  • IL-2 Great Battles | Junkers JU87 Stuka | Bridge Dive Bombing Attack!
We take time out to have another look at IL-2 Great Battles. Following the career in RAF No.3 Sq ending I have received many suggestions. I plan to do several one-off missions in different aircraft and then put which we should start a career with to the vote.
Today we take up the Junkers JU88 as we look to attack a bridge under enemy control

A Stuka career would definitely be interesting might be a short career. Don't believe I've ever seen a number career series.

Evidently, in real life, the JU87 flew at 3k feet and had its auto contact altimeter set at 1,500 feet. In addition, it was ordered in the beginning the Junkers all had to have sirens. They were turned on continuously. This drove the pilots crazy. So they demanded they have control of the sirens. This resulted in the pilot being able to turn the sirens on and off. Also, when aiming, you should have the nose just ahead of the target or fall short (as you did) because you had the nose behind the target.

That simpel rules, Rudel teaches to avoid danger by fighters.........fly at lowest level, and close together as possibel, continuously defense movements of every single plane (flip the wings, up/down)

As a kid i always thought all planes made that noise when they dive. Just shows how you can't learn anything true from watching Hollywood movies. It wasn't until I got into reading history that I learnt it was a siren on the stuka that gave them the ideas.

People mock Stukas, and if you were in a Spitfire, maybe they were kinda easy meat, but if you were at the short end of them on the ground, you might've had a different opinion. I met an old Dutch man many years ago, who had witnessed first hand how terrifying a Stuka attack was. He told me they peed their pants... he was just a child at the time (1940). In those early times of the war they used their Air Sirens I believe, to add to the fright.

Outstanding performance! Loved that you 'had a go' at the fighters. You need to have a word with the ground-crew; looks like they've been over-inflating the tires again (the bastards are taking bets how many bounces per landing).
You know, that whole bombing 'thing' kinda reminds me of a MOSQUITO? Can't think why I should mention Mosquito, cough, ahem, excuse me there, I think I caught a MOSQUITO in my throat there.
You know what I suggest you might fly soon? Yes, that's right, you guessed it (you have 'the gift'...),
    the Gloster Gladiator!
Now , that would be interesting, almost as interesting as flying a MOSQUITO? (I have no idea how that just 'popped into my head).
