We have one of the best fitting soundtracks for the October season here on the 8BS Revamp, prepare for Bram Stoker's Dracula! As we have another fantastic Jeroen Tel soundtrack, and one of his greatest efforts atmosphere wise, truly utilized the NES soundchip to create some of the most haunting tracks on the system. The game is typical Probe Software developed fair, gameplay is not too rough and the graphics compliment the Dracula theme very well, as usual Probe was under a strict deadline to complete these games so the game design took a hit in terms of either being really hard or uneven. But Jeroen Tel was never deterred with these deadlines as he'd been able to write songs or conversions in a very fast manner, and still produce high quality!
With the exception of the few usual "good feel Tel tracks" ("Van Helsing Rescued" and "Ending" in particular), all of the music has that intense dark and moody vibe, perfect for the Halloween season and complimentary to the theme of Dracula. Those that know the nitty gritty about this game, are aware that the first song of this soundtrack, is Unused, however it is only in the US/NTSC version, as the song does play in the PAL version. Due to a programming flaw for the NTSC version, the game can't reinit the music index in time of the title screen showing up and the music request is ignored, basically the game loads too fast for it to play the song properly, an unfortunate victim of PAL to NTSC programming for this game. And of course using his own sound driver he created, the "Probe Software Nintendo Famicom Music-Driver", Tel produced one of the most underrated soundtracks the NES has ever seen. And compliments are still given to Probe Software for creating a decent game atmosphere wise to the Dracula name on the NES, and of course Jeroen Tel deserves all his recognition and praise he has done for his work on the NES, while short, it's a great legacy he left for one of the last NES game soundtracks he did that got released in North America!

Such a futuristic soundtrack for a Horror based video game.

another Jeroen Tel great! I was first exposed to his work with Overlord for the C64! I've been hooked ever since.

Jeroen Tel did the NES version, and Matt Furniss did the Genesis/Mega Drive version. Both soundtracks are nuts. I guess Sony wanted to make sure Vampire Slaying Videogames had great music whether they or Konami are in charge!

One of the best ost for NES. This music contain a very deep atmosphere of ancientness and sense of inavitable evil events, that awaits you in your journey. You better be well prepared.
I haven't played this game since 1997. After trying a week ago, i reailised, how hard it is 🥲
P.S. James Rolfe was very-very wrong, when he said, that this music is an 8-bit chaos 🤨

I mean he was KINDA right. Or at the very least it's very easy to see what he was talking about or why he'd say that.

@@VacuumFridge In fairness, the tune he played, "nighttime scenes 2 & 7," really doesn't sound that great in the recording he played. Niko also does update the music so they sound better than the originals.
