The State Of Our Northern Greenhouse | Prepping to grow food year round in northern Ontario CANADA

- One of our goals here on the #Wilderstead is to grow and raise as much of our food as possible. Growing food year round in northern Ontario, Canada is no easy feat. Due to the arctic cold winters and the low amount of winter sunlight hours, you don't see many northern greenhouses in operation all year. Our plan, however, is to do exactly that. We are prepping our greenhouse to grow food year round in northern Ontario. The greenhouse was built mainly with reclaimed materials, and a few purchased new. The greenhouse will be heated with wood, using a woodstove that we purchased. In the future, we'll likely try heating with a compost heap again.

A couple of scraps of plywood and some doorstop, and you're ready to rock! Awesomeness!
Soooooo close Tim!! Can wait to sit out there with the wood stove going in the middle of a blizzard!
The greenhouse looks good Dave, Going to be a nice cozy spot in the winter months
Thanks Joey, we are pretty excited!
That greenhouse looks like a solid build. Good idea using patio doors on top. Beans has a sweet beard Haha! The wood stove in our cabin is a small Morso2B but it will cook us out if we let it. Good luck with the cold temps. No snow here...yet. Peace!
He might run for best beard on CZcams 2020!!
@@Wilderstead Haha! He's got my vote.

Thanks G!
Yep, not a fan of those -19 days. Happy Holidays guys!!! Sweet greenhouse set up.
Great greenhouse! Don't make the same mistake we did and let chickens take it over. Beansie is so cute. Take care my friends - Marcie
Very cool👍
Thanks man!
that's a fancy weather station you have there! looks like winter to me. today is nice tho :) nice progress on the greenhouse build. that goat grows a better beard than i do ;) does he jump on-top of stuff?
Hey Dave. Love yer "Fricken Cold" toque. Gotta git one. How can I? You guys are great. Enjoy the snow!!
That hat is quite old, wouldn’t know where to get one now... which means frantic searches when it is misplaced
It's coming together really well! Stay warm you two (and Beans!)
It is indeed. We'll be in much better shape next fall than we were this fall LOL!!!
Lookin' very nice!!! You'll enjoy it so much :)
Greenhouse is looking amazing!!!! 😎
Thank you!! We are pretty excited to be getting so close to using it!
Looks pretty sweet Dave. Especially put together from reclaimed materials.
'Tis the homestead way!! Waste nothing. Thanks Jim!
Looks good Dave. It's tough building with salvaged materials. Everything is different sizes and you find those materials as you can. Great job. ATB. Paul
It definitely adds a second level of challenge when you are building with the salvaged stuff. Really gets your brain working too! Thanks Paul!
The green house is going to work great once ita completed! Love it, wish I had a green house haha
Thats a very cool little greenhouse ! Hope a great Christmas time for you and crew !
new friend. found you from tomorrowaday farms.
Welcome to the Wilderstead!
That's going to be a nice little growing spot when done. Remember, only 4 plants per house is legal....lol
We’re just happy there is no restriction on size 😂
@@Wilderstead lol
Very well done folks!!! Looks awesome and no doubt will help you out tons:)) Happy Ho Ho , all the best to you both:)
Really looking forward to having this extra growing space, Ryan. Happy ho ho to you and yours as well!
Love the green house ❤️. I build with as much reclaimed materials myself. New subscriber. Glad I came across your channel.
Great start! :) I have a few BIG trees to cut down out of the way where I want to place greenhouses. My neighbor heated with wood stove in his poly greenhouses. He shut them down during December through February here too dang cold. He had one of those big outdoor woodstoves and had it piped in. I helped redig and fix his piping one fall. lol
Yeah, I'm hoping with a few tricks, we manage to at least keep it above zero for the coldest months. Thanks Liana!
Yea.. that is the tricky part.
