- This time on Busted Knuckle Ride and Review we are doing something a little different. We have our hands on a 2022 Polaris RZR Pro R and a 2022 Polaris RZR Turbo R and we are going to see if the Pro R is that much better. Now the Base Model Pro R is around $7000 more than a Turbo R. So we want to run these around the track and do some riding and see if it is worth the extra money. There are a few key differences between the two. The Turbo R has the same Turbo 929cc 181hp engine as the Pro XP. It is the new 5 lug hubs, brakes, and suspension as the Pro R but with a shorter more nimble wheelbase. The Turbo R only has a AWD, 2wd front diff and a few more distinct differences. Stay tuned as we hot lap the track and go head to head for time with our good friend and Polaris RZR sponsored racer Michael Lee from UTV Rehab. Loser buys Lunch!

Turbo R Sport owner here! I have a few seat hours in a 2022 Pro R ultimate and now just purchased a 2022 Turbo R sport, I gotta say, I thought I would be disappointed with the turbo r having driven a pro r, but the turbo R has more than impressed me, more power than I’ll ever need for my use. I guess we’ll see how it holds up, so far so good.
The turbo R is great it just doesn’t have the same potential as the Pro R
Great video Matt, both are great machines, I'm an N/A person myself driven turbos of all types , some are good ,some are not, I'd spend the extra $7000 on the Pro R , the longer wheelbase and better throttle response/control is a big plus and a lesser chance of overheating on those long riding days, I got buddies who drink Polaris Kool Aid and the Can Am Kool Aid, they are both decent machines, they both have great after market support, so the balls in the buyers court, when you say $7000 difference 95% of buyers finance these machines over several years and it is not allot of money/month spread out over this time some places are doing 9 yrs financing , so get the Pro R, its like saying i want that new truck, that $75/month is too much, just do it, the heck with having regrets, you only live once , Matt/BKF still kicking ass 👍
Good point.
You're right was set on the turbo r But cant help but think the big Hp difference
75 your lucky to get your payments under 400 with these things.
I’m in the market for a SXS what dou recommend I want sowmthing that can do it all but for now just shits n giggles I want that power not gonna make the same mistake with my 600 VS 1000 Suzuki lol thanks 🙏🏼
I'm a turbo kind of person over N/A honestly. I don't mind the "shortcomings" behind a turbo'd engine. That turbo shove is half the fun. Although it's hard to ignore the other pros you get with the Pro R.
A turbo kit on the Pro R would be rowdy and fun
Great video. I'm in Northern Az and have a 2019 XP 1000 and absolutely love it. I know it only has 110 HP but I can rip through small rock gardens and rock crawl with the best of them and she's a badass on fire roads.
Right on!
Not apples to apples comparison. One has dynamix. It obviously going to handle better. The na machines are great if you run low elevation all the time. The pro R at 6-8k loses a lot of hp, and it heavier. They aren't nearly as impressive up in the mountains. So just something to think about if you live up higher or go to the dunes.
We did the best we could. When this video was shot they were both still hard to get
I love modern sxs but the prices are ridiculous. I can not justify it lol but whatever floats your boat . Good show Matt.
they have come a long way from the 800S and the price reflects that. The Pro R handles like a 100k trophy truck.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo I agree they have and your right there badass but to me ...not worth there sticker price
@@rockkhound943 to each their own I guess
As an owner of the Turbo S previously, and now the Turbo R 4 Ultimate, I have to agree. Not going to lie, after the machine + tax + financing + chosen warranties, our Ultimate came out to $60k! That’s more than we’ve ever spent on any vehicle we’ve owned! So yes, they are retarded’ly overpriced. If we didn’t get any warranties or anything, and APR wasn’t during COVID, it would have came out to low $50k’s.
The thing though is once you get the opportunity to drive one of these hard and fast, you then realize why they’re expensive! They are so insanely good at what they do it’s just insane! Non-turbo SXS’s can’t compete. Older SXS suspension can’t compete. They’re literally very close to being Pre-Runners right from the factory, they’re that good! If I’ve never ridden or driven in them, I would substantially question their price, but since I have driven and ridden in them a lot, I don’t question their price as much. They should be cheaper I agree. Like $40k would be sufficient. But damn they’re good!!!
Matt you’re late braking before the jump 10 feet later, loading and then unloading the suspension over the jump. Nice technique mang. I want a pro R now.great video thanks
They messed the jump up when they groomed the track. Every time I hit it it wanted to send the back end up.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo
Matt when you brake that late and you release the brake with the wheels on the up slope it is going to release that energy built up in the springs. Kinda a like motocross rider do to make a large triple jump. Watch the vid again and compare your technique to your friends and you’ll see the difference. I’ll shut up now 😊😉
@@danoiddano6891 yeah I normally just hammer right into it and send it but they just have shortened up the face so it was throwing me funky making me have to hit the brakes. I wasn’t trying to jump far just get the fastest time.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo
Well you achieved it baby. There’s definitely a ton of variables to deal with when settling up a chassie and also driving the same chassis. That’s why we like to go fast I guess 😁
Awesome! Been toying around with the idea of a turbo r. Think I’d spend way more time in the mountains if I snagged one.
They are worth it for sure
And the version for pirates is called "Pro Arrrrrrrrrrrrh!"... 😂😁😜
Pro and Turbo RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Was looking for video that compared these two and this came up first. Quickly realized that this was sponsored, or the Polaris guy you borrowed from said don't talk crap on the Pro R. These two trims of machines cannot ever be compared at a only $7,000 price difference, this difference is a couple thousand more min. I need to find a true $7,000 difference comparison. Turbo R Ultimate vs Pro R Ultimate that what we need.
No one said don't talk crap on anything. We are not sponsored or paid by Polaris or any UTV manufacturer. This is strictly our honest opinion on which machine is better and why. We were just excited to be able to compare the two machines even if their trim level was not the same.
Did you notice either one clunking or making any major unwanted suspension noises? My deposit is on a Turbo R premium, picking up next week! Selling x3 xds rr!!!!
Not really. They are both good machines seems like.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo cool thanks Matt, great video. Fun to watch for sure!
@@montanamountainutv thanks for watching
How do you like the razr Turbo R compared to the X3?
Good afternoon from Southeast South Dakota
Hey Slim! Good afternoon from Denver, CO.
Great video. If you were to build a RZR rock crawler today for east coast riding, would you recommend the Pro R, Turbo R, or the tried and proven Turbo S ? And 2 or 4 seater?
Hard to beat a 4 seat turbo S. I think that might be my next build or something with AC lol
At this point in time, fuel usage comes in to play more than ever. I understand that the four-cylinder engine uses a lot more of it. Something to consider
smiles per gallon
Not a fair comparison as not the same suspension, Dinamix makes all the difference
dynamix makes a difference for sure. We compared what we had on hand.
I'd like to see before/after bolt on/slip on mods on both then strapped to the Dyno
It would be hard for the Turbo R to keep up with the Pro with some mods.
That Polaris 4 pots engine found a good home!
I like the 4 cylinder
Polaris, lo mejor de lo mejor. LA MARCAAA
I have had good luck out of them. Although I’ve never driven an X3 but I’d like to for comparison.
Sorry but 2-3 seconds out of 106? Either the Pro R wasn't getting a driver or the track evened the 2 machines lol. Or better yet theres very little difference but one makes the driver "feel" enhanced. Just really surprised by only getting a few seconds.
That all adds up when you are doing multiple laps
I’m sorry but you cannot compare a computer controlled shock system 100 inputs per second Independently controlled vs a valve controlled system that’s not even the same handling by any stretch of the imagination.
We compared what we have. This was just an idea of whether or not the Pro R is worth the extra money
Completely agree all the difference lays on suspension
No that really doesn’t make that much of a time difference on a track at all.
I’m definitely voting for the ProR the more options on the Fwd are awesome
But is it worth $7k more?
@@BustedKnuckleVideo No! Lol if I’m spending that much I’m going with a loaded Can-Am the A arms are stronger they went with a Angle iron style vs the tube style that suck , with the “A” style you can cut and repair way easier than a tube
They have been doing very well in the racing scene. Maybe I can get one to do a test drive and review of eventually so we can have a good comparison.
For in the $40,000’s the pro r’s can’t even come with bead-locks, high clearance trailing arms, or did they beef up the tie rods or obviously the ball joints from so many breaking.I bought my 21 turbo s dynamix for $26,000 for the unit, which was pretty much the most expensive machine you could get at the time, now the pro r cost in the $40,000’s. Don’t know how people justify the cost of the machine when the motor is almost the same as a slingshot and they don’t cost $40,000 lol
Drive one and then get back to me. The Pro R is a beast.
awesome!!
This was a fun one.
7 grand difference keep 5 grand in your pocket, stick 2 grand in the turbo and it will kick that pros ass in all fields, that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it!
I don’t know about all that.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo well it did not beat it out by much, give the turbo a bigger tire,do some turbo work on it and that turbo be a bad machine!
@@Frankie--da-fixer yeah do all that and a Pro R with a tune would still beat it. 😬
@@Frankie--da-fixer that’s like saying a base model ram with extra power would beat a TRX. There’s more to the pro r than just a bigger engine.
Yes well ppl that can afford 7 grand go for it,but ppl like me that can't afford the base turbo, would be glad to have either, regardless though they both badass!
@Busted Knuckle Films between the pro r and turbo r does one seem any quieter in the cab/cabin than the other and does either one put off more heat in the cab/cabin than the other? Great video
I would say the Turbo R is probably quieter, I imagine heat is close to the same.
Surprised the Turbo R didn’t come with arched radius rods.
Everyone buys aftermarket soon after purchasing the machine.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo I feel far less “trail riders” do when they’re already arched from the factory. The Pro R’s are arched & from memory the Pro xp’s are also I believe.
Must be a Turbo R sport thing… My Turbo R4 premium ride command unit has same arched radius arms as Pro R.
Love the new control arms on both.
they seem much stronger
The scsep blog guys love this track too.
They’ve been to stony before?
Ball joint failures?
Nope
@@BustedKnuckleVideo yet....
1200 miles on my Turbo R 4 Ultimate. Just got back from Moab. It is a great machine. I put a Bikeman tune on it, it really flies! The Pro R is not in my future.
It all depends on what you want to do with it. The Turbo R is a good machine as well especially if you are going 4 seater.
Which one do you prefer to hill Kill and rock crawl?
It is hard to beat the Turbo R for that.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo thank you!
You think it screams now wait until you put an exhaust on it.
They sound good with exhaust.
Have they opened up any race classes for the pro r yet?
Lots of
Can't get past the egg on wheels looks with a mouth breathing front end. Great video as usual. The canned ham is looking better and better at this point.
The can am isn’t even in the same ball park as the pro R
@@BustedKnuckleVideo sxs blog ran the 2 stock against each other. There wasn't an enough difference in performance to justify the price or them ugly looks. Lol.
@@DirtRoadBoyz2 can am and pro R?
The 225 horse and the 200 horse versions of each. The pro being naturally aspirated is cool, but to get even more you're talking another 5 to 7 grand for a turbo. The packaging on the polaris isn't exactly what I would call a master piece either. Canam is coming with another machine in the future. If polaris can't so something about the terrible looks of this thing I'm getting the canned ham next. Or the unicorn Robby Gordon Bandit sxs.
@@DirtRoadBoyz2 I don’t think the can am can hang suspension wise with the ProR.
What's with the horrible suspension geometry... The front wheels have positive camber when cornering and under power.
seemed to drive pretty dang good
🏆🏆🏆👍🇺🇲🙏
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching.
How hot do you think it is there so I know it’s hot as I know it’s hot I’ve been there before a lot of times
It is pretty dang hot this time of year in Alabama
Was at a Polaris experience day today and included hot laps with race drivers, went in a Turbo R modified race car vs a stock 23 Pro R, the Pro R was as fast or faster but still had the stereo 😂 pro r is absolutely ridiculous
agreed, it is on another level
is there variant with sit after another, not from the side?
Huh?
I’m kinda stuck between a pro xp with long travel vs turbo R
Turbo R is going to be superior since everything is dialed in for the long travel.
That’s honestly the same conclusion I’m coming to too. Because it should have better knuckles and bearings carriers and the shocks are setup for the long travel as everything else too
exactly
And it is not just the long travel you get with the Turbo R. The gearing is lower, no need to install lower gearing. You can put 35's on it right from the factory. The Turbo R also has a bigger radiator, better brakes and bearings, more robust steering components, 32" tires from the factory, better water pump, etc. I owned a Pro XP 4 Ultimate before the Turbo R, and I will not go back. The Turbo R is that much better.
@@rodneysessions7463 I've never owned a utv before...driven an xp 1000 before and thought it was good. But your review makes me want to spend 30k for the Turbo R lol. I just don't know if I'll use it but build quality is nice too.
Seems silly to compare a dynamix pro r to a non dynamix turbo r.... I know you clarified that in the video, but its night and day difference between dynamix and non dynamix.... Ever need to borrow a tuned dynamix turbo r vs a tuned dynamix pro r and I can help. Turbo r on e85 and dynamix will destroy any pro r without a turbo kit all day, every day, on any track or surface....
Ha, No way a built Turbo R and built Pro R would be on the same playing field
just stopped in to see if the pro r made it thru the review without breaking down or breaking a front shock
I have been beating on the Pro R for 3 months with zero issues
Hes sponsored by Polaris he cant say absolutely anythjng he wants about them
Actually I can. I have never been paid a dime or given a machine or even a discount on a machine from Polaris.
Is the water truck broke?
They don’t have one and we weren’t trying to get muddy.
Of course not lol How could it be ?!?
Seeing how it is basically a trophy truck...
I'm getting a pro r
good call
👍
👊
the only good footage was when you werent holding the camera
Want to come help next time?
Im not understanding Pro R bias in this video.
I think it is the better machine, just depends on if it is worth the extra money to you.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo right but you made it seem like it was loads better when the reality is, you compared a Pro R with Dynamox DV with a Tuebo R base and only manages to beat it on your last attempt. So it’s either not as good as you’re trying to convince your audience it is, or Dynamix DV is not as good as literally every other review says it is. And if it’s the 2nd that’s true, then so is the first.
Dynamix is cool and we took that into account but still the Pro R is on another level especially with the power it can make. They don't feel like the same machine at all.
Rock crawling with that vehicle is an ass move
I need a machine that can do it all.
I wanna hear the machines not annoying music.
WTF. So many videos ruined.
you can hear the machines just fine....do you complain during movies too?
Curious on the difference in fuel consumption
I would assume that the Pro R burns more, the engine is twice the size
I was told by a Dealer today the pro is twice as thirsty...
Basic turbo against the top pro R 😑
It's just dynamix and all we could get at the time to do the comparison
Audio muted at @13:20 Matt.
Dang it. We have been having glitches lately
@@BustedKnuckleVideo meh it was only 20 seconds. 👍 no biggie. Just thought id let ya know.
@@A1UTV Atleast it wasn’t when I was talking this time. 🙃
Hell to the no
cheap for basically a mini trophy truck
Get a dynamix turbo r and redo
Easier said than done. They are hard to find.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo not really. one sitting in my garage. one sitting at local dealer showroom.
I doubt the local dealer would let me borrow one for the video... Want to bring yours out for me to test? 😬
Blah, blah, blah. Tell us something we have not heard! Other than PRO R is great and Turbo R sucks! Guess that guy screwed the pooch when he got a Turbo R.
He is a racer and there is no class for the Pro R. That is why he got the Turbo R.
Funny you think you’re buying gold when you buy it it’s all plastic toy then after two years you really find out what a pile of garbage it is when it’s worthless
I have had a lot of these and don't feel that way at all
And still running on a rubber band 👎
That rubber band takes a lot of abuse.
