    What a pleasure to hear Joyce Bulifant's charming voice in the present day! She is peaches through and through.

      Yes, she contributed to this nostalgic segment. BUT, near the top she should have kept her trap shut while Gavin was JUST GETTING UNDERWAY -- and getting emotional while doing so -- with his touching, precise anecdote about the "MTM" ep. where he received the most mail. About real life things so many can relate: a milestone birthday and its emotional pitfalls and "falling for" a coworker, someone you spend eight hours a day with. Surely he had something profound to say about Mary Tyler Moore and her aura on the set.
      Dammit if Joyce didn't blurt in, "Well, how do you think I felt?" What's more inexcusable is that it was 'Marie," her character she was referencing, not Joyce Bulifant. So, she was trying to be funny. It backfired, unfortunately at Gavin's -- and the audience's -- expense.
      Newsflash, Joyce -- there was plenty of time for you to express that. But not when Gavin "had the floor." All performers have egos; hers got in the way here and she couldn't resist jumping in, "stepping on his lines." Obviously we missed a great deal of what he'd intended to say.
      "Joyce, dear, would you please let me finish." -- a should-have-said moment.

    My goodness, the pull and impact of Mary Tyler Moore. It will never diminish. She was unique, so important to so many people throughout their lives at different stages of their lives - the DVD Show, MTM Show and Ordinary People. How many actors can say they've had that kind of lasting impact? And are so beloved? A cultural icon, a transcendent shooting star blazing across the sky, seen, remembered, treasured.

    One of the great things about TV series is that people sort of become their characters. Marie is really a bit jealous. We love that!

    • @scvandy3129
      @scvandy3129 Před 3 lety

      "Marie is really a bit jealous" -- we get that, but it certainly wasn't as meaningful, as impactful as if Joyce was jealous. And her "timing" was WAY OFF. ed. - please see my well-thought-out reply to "saltwatercb".
      We clearly get that Joyce and Gavin are friends. Yet near everybody and their cousin got a call from Aaron Spelling's casting director offering a guest spot on "The Love Boat." In all those years -- nine -- Joyce never did one episode, more-or-less a stunt-casting bit with "our captain, Capt. Stubbing" -- Gavin.

    Wow, they both looked great!! It's like they really hadn't aged. I always thought Murray and Marie were very convincing as a married couple, although she wasn't with him at every Teddy Awards ceremony or other events. Joyce did tell me awhile back that she was initially supposed to appear in the final episode but sadly, was not in it after all. Probably because they only had about 23-24 minutes to work with and adding one more character to that highly emotional wrap-up of the series just wasn't possible.

    As for Mary Tyler Moore, she was incredible in both "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Dick Van Dyke Show" . Personally, I found her to be a fine role model in handling diabetes. She lived to 80! If she could do that, with type 1, then people like myself (with type 2) can do it, too! To sum up my feelings about her, "She turned the world on with her smile" and "She made it after all."
    Sadly, we have just lost Gavin MacLeod. But I will see you in heaven someday, Gavin! I know you are with the Lord. You will be missed here. Joyce, I trust you are doing well and staying safe. You are an incredible comedienne.

    I wonder if it was a navy blue blazer?

    • @scvandy3129
      @scvandy3129 Před 3 lety +1

      That would be so ordinary; every adult male had a navy blue blazer -- almost -- back in the day when people "dressed."
      No; I suspect it was the light blue. I think I read an interview with Ted Knight where he stated it was indeed the powder blue that seems so identifiable as what people associated TV newsmen to wear, i.e., a little flashier than the norm. I think the rest of the anecdote was that Ted had to borrow the money to buy the sport coat as he was enduring a 'lean period' that so often happens with actors and actresses -- unless they have the security of a series.
      . . . . How fortunate he happened to be driving past that menswear shop AND the display was the clothing item that caught Ted's eye.
      I enjoyed this talk; wish it was full length.
