Hey Dad, how do you feel about Alan Wake? 👻
It's an amazing game. Now it's a bit dated, but I still love the story and can't wait for part 2. I also got an Xbox One just to try American Nightmare.
I've never played it so don't have a real thought, I would like to though.
Never played it son, so I appreciate your retrospective on the topic
love it, i remember renting it when i was 8 and my mom came into the living room at 1 am while i was deep into the game she had a mud mask on and i almost shit my pants
Hey son, I really liked it at the time. Sounds like it really connected with you, glad you found a topic you could really get your teeth into.
a two hour video about one of my favorite games of all time?
son, you have no idea how happy i am right now
Glad you enjoy it!
You took the words out of my mouth. 👌🏽😲
Yee boy
"Hey, dad, it's me: your favorite son." Is so bittersweet and somehow haunting to me, every time.
I've always felt like he is gonna follow up that line with some bad news of some kind. Like, "...it's me, your fav son. Uncle Whoever is dead, nasty mutagen accident." haha
Makes me feel old, actually 😐😐
Mispronouncing foreign names? Wow, your CZcams career is already... Finnish'ed.

This is my favorite retrospective of yours so far. You always put quality and passion into them but, its clear you put alot of time into researching it.
Thanks, I had a lot of fun making this one
Your videos have a special, unique style. Always very appealing and high class produced. Very impressive, well done Son!
Been waiting patiently for this one
You never disappoint, son 👍
Hope you enjoy!
Son, you make me so proud. The effort, the quality, everything is just so clean. I love the content, always have. I cant wait to see what else you tackle.
Gotta admit, this game is what got me into writing. Now I ow it a lot, and this analysis just made me remember once again the love I have for it. Got lucky since I got my hands in the collector's edition, which includes additional material, and even the book called The Alan Wake Files (I am translating the title because I got the Spanish version of it. Great translation work done to it by the way). Anyways, thank you for making such beautiful video. Greetings from México.
A video that does one of my favourite games total justice. Thank you for this ❤
Yours wasn't too shabby either 😎
Dont forget the Lore Dump fever dream
Two of my favorite CZcamsrs in one comment thread. I'm starstruck 🤩
Man I discovered your channel with the fable series and I gotta say that the quality of the narrative you deliver with your videos are amazing, you can feel the passion. Keep the good work I’m looking forward to see this channel grow
Such a in-depth and well written video. I highly appreciate your long form videos. You can definitely feel the passion you have for the games you cover for your videos.
This is also a fairly great way to get caught up if you want a refresher in prep for Alan Wake 2, minus some extra stuff released with the AWE dlc from CONTROL.
Aw yeah boy. Thanks for this one! I love this studio. Control is such an amazing piece of art. Do you have any plans to visit Control in the future, by the way?
Possibly 😎
@@YourFavoriteSon1 would like to see your opinion on quantum break aswell
Alan Wake has one of my favourite moments of storytelling: the song "Poet and the Muse". A song - created by a real band knowing the meaning of the song but acting as a band in a video game that wrote that song without understanding its actual meaning - that tells the story of what happened once and happened again but also tells you what you have to do.... but you won't understand that until you're actually in the situation the song describes. Absolutely fantastic
That is a kind of meta that would make Wes Craven blush
Poet & the Muse is sung by Poets of the Fall, the real life version of Old Gods of Asgard. It's the same band, just under different names in different universes. Poet & the Muse is one of my absolute favourite songs of theirs, & stands so well alone even without the context of the video game as do most of Poets of the Fall's & Old Gods of Asgard's songs
Absolute masterpiece of a video you’re my favourite CZcamsr and you have such a relaxing voice ! Cheers mate from New Zealand
Been watching a lot of your retrospective videos recently. Love all the hard work and passion you put into it! I know it doesn't mean much from an internet stranger but Keep it up! your content is fantastic!
great video. very much hoping to see you cover Control at some point. the connections between the two are so interesting, especially the parallels between the clicker and the light switch cord, and its adherence to the rule of three as seen in American Nightmare, as well as the parallel between Alan Wake's shoe box, and the shoe box used in Casper Darling's interdimensional research.
Great work, really looking forward to you doing a retrospective on Control - hopefully in the not-too-distant future! 🤞
You always post when I have a big deadline! So grateful for your channel, keeps me so focused while I work. Thanks son
Glad I could help haha
My guy, these videos are amazing. Don't burn yourself out putting out so much at once. These are gold, but I'd rather you not feel obligated to put out +2 hour bangers every two weeks. You're channel will grow bigly thanks to the care you give to the material. Love your work.
Your best video yet! Keep up the good work. Love the long videos
Love Alan Wake, Son. Glad you came around to doing this one.
Also, playing the original will give you fun Verizon Wireless tie-ins that aren't in the remaster.
It's great!
This is one of the coolest games I ever played, I'm really glad you covered this one man, awesome content.
One of my favorites of your videos so far. I think you've become a better writer over time too from what I can tell.
But who am I to say, I've only rewatched your stuff a bajillion times!
Great deep dive into one of my favourite games of all time, hadn't seen your channel before and subbed within 20 mins
You are crushing it with these vids and your choice of subjects, mate
Hope you enjoy!
Glad to see another long video such as this, always love watching them
You've outdone yourself Son! Alan Wake is a fantastic game and this retrospective has been brilliant.
My own son turns 14 in a month and I’m preparing to share with him my favorite video game, Alan Wake. Thank you for your video!
Another great video in your videography can’t wait to see you hit 100k
Great video as always son!
Keep up the good work, this video could dethrone Legacy of Cain as my favorite video of yours.
You just keep getting better!
alan wake is one of my most favorite games. thanks for making a video about it and adding something new to this core memory. loved your video
Watching your series are like sitting near a lake, far from human kind, were time stands still and you can breathe for a while., so thankyou , in todays crazy paced world, its much appreciated.
I've never played the game but your retrospectives are always great.
Hey son great video as always!
I was waiting for someone to make a good long video about this game. SO EXCITED FOR THE REVAMP
Son, I must thank you for mentioning the music in this video. I had completely forgotten about The Poet and The Muse, but I did remember that I liked it a lot when I played this game in my youth. Sure enough, 60 listens later I still cannot get enough of it.
i'm so glad you spent enough time talking about poets of the fall, son.
this band really makes amazing songs and it really shows how much of a deep research you did in this video
Love the video, I’m sure you’re very busy and have lots of video ideas, and I think you should make whatever video will keep you motivated, but I would love to see a retrospective on the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic games. Regardless of what you decide, keep up the good work son, I get excited every time you post a video.
That's on the list for someday
Another excellent video son. You made this old man's day today. Keep up the great work as always.
Another banger of a video from my favorite son. Real proud of you
Thanks Dad!
This has been your best series yet, so proud of my son
Thanks Dad
I absolutely love Alan Wake and would like to see more from the studio like this
Well, thankfully Alan Wake II currently is set to release later this year!
What a wonderful intro! Bravo!!
Found this channel just a few weeks ago, and I'm enjoying the videos very much. Just wanted to say that.
Glad you enjoy!
I'm genuinely baffled at the skill you have with words, this is amazing. thank you.
been waiting for this one son.
Very well done history and retrospective piece on one of my favorite game franchises. I am absolutely excited to see you take on Alan Wake II and it's DLC once that is released. :)
Nah man this js something else i was dreaming of finding a channel like your sending love mate❤
This video just helps reinforce one of my favorite games ever made, thank you
Hey son,
I never got far enough in Alan Wake to give it a fair chance. At the time I just couldn't get into nor did I care for the whole flashlight/combat mechanic. I'm willing to give this another try because of you, son.
You did a great video too!
Did you read my mind? I've been watching alan wake videos all day
Hope you enjoy!
Blessed content. Cherished discovery. Subbed
I am so deeply in love with this game and with your video retrospective/analysis. Thank you so much for this...
Alan Wake, to me, is a beautiful game that can be taken as is, with little to no interpretation outside of the literal experiences of our "helpless" and often frightened protagonist. But I also see it as the struggle for creative expression and how we as flawed human beings try to build on something beautiful but are filled with insecurities. The only way we could possibly make sense of our journey is by using the mundane and familiar to become the supernatural. A child uses a stick on the ground and it becomes a sword, a gun, a pen, a conductor's baton... Alan uses a flashlight to fend off his enemies.
Thank you so much for this. It is a comfort to me.
I loved that they used 'Space Oddity'. It makes me wonder if they will use 'The Man Who Sold The World' in Alan Wake 2. Since it's David Bowie's follow-up to Space Oddity that would be amazing! I always think of that song when I see the first Alan Wake scene in AWE, it's totally fitting, as is one of the inspirations for the lyrics- the poem 'Antigonish', by William Hughes Mearns. Good Stuff 👍
AWE?
@@littlebadassgamingthe AWE DLC in Control
One of my favorite CZcamsrs covering one of my favorite games. Great job, son
As a finn I approve of your pronounciation, I respect you for trying to pronounce their names even though you could've done otherwise. Thank you!
Thanks!
Good reference to the twin peaks theory video, right off the bat. I’m stoked for this video!
This was FANTASTIC! God, really just fleshed out my already massive love for this franchise. You did an amazing job covering as much bonus material you could find, but I'd like to know if you've since become aware of "This House of Dreams", a fictional blog written by a woman who finds some of Thomas Zane's old stuff. The cool part? She's found them just after having moved to a town called Ordinary, the same one referenced (in a creepy reversed audio clip) in the song "Balance Slays the Demon" from Alan Wake's American Nightmare. I think this was, at the time, Remedy planting the seeds for a sequel but whether or not they will pull from or even acknowledge all this bonus material is yet to be seen but in a world where the lines between fiction, reality, canon, and non-canon are blurred I don't see why not.
And off I go to watch the following videos on Quantum Break and Control.
Hey son! What an upload I'm so proud ❤
Excellent subject choice, son. Can't wait to see your take on this tonight.
Hope you enjoy!
You are amazing, thank you very much for this amazing content :DD
I would wish a "the messenger" retrospective from you :)
Keep it up, Son. You're doing great!
The first scary game I played! I always watched people play because I would panic too much but this one eased me into horror and I loved it.
I was hooked when you mentioned house of leaves. Respect. I completely agree. Fantastic work
another well-crafted piece son.
Youre doing great son. Your videos help me fall asleep. Keep them up. Love, dad.
Son, you know I love Alan Wake so I appreciate this. A true gem of a game made by a true gem of a content creator.
Glad you enjoyed!
My brother
Thanks son, I love these videos
I remember watching my big brother play this game when I was 10. I want to replay it again, but on my Steam Deck. I'm now around the same age as my brother was when he played it for the first time, which is nuts to me lol
As to the "what is Lynchian?" question, I'm no expert or anything, but in my opinion, it's using Lynch's unique method of using characters or places or things to represent abstract ideas.
For example, Dale Cooper representing the benevolent viewers who want to get lost in a mystery while trying to solve a murder. He even uses colors to represent concepts like truth and secrecy. That, to me, encapsulates what Lynchian is and even though he's probably not the first to use such methods, he does so consistently and fearlessly in all his works.
Ooooh... Alan Wake, how did I miss this for 3 weeks... Love this game.
Amazing, I was playing Alan Wake remastered for a few weeks now. I was raving about a lot of things that I didn't like but now a lot of the development problems makes sense. I saw the playstation showcase and was suuuuper excited but ultimately thought 13 years of cold silence was unacceptable. This video showed me there was no cold silence and that I simply wasnt in the loop. I'm going to play Control now.
Oh, I am definitely looking forward to your coverage of one of my favourite gaming universes.
Will you be covering the comics, ARG, prequel show, books, etc? (Your intro suggests yes! I'm commenting early out of excitement)
Haunted is one of my favorite songs in any video game ever. Every time I play this game, I stop at the end of the episode and listen to the whole song.
Amazing video! Would love to hear your thoughts on control!
Brilliant work Son, as always keep up the good work! :)
Also you said you were gonna focus on stand alone games for the next few, keeping to the theme of Horror do you think you would do a retrospective on World of Horror game the japanese one?
That's not a bad idea
I love finding this in my suggested IMMEDIATELY after completeing the Remastered version of the game a few days ago. What timing
I wasn't all that into Alan Wake when it first came out. Years later a friend of mine got me to play it again and, shortly after, Control came out. Now, it's held about as high regard as the Drakengard series is. It's that kind of story telling you only get one every couple years.
great video!
Me and my friend still quote, "And then I heard that chainsaw" whenever shit is about to hit the fan 😆.
I played Alan Wake on release and it has stayed with me ever since. The music at the end of each episode hits so hard. A real masterpiece of a game. It wasn't what people were expecting to want, and its depth will only appeal to a niche, more thoughtful audience. But its a solid game even if you overlook the depth.
Another one to be proud of, Son.
Oh son. Please be A.Wake for this one… the darkness will consume you , if you don’t.
True
I haven't detected any strange yet intentional delivery in Alan Wake. In fact, this is the first time I've heard someone suggest it. Sounded as if voice actors were doing their best given there is no Twin Peaks atmosphere or oddities like pauses, even slightly. No Remedy game has ever gone this far into Lynch's work when their games. Silent Hill 2 was somewhat close in letting the ambient sounds or music fill the empty spaces of silence, pauses, whereas Alan Wake does feel far more Steven King in approach with action/suspense.
Love the twin peaks refference in the begining about electricity
I'm mainly watching this cause it's free on playstation right now and everytime I see a game that I may like, I usually watch your videos to see if ill like them
"Some days you wake up with a flashlight. Sometimes, you don't." What a powerful summation of what it's like to have illusive confidence in your own work. Sometimes, your own imagination consumes you as a dark forest would an animal. Your own creation, rebelling against its creator by making itself out as foreign; its familiar features, warped by shadows. Some days, that's just the way it's going to be and all you can do is keep calm in the darkness, making little to no progress but then there are the other days. The ones where you're blessed by some invisible muse and you flip on the light, only to recognise that you were at home, all along. Thank you for another enlightening video, son. I'm proud of you.
Son, I used to be a Sony fanboy. I know, it was a dark time in a misspent youth. But even in the most feverish moments of utterly subjective fanaticism, Alan Wake stood out as the 1 game I wished PS3 had.
Thanks for this video, you make your pops proud.
My boyfriend used to leave CZcams playing on tv all night long while we slept and every single night the algorithm brought us to this video and I always woke up to your voice, like: "Ahh, it's that time again" I have seen this so many times lol.
Mr Scratch does appear at the end of episode 6, not just the DLC
Also Barry isn't the manager of Old Gods instead of Alan because it's some alternative timeline, he is their manager after Alan disappeard, the events of the main game happened and are referenced by the characters, the town in Arizona is a real town but it's blending with the fictional town of Night Springs, Alan comments on it, that the dark place is blending with a real town and changes even the people in it
Wowzers, just watched the whole thing & I never knew Alan Wake was such a huge game. Definitely on the To Play list now :))
I think that Agent Nightingale was named after the Julee Cruise song ”The Nightingale”, which was used in the pilot episode of Twin Peaks
Thomas Zane might also be taken from Billy Zane, who appeared in s2 of TP
Son, what a game! It was so good. I am looking forward to the sequel
Marko Saaresto of Poets of the Fall actually modeled as Vladimir Llem in the first Max Payne.
So he was collaborating with Sam Lake before writing Late Goodbye for MP 2.
This game is very Lynch-Kingcraftian, indeed my good man.
I feel like just saying would feel more appropriate with a tiny cup of tea, a monocle, and a driver named Reginald waiting to pick me up outside my estate. Regardless, fantastic vid! You really went deep and this game as well as Remedy are among my favorite things ever so it does this old timer's heart well to see you do it justice.
Alan Wake is fantastic. I greatly enjoy the linked worlds Remedy has created between Alan Wake and another amazing game of theirs, Control. Both are two of my favorite gamed. Alan Wake 2 comes out this year and Control 2 is yet TBA, but I definitely am looking forward to both games. Remedy's story telling is deep and provocative. They make you think and truly contemplate the tales they weave. While their gameplay started out a bit rough around the edges, every game shows improvement upon their last and this gives me great hope for even better to come. I have not finished Chorvs yet, as I keep playing Control, but it's next on my list.
Thank you for your indepth look into Alan Wake. Your videos are very well done and I appreciate ya.
P.S. as a man in his 50's I'm certainly old enough to be your dad 😂 possibly even grandad. God bless you son.
Great video, i never beat Alan Wake i have it on steam though. May go back and finish now i love this kind of story with a tragic ending. Will set me into the mood for if 2 actually comes out this year.
Up Jumped the Devil is such a good song! Thank you Remedy for showing me Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. They have a version of Black Betty that is just amazing!
cute jab at twin perfect in the intro, son
Wake up babe, Son uploaded a new banger
