@@Jerry823Coates The only reason why the SEC dominated college football for a 15 year period is because the US Gov't destroyed the Rust Belt when they signed NAFTA to sell out the manufacturing center of the country to China. After that the blue collar families, from the Midwest, relocated to the South looking for stable work. After NIL and Saban retiring, the SEC's dominance is over. The B1G generates more revenue then the SEC for sports AND academics. So the SEC can't hold the B1G's financial jockstrap. After the B1G add ND it over, because the SEC will never be able to catch up to them financially no matter who they add. FSU is already trying to join the B1G, so they are already expanding their national footprint into the South. The B1G negotiated the superior TV contract because they are better at business. Disney/ESPN can't even afford to pay the SEC for a 9th conference game because they are broke failing companies.

Buck’s fan here. Nothing is a lock, when it comes to this game…either the game of college football itself or the much more recent game of the transfer portal and NIL. But you wouldn’t be out of bounds or guilty of overreach if you projected a championship season in 2024 for the Buckeyes. While there are a few areas that admittedly warrant additional attention…like the O-line and the kicking game…and special teams play…in all other aspects the amazing level of talent now on display is unlike anything this team or this fan base has ever seen. But implicit within that context the imperatives are the same as they have always been: Success at Ohio State for any coach is spelled “Beat TTUN”, “Win the B1G” and “Bring home a national championship”. The future of our current head coach is always going to be dependent on how well he delivers on those three interdependent requirements. The fact that none of those requirements has yet been met over multiple consecutive seasons greatly adds to the sense of immediacy affecting the coming season. At the very least you have to expect that a win over their rival is an absolute in 2024…for all of the aforementioned reasons and especially now that TTUN must replace not only their head coach, but a host of other key personnel on and off the field. The sense is that if he (Day) and they (the Buck’s) can’t get it done this time around, the former is going to have to roll on out of Columbus and seek his next challenge elsewhere. And I’m sure he’s aware of where things stand…in that regard. The recent unprecedented moves in the portal are sufficient tacit proof of that. But it doesn’t stop there…not for the man in charge of the Ohio State Buckeyes, and especially for the man in charge of a team as overwhelmingly laden with talent…as _this_ one.

The difference between Will Howard and Kyle McCord is both have pretty equal arm talent and maybe McCord is even slightly better but McCord was not the leader that Howard has been and McCord lacks the ability and intention to run out of the pocket that Howard has. Howard is slightly bigger and can be used on QB power runs and read options in short-yardage situations and the red zone, also. Will Howard was going to be a 4th round NFL grade pick and had a Senior Bowl invite but wants to improve his NFL draft stock.

The Buckeyes are getting a ‘boat load’ of transfers? They got a total of 5-6 transfers. That seems like a raft vs boat load. 1 of the 5 transfers is the tight end from Ohio University. Sayin is a considered a 2023 recruit b/c he just started 1-2 days of classes before Saban retired. Lastly, these players didn’t come to Ohio State just for the NIL - regardless of what Michigan & Georgia are complaining about.

That Michigan game is going to become less and less important with the expanded playoffs. If Ohio State goes 12-1 and loses to Michigan but still makes the playoffs and makes run at a championship people won't care much about that one loss. The rivalry was built largely on the importance to win the Big Ten, make the rise bowl, make the playoffs and win a championship.
Do you remember how important it was to appear in a rose bowl? When was the last time Ohio State even appeared in the rose bowl. Often times the rose bowl is a consolation prize to whomever doesn't win the big ten and the playoffs.

I think too many people make too much out of a QBs mobility. The biggest difference we're going to so going from McCord to Howard is his mobility but his ability to find receivers. McCord could physically make every pass on the field but had difficulties finding the open receivers. He didn't make quick recognitions and go through his progression. Howard's mobility will certainly be a great asset at times but Howard won't need to check down to the safe routs as often.

By all accounts Mclaughlin was considered a good center, good enough to start for Alabama, but had problems with snap. Ohio State believes they can fix that.
