  • Rece Davis and Pete Thamel talk about Ohio State’s boatload of portal additions - including Alabama quarterback Julian Sayin and Alabama defensive back Caleb Downs - and how this affects new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer’s program in the upcoming season. Rece and Pete also get into how Ohio State head coach Ryan Day built and supplemented his team. Then, they make some way-too-early pre-season game picks and get into a discussion on how fairly coaches are being judged.

After that the blue collar families, from the Midwest, relocated to the South looking for stable work. After NIL and Saban retiring, the SEC's dominance is over. The B1G generates more revenue then the SEC for sports AND academics. So the SEC can't hold the B1G's financial jockstrap. The difference between Will Howard and Kyle McCord is both have pretty equal arm talent and maybe McCord is even slightly better but McCord was not the leader that Howard has been and McCord lacks the ability and intention to run out of the pocket that Howard has. Howard is slightly bigger and can be used on QB power runs and read options in short-yardage situations and the red zone, also. Will Howard was going to be a 4th round NFL grade pick and had a Senior Bowl invite but wants to improve his NFL draft stock.

One is a transfer from Ohio University, so hardly surprising he became a Buckeye with the opportunity. Three are from Alabama after Saban left, and Caleb Downs and the QB Sayin, had OSU as a top choice if not second overall to Alabama when they committed. In addition, OSU's new OC, O'Brien, is who recruited Sayin to the Tide. None are unreasonable gets when you look at the facts.

    Buck’s fan here. Nothing is a lock, when it comes to this game…either the game of college football itself or the much more recent game of the transfer portal and NIL. But you wouldn’t be out of bounds or guilty of overreach if you projected a championship season in 2024 for the Buckeyes. While there are a few areas that admittedly warrant additional attention…like the O-line and the kicking game…and special teams play…in all other aspects the amazing level of talent now on display is unlike anything this team or this fan base has ever seen. But implicit within that context the imperatives are the same as they have always been: Success at Ohio State for any coach is spelled “Beat TTUN”, “Win the B1G” and “Bring home a national championship”. The future of our current head coach is always going to be dependent on how well he delivers on those three interdependent requirements. The fact that none of those requirements has yet been met over multiple consecutive seasons greatly adds to the sense of immediacy affecting the coming season. At the very least you have to expect that a win over their rival is an absolute in 2024…for all of the aforementioned reasons and especially now that TTUN must replace not only their head coach, but a host of other key personnel on and off the field. The sense is that if he (Day) and they (the Buck’s) can’t get it done this time around, the former is going to have to roll on out of Columbus and seek his next challenge elsewhere. And I’m sure he’s aware of where things stand…in that regard. The recent unprecedented moves in the portal are sufficient tacit proof of that. But it doesn’t stop there…not for the man in charge of the Ohio State Buckeyes, and especially for the man in charge of a team as overwhelmingly laden with talent…as _this_ one.

McCord could physically make every pass on the field but had difficulties finding the open receivers. He didn't make quick recognitions and go through his progression. Howard's mobility will certainly be a great asset at times but Howard won't need to check down to the safe routs as often.

If Ohio State goes 12-1 and loses to Michigan but still makes the playoffs and makes run at a championship people won't care much about that one loss. • @ScottCleve33
      @ScottCleve33 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@Noaaahoriginal Well logic should tell you that Ohio State was a good team and only really lost one game all season and that was by only 6 points.
      Logic should also tell you that they had a few holes and areas to improve upon. This is where the portal comes in the filled some areas of need. They upgraded the QB position and the filled the safety position that was opened up by a player going into the draft.
      By all accounts Mclaughlin was considered a good center, good enough to start for Alabama, but had problems with snap. Ohio State believes they can fix that.
      Again, objectively speaking Ohio State had one of the top six teams in college football and their biggest issue/weakness was at QB and that's been upgraded. Through the portal by the way. And meanwhile they upgraded areas like RB and solidified their future at QB.
