2018 Polaris RZR Turbo S Review and Test Drive - Extreme UTV EP39

- On this episode of Extreme UTV we are heading to Vegas to test drive the brand new Polaris RZR Turbo S. DISCLAIMER: This is our opinion and ours alone. Polaris did not pay for us to do this review. We were pumped when we got the invite to test drive the new Polaris RZR XP Turbo S. This is not just a standard turbo RZR with a long travel kit, the entire RZR has been redesigned from the ground up to handle long travel suspension and massive 32" Tires. Some of the biggest changed are a better looking cage although it is still made out of the thin material of the original cages. 4 point harnesses are stock on these, but you will need to purchase some seat pass thrus as they are pretty much useless without them. All of the suspension is built stronger and wider. This beast of a RZR is 72" wide and features the most travel on the market according to the Polaris Engineers. The massive RS1 diff is used in the front. We were surprised to see that the engine stayed basically the same with some mild tuning and clutching to handle the larger tires. Come on Polaris in the horsepower war all you had to do was add a few horsepower and you could have bragging rights. All in all we pushed this machine to new limits and the dynamix suspension took everything we threw at it. It was faster than my fully built KOH UTV. The 72" width does take some time to get used to but is well worth it for the dunes or the desert. Probably not the best for East coast woods racing and hill killing like we do. We were so impressed with the Dynamix active suspension that a regular turbo with that option will be our next purchase. Let us know what you think of this brand new machine in the comments.

Sounds like Polaris has been listening to their customers, They have addressed a laundry list of complaints over the years, and now they have a much better product. Thats Awesome to hear

Awesome video man!! Such a cool vehicle, and you seemed to get a bunch of cool shots for how little time you had their to set anything up! That vehicle looks frickin gnarly, those trails are not a Sunday cruise and they all seemed to hold up great!
Yeah, we had no idea what to expect going to one of these dealer release rides, we will be better prepared and get more shots next time.

An improved machine no doubt. Should be for the $. Every survey I've ever filled out for them I asked for a couple inches more legroom. No such luck.
Maybe in the next model upgrade but they seem to love the 90 inch wheelbase.

I favor foot-clutch, paddle shift, geared transmissions so I love the YXZ (and Pioneer 500 for utility). However Polaris has brought a new offroad sport to the masses and they obviously know what they're doing - especially with this machine. There's no way I would throw 32" tires on my YXZ without having to make significant changes to the entire driveline. All of these sport UTV's just keep getting better and Polaris pushes the industry. X3 or YXZ, Polaris has forced the market to adapt and continue to lead with some incredible tech. This is hands down my favorite RZR on paper, I'm sure it's a thrill to drive.
It was a blast to drive. Competition is heated between Polaris and Can Am and that is good for us as they continue to push the envelope.

I just bought a 2021 turbo s, so far its amazing. Something I see as a problem is the fuel tank. In about 3 hours I burn almost 5 gallons of fuel on the dunes. Thats generally not a big issue since I can swing by the pickup and gas up at lunch time. In a couple months I will be doing huge desert trail systems where one riding area can be 140 miles of trails. Its a lot slower and easier on the throttle than the dunes... but is it going to increase 20mpg in the different terrain? I'll need to reach out to some of the sxs club guys to see how they deal with fuel management.

from your experience about quality, which one you prefere? CAN AM OR POLARIS?

I know this is from 2 years ago, and I really like the Turbo S, but did anyone else see the Huge dent/bend at 12:37? Looks almost like the axle smashed into the frame?

I would put 30s on this sxs to use all that extra beef. And use wheel spacers to widen it. And get a lower gearing ration out of it.

There wasn't much opportunity to get out and get shots so Gopro shots and our review is all we could get. We didn't have much time with these.
This machine is so great it's so much better and improved from last year and we were charging you 20 plus thousand dollars for Junk last year now we want more money cuz this is much better

This new term "usable travel" which is nothing but a marketing gimmick coined by Polaris is a huge crock of $#!+ if you measure from the bottom of the skid plate to the bottom of the tire that means the measurement is bias with different tire sizes on different machines. Also, just because there is a half inch between the skid plate and the ground with the suspension bottomed out does not mean the frame won't hit, tires can easily squat half an inch in aggressive riding that would cause the suspension to bottom out in the first place. That being said this is a very capable machine and I'm excited to drive it, however, I really sounds like Polaris is scraping hard for selling points.
I think they were just jumping on the fact that X3s are bad about bottoming out on the frame from factory.

This is a completely different machine with most everything beefed up to handle 32s. I think they have the fire issues worked out, yet people keep beating that dead horse.

Too bad the heat exchanger leaks all the coolant into/thru the engine, then it over heats and blows the engine sky high. BUY A CAN AM. The RZR's are trash.
