    Another great video. This was on our gaming groups radar during HS in the late 80s. We were Army Brats at Fort Bragg and Red Dawn had come out so it made a lot of sense, but we never played. My current gaming group is also mainly vets and one from Europe in our late 40s to mid 50s and so have a better handle on the details of things. We were kickstarters and looking to dive in. Big Modiphius (just played our 1st Achtung! CTHULU session!) as well as Free League. I agree, the Art is lights out. looking to dive in to TW2K after the new year. Suggest watching The Road to get some of the feels.
    Look forward to more videos.

      My group are all adults 40+ with one or 2 over 50. My 16 year old plays with us occasionally, but he is moving more towards his own group these days. We too were heavily influenced by Red Dawn. I remember running a Red Dawn scenario in which the players played themselves in our home town.

    Since you seem to like fictional warfare and Martin Grip, Grip pronunced roughly "Greep" means Griffin in English.
    The Swedish jet fighter plane J39 Gripen are in fact named "the Griffin" if translated.
    Many cities and some companies such as truck manufacturer Scania and Saab uses the Griffin as a symbol here in Sweden.
    Anyway thanks for a cool review, never heard of this game but I might order it now.
    Cheers from Uppsala Sweden.

    Thanks for this and your other Free League reviews, Deeb. I've found them both informative and entertaining. I've just invested in Mutant Year Zero, Coriolis and the new Vaesen Kickstarter as I'm looking for new stories outside of 5e. I do remember Twilight 2000 from my youth, although I never played it because it seemed too complicated for me and my friends. - but then we never got past D&D Basic... I appreciated your caution about the content at the end. It is the thing that I was wondering about the most tbh, that and the potential for it to be more of a wargame simulation-some of the community content PDFs of Drivethrurpg look very "weekend warrior-ish", which doesn't interest me as much as picking an interesting, if albeit very challenging, setting to try to create worthwhile stories from. I think, like Paavo, I might sit this one out for a while and try to play the other three games first. If you have any further thoughts after playing this with your friends, please do share; I have subscribed!

      Although I am certainly a fan of all Free League games for the most part, you picked 3 of my favorites to start with. Coriolis is my number 1 at the moment. I have run MYZ Genlab Alpha and really enjoyed it. The way each of the MYZ setting tie in with each other yet remain stand alone is brilliant game design. I like the gritty authentic military feel of T2000, but for my end of the world post apocalypse needs, I prefer MYZ. Thanks for watching!

    I have played the original first version a little and remember it being quite cumbersome... Second version, or was it v2.2 which I still own, was much more playable and I remember running many memorable scenarios with it. So I was delighted to hear about Kickstarter of this new version.
    Thanks for the video - This new version of Twilight looks mighty interesting!
    Too bad though that even if I buy this, I probably don't have the time to play it :/

    Very interesting game I'll likely never play. Enjoyed the review a great deal again! We planned on playing the old version in the nineties and I read a bunch of the books. This would definitely be more enjoyable as a game. Again FL has done a top tier job on creating another cool variation on the year 0 system as well as what seems like an intriguing world. But I think as a genre this isn't for me or my friends.
    I would love to hear about your coriolis campaign though! My books should arrive today!

    This game scratches several genre itches for me, I'm sold! Whether I'll find anyone else to play it with is another question but I'll be geeking out on all the rad 80s and 90s NATO and Combloc weapons. What scale would the battle mats roughly equate to? They seem to be much too small for "hero" sized 28mm and I'm scared to imagine painting minis smaller than that...

    • @blandgaming6222
      @blandgaming6222  Před 2 lety +1

      They are approximately 1/100 scale I'd say. Have a look at World War III minis by Battlefront. www.team-yankee.com/

    • @carpma11
      @carpma11 Před 2 lety +1

      They're cool as heck but you're probably right about game slowdown from using minis too much in a game like this.

    • @blandgaming6222
      @blandgaming6222  Před 2 lety

      I like to depict combat as loud, visceral, confusing, and chaotic. That's hard to portray with an overhead tactical view of the battle.

    Why does everyone say you couldn't play civilians in other versions. Versions 2.0 and 2.2 have a whole bunch of civilian career paths

    • @blandgaming6222

    • @blandgaming6222
      @blandgaming6222  Před 2 lety +1

      I am not a fan of crunchy systems, and I can tell you that this system is accurate enough to make it feel real, but smooth and simple to keep the narrative moving. I just don't explain rules very well due to the fact that I am very right brained. There are some good videos showing examples of play which show how the rules work. Give those a shot, that is if the setting sounds interesting to you.
