The fact that the water piston is a sticky piston by default is sort of correct as water ( or any fluid in general ) are sticky ( for how much is depend on fluid type )

You should make all blocks conductive like redstone powder so the signal travels through 15 of them instead of 1. That would make the piston blocks more interesting

Hmm… what if you made water and lava behave like redstone blocks, but they still retain their original properties? This means that lava powered redstone circuitry could work, save for the fire hazard. On that note, could you also try making redstone dust set everything around it on fire like lava?
