I think Tort got the two games because the owner came out and said he'll pay the fine. Bettman didn't like that statement and wanted to make sure Torts was fully punished. If the owner kept his mouth shut after the incident, it probably would have just been a fine.

That's not how it works. He's not allowed in the rink. He could coach the game from his house with Zoom. There's no need to be inside the building.
To your point about gambling, how long before someone sues the NHL over losing a bet on a play where a ref went outside of the rule book?
I am not trying to defend anyone here, but this could be done for any sport. There are "bad calls" everywhere that could impact a game, so it will not happen.

To those saying teams like Florida get some of the most PIM’s and therefore don’t get preferential treatment from officials or front office:
It’s not just straight PIMs that matter. Florida starts scrums with every team, there are probably a lot of offsetting PIMs and Florida just racks them up. Also could be 10 minute misconducts in these scrums that don’t actually impact the game very much. The important part is game management (when the penalties are called and for what) and the severity of supplemental discipline on dirty or intent to injure plays (Cousins on Gudbransson). Florida could have the most PIMs in the league and still get favourable game management calls and favourable decisions on supplemental discipline.

I'm so glad that Lidstrom was in his prime and Datsyuk and Zetterberg came along in time to save Steve Yzerman from having to go through what Sid is going through. He was diminished after his knee surgery but they kept the winning seasons for about 10 years, 3 Conference Finals and 1-1 in the Stanely Cup Finals after that.
Yzerman was not on those Red Wings teams that played the Penguins back to back in the cup if that’s what ur referring to

Shanny was not the player he was. Federov had left. Datsyuk and Zetterberg were on the rise. Saved Stevie from maybe going thru it.
The 2 game suspension was because he broke rule L0L - QQ: You shall not hurt the Ref's feewings. They are sensitive and above all judgment.

I bet Torts got the 2 games because his owner paid the fine for him and they needed to do something to punish Torts that the owner couldn't cover for. The extra 25k was to punish the owner. At least, that's my opinion. I think if the Flyers owner kept his mouth shut until the punishment was issued, it would have been a fine only.

The problem with Crosby staying in Pittsburgh thru a rebuild is he’s still too good for them to finish last. They’d get a ton an assets and then finish last and be back in the playoffs in 3-5 years.

Is Adam high? Colorado won the President's trophy and the Cup with Borque. And, (I had to look this second part up) the year previous when Borque joined the Avs at the deadline, they were the 3 seed in the west.

With regard to the offside conversation, what everyone keeps forgetting is that there sometimes there is an actual judgement call that sometimes needs to be made with it. Two in fact.
First, does the attacking player have control of the puck when he's bringing it over the line, which is something that almost no amount of computer tech will help with, that has to be called by the linesmen on the ice since "control" is subjective.
Second, and the thing that started this whole debacle, did the defending team pass the puck back into their own zone. Why does everyone keep forgetting that the linesmen didn't make the call that Duchene was offside because in his view the Nashville Predators passed the puck back into their zone. (They didn't for the record, but that's what led to Duchene being SO far offside. Because of the rule that allows for a player to be offside if the puck is played back into the zone deliberately by the defending team)
So best solution, let the refs call it on the ice, do away with video review, and if it's a missed call it's a missed call. Let me cheer for my team to score at all times, instead of having to hedge my fandom if I see a play that looks like it MIGHT be offside. There's no worse whiplash than having to, 9-10 times a game, hope that the enemy D clears the puck from their zone so that the zone entry can be cleaner. It's obnoxious.
As an Avs fan, I died laughing when we convinced NJ to give us assets for Graves. And I died even harder when Dubas gave him term and money hahaha.

The refs have called the games the same way since ive been watching in '91. Penalty calls have to be as close as equal as possible. So if ur a chippy team, lets say Florida, u can take as many penalties you want and play as dirty as u want. Overall, its gonna balance out because of Florida getting extra penalties from the other team retaliating. The refs reward teams that take more penalties by ignoring more while giving them PPs because its their turn. Its maddening the refs call the game like this. When Detroit gets 3 or 4 calls, and you see a bunch of penalties being ignored because they have already had too many power plays, its maddening.
You would think that with gambling being a major sponsor in the NHL that bias reffing would be less an issue.
If you put on your conspiracy theorist hat, you could say it's a feature, not a bug.
Cooper got kicked out of a game a year or so ago by Wes for saying his call was awful. You can read the lips, nothing personal at all. And for the rest of the year and into the next, Wes called a very disporoportional calls against tampa compared to all other teams. Guy is such an ego maniac.

To the offside discussion, just make the rule state if three or four defenders have entered the defensive zone, the play can no longer be offside. Or add a timer... Puck in the zone for 7-10?? Seconds? That entry can no longer be challenged for offside.

Vancouver Canucks fans don't need more ammo to complain about corrupt refs and NHL executives fixing games. Colin Campbell had a son aka Gregory Campbell on the Boston Bruins in 2011. There is now a paper trail to him fixing games. The Bruins should have their 2011 Cup rescinded.

The officials in the NHL are not made available because they don’t want one getting fed up and saying the reason I ignored 5 blatant penalties from team A is because Team B had the last 3 power plays so the next one had to go to the other team.
Anyone who watches hockey knows this is how they officiate most games.
The only exception is if a team dare call out the officials you can expect they will come up on the short end next game.
Just watch Vancouver Minnesota the game after they criticized the officiating suddenly they found themselves with 4 lengthy 5 on 3s

I got their jersey in hopes of having former alumni of their team that currently play in the NHL to sign it sometime, with HUGE bonus points for that 2009 team! (Mike Hoffman, Dmitry Kulikov, looking at you guys! I'd even forego my hate of the Flyers if I could get Couturier's autograph on my Voltigeurs jersey!!)
If I remember correctly, way back when you had to switch batteries, you had to share lunch but could only afford 2 fo 1 deals, so one person couldn't eat that day.

Colin Miller is a RHD, under 2 million bucks, shoots right and is good enough to make the lineup. The fact that the leafs couldn't make this trade is baffling.
So, I think there is something important here. So, to take football: Arsene Wenger was very successful with Arsenal. But, when he started with the team, he had a really good talent scout/head hunter. And Arsene would say "I want player [X] or [Y]" and his guy would go out, look at those players, and also look at what other players had similar skills, temperaments, so on. And, they'd look at the top few players, the big names. But they would find the piece that was the best bang for the buck. Later on, Wenger struggled, and I don't think it is a coincidence that Wenger also took more control in personnel.
A team like Pittsburgh - they need to listen to their Coach. They need to listen to Sid. They need to listen to Dubas. But they need someone who they give the authority to say "Cool, you're saying your want [X], but what you want are skills [1], [2], and [3]" And then goes and finds the guy that does that. So often, the teams that succeed aren't the ones who grab the obvious pieces. They fill in their edges with solid all-rounders and guys who compliment. It's not a game of names, it's a game of skills. You need someone who can be clear eyes and hire in the skills, not the names.
For a WHL team you should pick the Medicine Hat Tigers. They have a guy going in the top 5 this year and another late 1st rounder. They also have Gavin Mckenna, bedard’s cousin, who will be the first overall pick in two years
Dubas is still way on the young end for GM's in the NHL. There are 32 in the league. I believe 27 of them are 50 or older. The other 5 consist of two ex-pros in their late 40s, a guy who's 49, and then two dudes named Kyle in their 30s lol.... thats why he's still got that young vibe.
The level of irrational hate Adam and Steve have towards Liljegren continues to be baffling and hilarious. Steve with Lyubushkin and Liljegren is literally the Gordon Ramsay meme.

🐧 I believe Crosby and Geno are what the penguins weren't able to have with Lemiuex and Jagr. I also believe they both want Letang to stay even though he should probably retire. I am thankful for the careers of Sid and Geno, they are Pittsburgh icons, and will always be.

Crosby came in and was the corner stone of building the Penguins that went on to win three cups. Why can't his legacy also be that he departed on time to bring much needed and valuable assets to his beloved team that might go on to be great again? Not to mention that the end of his career could be as productive and glorious next to his buddy in Colorado. Help his beloved team on the way in and on the way out. Just a thought.
When Bourque was traded to Colorado in 2000 they were the 3 seed and lost game 7 to the Stars. Bourque hit the post late in that game that would have tied it.

the year of the trade the Avs were a 3 seed...and the year they won they were presidents trophy winners. Not sure if they were "favorites" or not but they were absolutely contending in every season between the 2 cups. They were never lower than a 3 seed
