    For me, the biggest danger of creepers is that they can sneak up from behind you and blow up before you have time to react. This is why I'm really strict w/ my spacial awareness in hardcore. Make sure to keep the door to your house closed (iron door + buttons helps a bunch). Avoid walking around at night, and if you do, keep moving and watching your back. It's even good to keep this in mind during the day. Anything that keeps you facing in one direction (specifically crafting + dealing with other menus) should only be done in areas you know are secure.

    • @XAnderson27
      @XAnderson27 Před 2 měsíci +7

      true and thing is their walking is completely silent and make no noise until they pssst and explode. Even in subtitles it just says footsteps which could totally blend in with your own footsteps.

    Advice for the warden from someone who cleaned multiple ancient cities in hardcore:
    Build multiple nether portals in the ancient city, place them smart and use them as your way of escape. After teleporting away, the Warden immediately loses sight and will dissapear immediately after you return back... if you keep sneaking/making no noise ofc.

      My thought was to have a stack of ender pearls for emergency getaways if cornered. That and obviously place a bed and chest at the edge of the city to set your spawn, maybe wear disposable iron armour and keep a stack of wool on hot bar to pillar up 21 blocks

      Also, if the warden spawns then I think it's probably better to resist the urge to panic and sneak away first rather than run - they can't see you so as long as you sneak. And if you have space to move away from them far enough soon enough then they'll lose your scent.

    About the knockback enchantment: I highly recommend AGAINST getting it at level 2, and sometimes even level 1. It makes killing mobs in general a lot harder, since it launches them away, and you have to run after them to finish them off.
    About fire protection: in both java and bedrock, there is a sort of points system with the protection enchantments, and in each category, there is a maximum amount of points you can get. In bedrock, I believe you can max out all categories with max protection enchantments, but I'm not sure. In Java, however, this is not possible. If you get the max protection level on all armor, you'll be a little short on all specific categories, since protection gives fewer points, but in all categories. Here's the kicker: if you want to max out one category, you can do so by getting protection 4 on 3 pieces, then the specific resistance on the last piece; i.e., if you want maximum fire protection, get protection 4 on 3 armor pieces, and fire protection 4 on the last one. Getting fire protection 4 on all armor pieces doesn't give any extra advantage, and simply leaves you open to other forms of attack, like projectiles and explosions.
    About endermen: Fire aspect is a no-go. They have a chance at teleporting every time they take fire damage, which makes them teleport around more, prolonging your fight. As long as the enderman is mad at you, you are vulnerable, so you want to kill it as quickly as possible. In fact, fire aspect in general is really only useful for getting cooked food when killing animals. Some mobs on fire can in turn set you on fire, and while the extra damage to them isn't very useful, the extra damage to you is dangerous. Ph1lza learned this lesson when he lost his 5 year hardcore world, and this fire aspect psa is brought to you by him.

      I don't get why people don't like the knockback enchantment, it makes extremely deadly mobs like creepers and wither skeletons 60% less effective than what they would have been and the argument of knockback pushing them away too far is dumb because you obviously wouldn't use it on a skeleton to give them an advantage, not to mention if you have knockback enchantments, chances are you're far enough in the game to have a bow in your inventory anyway.

    • @autumn4442
      @autumn4442 Před 3 měsíci

      @@kornknot2726 I don't use a bow too often, but when I do, I use it to kill creepers. If a mob is dangerous due to melee, you use a bow, not knockback. Knockback requires you get in their danger zone, often more than once, to actually kill them. But for mobs too weak to really have a danger zone, like zombies, it makes killing them a lot more inconvenient.

    • @khw1425
      @khw1425 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @kornknot2726 I enjoy knockback but it's never the first enchantment I want out of a sword. Going in fast and knocking mobs around is always fun even if it isn't always the smartest. Also a lot of fun to use near cliffs or as part of defenses near your base. Knockback sword with bow is very satisfying and allows very fluid crowd control, or is nice when teamed up with a friend with a bow. It's very situational and for me more for fun, but since mine craft is a game that's fine. I do think they are superior for creeper slaying than regular swords...and not having to use arrows is nice if you don't have a mob farm or skeleton spawner...I think the real anti-creeper sleeper is the water bucket/lava bucket. Either push them away or burn them from around a corner, no arrows or enchanting needed...or just flint an steal them.

    Most of my deaths come from making a mistake and falling, or just suddenly getting overpowered by a bunch of mobs. As someone who has played bedrock edition a lot I'd like to bring up a few things that may be helpful. 1. He is right, the boat will not kill you in Java as long as your in the boat and stuff, but for us on bedrock. Here's what you have to do, GET out of the boat just before you hit the ground. It's like in mario where you sacrifice yoshi to clutch a jump back up from the cliff before you go offscreen and die. 2. That actually makes a lot of sense! I do the same thing in bedrock edition with my elytra and by SLOWING DOWN and circling around your destination until you land. :) 3. Now here's an important one. Please check out his most recent video about netherite. That video has my comment in it about what I said about netherite mining. If I'm not mistaken I believe it's there. I talked about "fire protection" like he says in this video, you don't have to enchant your whole armor set with that. Just enchant the boots with fire protection, the protection may not be as effective against lava, but the cool thing is that as soon as you build up out of the lava, and land, you can count the burning 🔥, after a few burns... THE FIRE GOES OUT. compared to anything else you can use. I highly recommend having a spare boot pair with this enchantment, so that way, whenever you explore the nether it will be pretty dang hard to die. IVE TRIED IT. 4. Also other ways to avoid lava and fall damage, like when you mine for example, make sure your always sneaking. You definitely do not want to dig DIRECTLY ABOVE YOU, or DIRECTLY BELOW YOU, at any time you have a very small chance of falling into trouble. And what I'm also building a habit for is mining a staircase down to the mine, this is much safer and my habit is staying 1 block backward always while mining a block its a cycling system mine>testfor lava or a hole>then walk 1 step forward, this will save you from from falling, if you end up encountering it from the blocks you mined, which is away from you. But if you are like rushing, just stand right between 2 blocks, and then dig straight down in a 1x2 area. Remember to always sneak. However this is a disadvantage for survival multi-player because if you leave the hole open, in a great area to move around in, especially in an area where theres hills, someone could fall in. So if you do this, be sure you fill in the hole before you continue mining down. I hope that was helpful. Also amazing tips Eyecraft. I actually learned a few things from this. Your content is very helpful and fun to watch. Thank you. :)

    I mean yeah this entire video is effectively the epitome of “don’t have a skill issue” but honestly that warden trick of literally putting it in the time out hole is hilarious and I’ll definitely be trying that if I have a fast enough tool.
    Also, I believe the pillaring up strategy against hoglins is a new thing with the mob reach changes? I could have sworn they had the reach to hit 3 blocks above itself, as I always needed to pillar up 4 blocks and use a trapdoor to put myself into crawling mode.
    I think some of the tips here too are a bit too dated or specific to be used by most players, and some deaths I feel are much more common in regards to myself and those I hang out with were not shown, such as piglin brutes inside of bastions and poison from witches and cave spiders.
    Some disclaimers such as Knockback being incredibly detrimental for fighting ranged mobs such as skeletons and blazes along with possibly making it hard or impossible to retrieve their loot, and that basic Protection enchants also reduce fire and lava damage, and that maybe a full set of fire protection is overkill

    Eyecraft, love the guides as always but i thought i should point something out (also a video idea?)
    11:52 This has bugged me for a while when i see people do it, but stats like fire protection are unnecessary to have on more than 2 pieces of armor. I watched a video once that explained pretty well how the different enchantments worked, and it explained the different types of damage a player can take (that enchantments can lower). That being standard damage (like a zombie hitting you) projectiles, fire, and explosive. A player is only able to have 5 protection "bars" against each of these types of damage, with each type of enchantment giving a bar for its power. So projectile protection 3 would give 3 bars of protection against projectiles. This is all true except for normal protection, which gives 1 to each bar at max level, and partials for each other.
    This means that full prot 4 armor would give all protection types 4 bars. This means that if you want to get max fire resistance while still having good on other damage reductions you should have 3 prot 4 and 1 fire prot 4. However I still recommend having all protection 4 on your armor as the damage difference is very little and it helps you reduce every other type of damage as well.

    • @Wintermute4
      @Wintermute4 Před 2 měsíci

      Great to see someone bringing this up! The one situation where two pieces of specialized protection gear (fire, blast, etc.) is useful is when using Elytra. The only way to get maximum protection for a specific type in that case is to wear one armor with protection 4, and the other two pieces with the same specialized protection (also at rank 4).

    Also anytime you are in areas where creepers can spawn, constantly turning around and looking above and behind you, and not staying in one place, and staying away from places where they can surprise you from around a corner takes away their ability to sneak up on you, and they're very slow, so if you see them first, they're closer to harmless, but still sort of dangerous, but if you know what to do when you see them, so still be careful. Also I recommend enchanting your shield with unbreaking 3 and mending. Then you can always have it ready as long as you keep defeating mobs to repair it with exp.

  • @Loctorak
    @Loctorak Před 5 měsíci +2

    Pro tip: that rhythm of balancing blocking and hitting mentioned at 7:35 can be used in more or less the same way to avoid being withered by wither skeletons in the nether. If you let them approach with your shield up in one hand and sword in the other, wait until you hear the *thunk* of your shield blocking a hit and then as immediately as you can, slash with the sword. If you do it right, you won't get withered and you'll damage the skeleton as well as knock it back far enough to begin the cycle again.
    In fact, if you can truly master this technique, it can be utilised to avoid being damaged by almost all of the attacks mobs can make against you. Like.. ever...
    The exceptions being creeper blasts, enemies with axes, boss type mobs like the warden's special attack and I think perhaps evokers as well? But for literally everything else mobs can do to you, a well timed block/attack rhythm can protect you from 100% of arrows, zombie hits, tridents, hoglin bites... you name it, you're basically invulnerable to it. So much so that the shield is one of the first items i build when i get iron, and from there i more or less make sure i never go anywhere or do anything away from base without carrying a shield in my off hand. It's saved my life more times than i can fathom.

The stare at endermen trick is cool (didnt know about that), but it would have been nice to get more tips about protecting against creepers when they are creeping. A few more that deserve a mention imo:
    -Piglin Brute:
    Bastions have very little space to fight and there's lots of brutes, very easy to get stuck in a corner and die
    -End Void:
    Your ender pearl hits the side of an island and you fall to your death
    -Elytra in tight space:
    You aren't wearing your chestplate and get killed by mobs, usually on long-term hardcore worlds like Ph1lza in the cave and Jon and Dan to raid farm vexes
    -Iron Golem:
    You either build your 3-tall tower near a hill that they then climb to hit you, or you try mining a block but accidentally hit them and either die in 1 hit or can't escape

    Probably my most common deaths are careless use of elytra in my base (not a big deal) and burning up in the nether. I had a really bad death in the Nether once and now I always carry 3 fire res potions on exploration/mining expeditions

  • @kiyopawn
    @kiyopawn Před 4 měsíci

    My most common cause of deaths in my hardcore runs.
    The nether as a whole pretty much.
    -You cannot bucket clutch due to things vaporizing, if falling on high height to solid, prepare haybales, it reduces 80% of fall damage. Or you could get POWDERED snow which is harder to get, as a substitute to a water bucket. Java boats can negate fall damage when moving, but I'm assuming you fell off by accident and did not ride on the boat on the way down.
    -Pigmen can screw you over really well. Say you accidentally anger one, and you hide in a wall with a 1 block opening, the babies can still kill you. I carry like nether fences as babies can't jump over that.
    -Enderman on the end. Never attack them unless under a platform under 2 blocks, and some fences. The fences are for pigmen in case one walks by.
    DO NOT dig a whole in the wall when attacking endermen, as you won't be able to tell if a pigmen is passing by, and the whole pigmen problem could happen. DO NOT try to trap them in boats, you might miss and just die.
    -Everywhere you go, to every landmark you go to. Make a cobblestone bridge, 1 block above you, 2 on the side (bottom side), and 1 underneath. This is anti-magma cube, anti-ghast, anti-wither skellys, but not baby pigmen. So as soon as you hit a pigman, barricade yourself and place holes nearby where the babies can fall into. Have some cobble on the (top side) to block from blaze fireballs or ghast fireballs.
    -Always bring fire-res (which you can get from piglin trading), OR have a golden apple. BOTH can give you fire res when you fall in lava. If you have a fireres splash potion and you're in lava, THROW UP and it'll land back on you.
    -Most people know that gold armor protects you from piglin aggro. But people forget the other things that aggro them, opening or breaking any container chest/barrel/shulkerbox/etc. Mining Gold. But the biggest thing, is with Piglin Brutes.... Honestly, just run, don't fight them when they'e already aggro'd on you. Run until a safe distance, pillar up, build a bridge until you're over them, and then throw lava onto them so the other piglins don't aggro you. If you can pillar up (up to 4 blocks minimum) WHILE they're aggroing you already, it's riskier that way but less time consuming.

    for wardens i find it's best to just sneak away, running or flying is far more dangerous and makes it take longer for the warden to despawn

    with aqua affinity on your helmet and a high efficiency pickaxe you can dig yourself an air pocket under water. great way to mine in underwater caves or ravines.

    what kills me the most is blazes. they just end up getting behind me without me realizing. so I will literally go overkill, disable the spawner, and then make a trap with pistons to funnel them down into a 2x2 area so i can kill them without them ever seeing me.

    The deadliest bit about Creepers is that they make no noise, so they have a tendency to sneak up on you while you're caving. And you only have 0.5 seconds to react in that scenario.
    Which means the best defense is always just armor. Blast IV set when I'm caving because let's be honest, the only thing dangerous enough to worry about in caves are creepers.
    Seperate sets for The Nether, Monument Raids, and Deep Dark Raids. In fact, unless you're trying to be as tesource efficient as possible, the only reason you'd need base Prot IV is for Pillager Raids.
