THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL I SPAWNED A WARDEN ON ACCIDENT AND I WAS SCARED
thanks for the video (not the remix)
The warden doesn't give you the blindness effect, it will give you a new effect called 'darkness'. It's similar but darkness blocks more of your vision
Yes
Well that’s helpful :p
This is important because both are needed for the "how did we get here?" achievement.
Oh and also your vision pulses with the darkness
Also indispensable

the Warden really does add horror to the game... i was in CREATIVE mode and was trying to observe the warden's behavior and what spawned it etc, and I was so on edge even though I couldn't die... its creepy
I noticed that some of the sounds it makes are close to the flood from Halo.
A creature so horrifying even gods look upon it with terror
🎉❤
I recently noticed that the Warden hangs close to walls which makes sense because its blind
That is interesting

@@dr.dbanerjee1737 5, same as a creeper
few things missing: the hitbox of the warden shows that it can fit to 1 block wide areas unlike golems, and the subtitles for the 3 shrieks are : 1. "Warden approaches" 2. "Warden advances" and 3. "Warden draws close" so watch out for those.
I'm not deaf, but I always have subtitles ON.
I feel like it's some sort of my own pro move.
Yeah one squeezed into a room I was hiding in in Hardcore, luckily managed to sneak away before he fully caught my sent. A proper "aaaah fuck" moment.
I'd also suggest bringing some observers and bells (if you have the resources for it). When a bell is constantly activated by an observer clock, it makes a perfect distraction for the warden. Then you could sneak to it, dig it down as shown in the video, break the bell and retreat as fast as you can.
That sounds nice
Great idea!
Very useful
or just put 1 trapdoor between 2 sculk sensors
can you dig a 2x2 deep moat around the observers and bells in advance?
Theory: Sculk is something special it’s not just another dimension to be explored, it’s a creature of its own. The sculk only spreads when creatures or entities are killed near it, and it converts the blocks into sculk. Suggesting it feeds on the life force (Exp of other mobs). There is no doubt in my mind that it’s from another dimension however this substance is not just existing in the overworld. It is consuming the overworld, this dimension in essential slowly hunting and killing the overworld. It is a parasitic realm seeking to spread and ingulf our own, and like most living things it has a means to defend itself aka the Warden. The Warden is merely the sculks self-defense mechanism and a form of feeding itself. The souls in in its chest are the mobs the sculk consumes, reused into a type of energy that gives life to the warden. Now although this is all very scary there is one important thing to keep in mind. To the luck of the overworld these sculk growths appeared underground in caves places were there is very little to feed its growth. It would take a long period of time for sculk to spread to from a cave system to the surface. This does present players with the opportunity to find these sculk breaches and eliminate them. That is if they can bring down the warden first…. (Sorry about all the text I get really into this stuff o-0).
Ahree
that is some amazing lore
That's what fungus does, i.e Mushrooms, mushrooms use dead bodies to grow.
Cool theory. In addition to your theory, I would say the Pillagers started these cities long ago but after dealing in some black magic (perhaps stemming from red stone experiments), they released the ever-consuming Sculk via portal. Instead of fighting it off, they ran for their lives and let it grow into the Ancient City it is today.
It spreads via experience. The same experience that Steve uses to enchant, the same experience that mends our tools, the same magic thats in ores, coal, even food. Energy. The driving force of minecraft. Energy, maybe, but experience is gleaned in all places where energy or power is. I don't agree with the assessment that its a danger, but rather I believe that its adapted to its environment. Consider it's in game use of being solid energy storage that can be continually harvested for a fraction of the energy. It's a valuable resource, trying to defend itself. More evidence of the power of magic in minecraft's lore.
I decided to see the deep dark for myself in creative
Due to immortality induced overconfidence, I didn't give myself night vision to see how the area would look like in creative
I spawned in the warden, but it was just lumbering around the ancient city
So I decided to anger it.
And I cannot stress enough on how scary it is when it starts chasing you. The way it appears to walk with a sort of limp, but is still fast with it's head moving side to side. That alone is scarier than any horror movie I have or ever will watch in my entire life
I have a suggestion for you, for when you record the "raiding an ancient city" video. If you set your spawn point near the ancient city and store your valuable gear, drink a night vision potion and a speed potion, equip a hoe and maybe some totems, and then run around the ancient city like crazy, destroying any shriekers/sensors you trigger in the way: do you think the wardens will be able to reach you and kill you, before you free the city from all the shriekers? Because if you can destroy all shriekers before the warden kills you, you'll be able to freely explore the city after the wardens despawn, without having to bother with wool and sneaking. I don't know if it would work, though.
EDIT: I tried this in the snapshot, and it didnt work because the darkness effect messes things up a lot, and I couln't see where I was running into, and I ended up running into a warden and dying. What I did yesterday was, slowly and steady, with lots of potions of night vision, destroyed the shriekers and the sensors, to prevent the warden from spawning. And when it did spawn, I'd just ender pearl away and wait for a minute until it despawned. Took a long time, but I managed to clear a funn ancient city from all shriekers.
You probably won't even spawn a warden tbh. I ran around in the ancient city and it takes a decent amount to summon one.
@@brahtrumpwonbigly7309 most of the chests in the ancient city have multiple shriekers around them. You must've got lucky!
That's actually a great idea
It doesn't sound feasible because ancient city is larger than you imagined. Take you time, caz haste makes waste.
Just raided my first bastion like this today lol. Ran around with nothing but boats. Placed them everywhere. Died. Repeated that till I had most of the hostile mobs sitting then came back with my good armor and finished them off
Just defeated three yesterday, it's actually very very easy if you have more than one person; one person needs to be up on a pillar very high and away so that the ranged attack can't reach them, then they shoot the warden with a bow. Then, any other players can just run up and hit the warden with swords and the warden won't attack them because it is aggressive toward the bow player. Seems like they should adjust this so it realizes it can't hit the blow player and would then attack the sword players
this is actually a gamerule you can change in the advanced world options. There is a setting that will make mobs hostile to all players and not just the one that angered it, and you can also change a setting so that mobs do not lose hostility when the player dies.
For anyone raiding an ancient city with wool:
If you land on the edge of a wool block it will trigger any sculk sensors because the game thinks you landed on the adjacent block. All you have to do is sneak when landing on the edge of wool and it won't trigger any sensors. (You will see this if you try to climb a staircase of wool with sensors around)
u can see if ur conna fall on the wrong block with coords. just like standing on the edge of a magma block and taking no damage bc the game thinks ur on the air block next to it, not the magma block.
How to completely avoid the Warden:
1. Find a Sculk Shrieker.
2. Prepare a hoe.
3. Destroy Sculk Shrieker without alerting it.
4. No Warden!
Yeah 2 sculk sensor near each other with 3 sculk shriekers near 'em...guess i am lucky

Destroy without altering. That is not possible
@@Xx_D3V1L_xX use wool
I like how most people say "the warden" altough there are multiple wardens buried in the ground, just waiting to something to make noise
I'd say bring like a stack of wool or 3 to the ancient city. Placing wool near sensors and shreikers and then removing them will be a viable option to get rid of them. However if the warden gets summoned, I'd say run far from the warden, find a wall or dig down, and then cover yourself with wool. If you run away successfully, you should be safe for a while.
The problem with that is they're usually on skulk blocks, which trigger sensors when even wool is placed on them.
@@GIRGHGH I have tried it in survival myself and the sensor doesn't seem to detect wool placement at all.

I think the warden is perfect difficulty-wise. This opinion is coming from the seemingly rare person that likes stealth games. If it was easy to cheese/kill then it would take away the sense of danger it's supposed to portray. What do you think?
Definitely🙏🏻
I heartfully agree. Once you get full enchanted-netherite gear, there is no much challenge left on mob side. Of course as Eyecraft brillantly demonstrated it, MC is rich enough to provide means to turn things over. But if you go "by the book", this is a most interesting change in the gameplay.
It's not like it is so difficult or dangerous. The point is, you have literally no reason to cheese or kill him because he doesn't drop any valuable loot. So it is not as dangerous as it is pointless. If it had any good loot, then warden farms would become a pretty common thing very soon.

@@user-tb2jy3tu8f I'm more on the side for keeping the warden more pointless to kill and generally dangerous than full of great loot. While at the same time making the Deep Dark and Ancient Cities fun/rewarding to explore. I see what Mojang is trying to do and I'm on board.
I love the warden, it adds something new and interesting to the game and the lore, even if it does absolutely terrify me. I also like the theories about the warden being related to axolotls which are also blind and lives in caves, although the warden doesn't look much like a salamander.
I wonder though since it's blind why we get darkness and not blindness, and if it would still dig into the ground if somehow suspended in the air. (maybe it'd get scared lol like toph being uncomfortable if she's not on solid ground or made to wear shoes, since then she can't feel the vibrations through the ground to "see")
I have been doing some tests, and it is possible to defeat the Warden in a melee fight. Do note that it's more like a personal achievment, otherwise is better to just avoid the Warden, is not worth it:
1- Full netherite armor, enchanted with Protection IV.
2- Netherite Sword, enchanted with Sharpness V.
3- Potion of Turtle Master II (this is the most important part), potion of Strenght II and potion of Regen II or a gold apple (optional).
4- Totem of Undying, just in case (shields are useless against it).
The metod is quite simple: while the Warden is spawning, get close, drink the potions and attack relentlessly, do all the crits you can. Netherite equipment and Turtle Master allows you to tank the hits and survive, and Strenght II gives you enough damage to kill it quickly. Do not try to flee, you can't because of the TM potion and even if you do, the Warden's sonic blast bypass your armor, it must be a close and quick fight.
I like how he is just so calm even when he just got hit to a near death situation like, "Welp, he just sonically charged me, this is fine."
ancient city looks perfect for an underground base
Definitely
I find it quite sad that you can't make wardens spawn outside of the deep dark, because I kinda wanted to create a swarm of skulk on the surface to take over biomes since the warden can kill mobs. Without the warden, the skulk cannot really spread on its own.

You helped me with your video a lot, thanks 😊
Thank you for another wonderful video! Quite informative and helpful :)
I am playing 1.19 for a while now and the warden is very ez ... Just keep ender pearls in your hot bar and when the warden is summoned, throw an ender pearl and you're good. Then wait for the distinctive sound of the warden going back into the ground and that's that.
@Ethan Jordan Killing is literally impossible after all buffs that he got
@Ethan Jordan that got fixed, Wardens sonic boom now pierces through armor and shield
@Ethan Jordan you don't get anything from the warden, I don't think it even drops XP. (probably because mojang really wanted us to get the message that we're not meant to kill the warden) you get xp from mining sculk tho, when a mob dies near a sculk catalyst it spreads the sculk and absorbs the xp dropped by that mob. (I believe this was covered in Eyecraft's video about sculk)
You only get a measly 5 XP and a Sculk Catalyst. That's your precious "loot", you goblin.

I found this video incredibly helpful thank you. Note to self avoid the warden and anything that leads you close to him. 2 avoid the nether, there is lots of bad stuff in there too. 3. Avoid caves. 4. Sleep at night. 5. Don't spend long underwater. 6. Bees can be a real pain. Just stay in the daylight build a Hutt with bed and furnace and stay in there. I've never personally encountered to warden, but that's because I play on single player creative mode. However, the warden sounds terrifying honestly. Great video!

I think that the warden is more like obstacle to avoid and not to kill, and i think even mojang show us that by just dropping usless block when you kill it. Also this mob is very strong and will affect you with a darkness effect. OP haha

10:26 Attacking from directly above like this makes me think of dropping an anvil on it
Found that if your about id say 40-50 blocks above the warden(so like a little cave with an opening) you're able to safely snipe the warden to no punishment other than arrow wasting.
I always assumed the feature on his face was an eye socket that it obviously needs
👀
The only problem with the warden is in his dificulty, the way that he works if you make a noise there is basicly a low chance ro survive, you block with the shield, that means that the dificulty doenst reward good players, it is just hard, for everyone..
I've survived multiple encounters with he warden on hard difficulty. Just because you cant stand there and fight him in melee range doesn't mean you cant beat him or get away from him
No. If you attack it there is a low chance to survive. But if you just run away it’s pretty easy.
Just run away. It's not worth to fight.

They should add a feature where you can tame the warden and use it against other players
I need this
That would be straight up terrifying
@@Eyecraftmc Me too need that
Also u can do that my giving him sculk eyes
Yeah a mechanism to pacify warden would be great, otherwise it's simply a ruthless killing machine
Dude I can just imagine a very risky trap you get sculk sensors to set off the shriekers in ur base and spawn a warden. While you get into a safe room filled with wool you can just hide and let the warden take care of the intruders it’s not a full proof plan but it’s plausible and could extremely effective since it has a natural despawn… it could really fuck up someone’s day
I was terrified the first time I triggered a warden spawn. I died very quickly. Now when I encounter a deep dark area or ancient city, I look out for shreikers and sensors. Spotting a shreiker I will run to it and destroy it, but otherwise I just start destorying sensors. If I do trigger a shreiker while doing this and I can't get to destroy it without setting it off, then I'll back off and come back later at a different angle. If I do summon a warden I just run for it, I usually have enough time to escape while it pulls itself out of the ground.
This is a fun update so far! I found an ancient city generate with a mineshaft
Am I the only person who gets serious Stranger Things vibes from the Warden? Because they seriously seem like something you’d see in the Upside Down.

use catalysts i believe shriekers generated by catalysts also work the same as spawning shriekers
@@larno80 I can confirm that that does not not work. Sorry.
Love this video!
Warden's darkness effect is also unaffected by Night Vision and so using a night vision potion is useless.
You can't see as far, but it gets rid of the pulsing from the darkness, though you could disable that in settings I believe
Definitely not useless, saves the need for torches to see those camouflaged sensors. Placing torches make you more likely to alert him
You always make great and useful vedios
Have you made a video on the loadstone and respawn anchor?
Having the darkness effect makes it hard to see even if you have the night_vision effect on which helps a little bit.

Warden here I come
a tactic you could use for all you tnt lovers out their:
When in these cities and in a place where multiple shriekers are: tnt it with wool and well tnt
this can destroy most of the shriekers, and it does alert it by 1 stage so this tactic is risky but for patient players who can wait a whole 10 minutes and want to clear the city but not truly in a hurry (and like reversed fireworks): this is a decent 1
for people who want to just speed through: tnt like crazy and ender pearl when in a prediciment (or use elytra)
The warden is straight up my favorite minecraft mob ever. Even beats the enderman for me. xD It's fueled an obcession that has resulted in 7 warden OCs, a bunch of personal lore, lots of art, two ask blogs, and even a written story lmfao
My version of the warden is so different from the base material that I am tempted to just create a species out of what I came up with xD
warden looks so cute 😍
I have a question, feel free to answer if you know
Does the Warden spawn if Mob Spawning is off, but Warden Spawning in on? Or does disabling mob spawn disable the Warden?
By making a 2 - 2 blocks it seems kinda chessy just like how it used to be with building 3 blocks tall so I would say the warden should be able to jump higher about 6 - 7 blocks tall
We can also through a enter pearl to get away from the warden
I could totally see this as a test in a medieval school
The first time I went deep down to mine some diamonds I of course ran into an ancient city and as I was mining out the area I awoke a Warden. I had no idea this was even a thing and it killed me through a wall. Never even saw it, just got informed I was killed by a Warden on the kill screen.
Fun stuff. I guess I’ll just mine somewhere else. No way I can even compete with this Monster right now.
important info: warden can drop down 1 block size holes and kill you, and his charge shot goes through blocks too. and the shriekers *collectively* (all nearby shreikers function as one) can be set off *3* times before summing warden on the *4th* activation.. this guy is legit OP and broken, and slew me while digging down and blocking him off.

When strip-mining through my latest world (and i didn't play since 1.17 for that matter), i ran into this strange visual effect the skulk seemingly gives off (this strange blue-tealish glow all over the screen) and those muffling sounds. it scared me off so much that i simply reversed and dug into another direction. no, thanks :D. but seriously i spawned directly beneath an ancient city i think (ruling from the nearby mountain as well). as of yet i'm too scared going there.
i must say they got the scary factor of this new feature pretty right.
would you recommend taking off your best armor and equipment going there, aka does it make a difference having it on anyway? (minus elytra, hoe and pickaxe of course). i am so scared losing all my grinded gear to this threat.
Well you can always get it back after it despawns
