Fishbowl Bedsy is absolutely automatic
Remember at the beginning of the season when tons of people were chanting Logan Cooley for Calder? I 'member...

Because scoring 20 goals is irrelevant if because of your refusal to back check, your line plays short handed and you're on the ice for 40 goals against. Anyone can rack up points if they're given the kind of ice time and free-pass to goal suck that Bedard enjoys. @@thatoneguy9666
@@Borodin410 He's in the top three for best rookie seasons of the last thirty years. If that's not living up to the hype, I really don't know what else you're wanting from him.
Bedard and Byram are awesome players, what Bedard is doing with no offensive help, unlike previous star rookies, is incredible. Unlike Matthews he has nobody in the universe of Marner.
Where'd you pull Byram into this😂
Maybe he meant Faber but somehow got it completely wrong lol
@@RIS3N1 maybe yeah

The Professional Hockey Writers Association chooses the winner. It was Bedard's award to lose from day 1. Bedard is the best rookie and it is not even close.
Bedard is a slightly above average player who, because the NHL chose him as the next marketing gimmick, is being gifted with the most shifts in the entire league and a pass on abysmal defensive play. Dude never back checks and is always the last man back from trying to pad his stats in the other zone. Has the worst goal differential in the entire league. Teams that didn't draft him dodged a bullet.
@@Borodin410 Bedard was not picked number one for his defensive play or to check. Chicago is an awful team and Bedard to produce how he has is incredible. You clown :D
Yeah, Bedard went 1st because Central Scouting is a division of the NHL and Bedard is a marketing gimmick. Independent scouts warned that he was a major defensive liability. As a Wild fan I really wish more hype was around brock faber he has been astounding for us this year and by far our second best player but at the same time I understand that even if there was more hype surrounding him it was still gonna go to bedard just for the points and the sheer impact on games that he has played in.
There are so many great rookies, but obviously bedard is by far the best. I can’t remember seeing a huge group of rookies this good. Future of the nhl is looking great with all this talent.
I agree with you, and I mean no offence by this but your comment would be a lot easier to read with commas.
Also because bedard is significantly better don’t forget that

@@Borodin410 Blackhawks have 4 players with a 0 or better +/- and arguable the worst team the nhl has seen an extremely long time. His goal differential is not even close to his skill. Players like jones hand the puck to the opponent for a 2-0 many times. His stat is shit cause of the team. He gets lots of ice time cause he is the only one producing for the Blackhawks (until Kurashev recently). He is already in the top 75 players in points (top 10% of nhl). Thinking he is just an average player is just funny.
Bedard wasn't allowed to put any weight behind his shots for like 2 or 3 weeks
That is what I first noticed...it was one of the first goals he scored and the pass was wobbly and he was being defended and it was almost as if that puck is on a wire as sooon a s it got close and he got that shot off and it was in the net before I even turned my eyes that like 1 mm to see the puck in the Net! I think only Joe Sakic and Paul Kariya had shots I remember being that laser beam accurate. I wish the Hawks would stop the Reichel as #2C Experiment. The Kid is a Wing, and were wasting the Talent he has. Anyone see the pass he made falling last night? ANd the 23 Points in 15 games last season when this team was about as bad. And I would like to see what Hawks fans and hockey fans think of Korchinski's rookie season. Nobody thoiught he would make the team, then stay more thjan a few games, and now he has made strides in his game. Wasnt he the Top or one of the Top 3 Defenseman in his Draft? I like the channel, thoughts? And I am givin up explaining to even bad wagon hopping because of Bedard Fans just as I did when Kane and Toews and thoase teams began Smashing the entire League, that we have like a whole group of not necessarily Bedard God Status, but very very talented players a year away not counting this Draft. Have 2 in the top 20...and that first pick is gonna be #1-#3 (lol, I would have to just ask to be slapped if they end up drafting in lowest possible spot if the sharks dont lap them into last this time
Bedard probably benefited from the time off for injury. As you said, most rookies fall off under the full gring, but he got a break in the dog days of the season.

I'm a Hawks fan, but I'm not a person who's super deep in to all of the hockey leagues and prospects and so forth. When I kept hearing about Bedard before the draft I thought "oh man, I hope they're not OVER-hyping this kid." I can honestly say at this point, and it still feels crazy, that he's FAR out-played the hype. I didn't think there was any way that would be possible since he was hyped up so much. He's just a joy to watch.
I dont think most people understand just how seriously talented this kid is, or how dedicated he is to the sport. We havent seen anything from Bedard yet or even a fraction of what hes capable of. I dont think we've ever had as dominent of a rookie player as him with his level of confidence either. With the right linemate hes going to break records without even trying.
Your statements nothing but true, hard agree with this
In any other rookie class, Brock Faber wins the Calder. Faber has been a 10/10 when it comes to expectations. It's just unfortunate because Bedard has been one of the greatest rookies to ever play in the NHL, definitely at least a 12/10.

you're delusional lol cooley faber and bedard were all great runners, bedard just simply has the most coverage and media dick riding. I think they should factor in the age since faber had more time to develop an connor going into the NHL at 18 is very impressive. Even if Bedard has less points he should still win it based on his age. Imagine a 26 year-old KHL top player came in and win the rookie of the year over Bedard

It’s easy to pick Bedard because it was his to win and rightfully so. But if you take your head out of the sand and watch Faber and what he’s done on a not so strong team is pretty damn impressive. He plays the game the right way and on both sides of the puck. Bedard will win but it’s closer than people think. Not ALWAYS just about goals and assist.
It's certainly not always Gs and As but Faber isn't as dynamic and isn't the huge difference maker that Bedard is.
Sam Reinhart has 48 goals. Why do I feel like it’s not talk about, he’s lowkey slept on.
Faber being in the race was an astroturfed cope from Athletic writers because of his TOI and +/-.

There’s no question Zach Benson will win by unanimous vote. 😏
Faber only has like 20 primary points tho
it was over when the year started. Ridiculous
As long as Bedard puts up the most points, they were always going to give him the Calder. The amount of hype around him along with Karlsson winning the Norris last year suggests that the people voting on these awards don't care about defensive metrics at all. Also feels like they want to "right the wrong" of McDavid not winning the Calder due to missing games by giving it to Bedard even if hes missed 15-20 games.
He missed 14
His +/- is largely a team stat, though.
@@dsc4178+\- isn’t the only defensive metric
+/- is a general team stat, the impact that Bedard is having as an 18 year old on the worst/ 2nd worst team in the league while being almost a ppg player is unheard of. Last guy to be a ppg on a bottom 3 team would be…….. McDavid
Please go check out how many games McDavid missed vs how many Bedard missed.
I'll help out:
McDavid missed 37 games. Bedard missed, what, 14?
Kid is an offensive talent for sure. The stat everyone misses is that he’s a -40. So for all the goals he’s scored the other teams have scored that many more while he’s on the ice. If the Calder trophy was awarded to offensive rookie of the year he gets it hands down.
Mario was - 33 his rookie year lol. +/- is a product of being on a terrible team. Its a dumb stat that means nothing😊
+/- statline has way too much influence from the team as a whole than just bedsy. Throw Connor McDavid on the blackhawks and he'd be just as down as bedard
Using plus minus in 2024 is embarrassing lmfaoooo, go look at the teammates he has. Chicago is one of the worst teams in history and Bedard is playing at an 80 POINT PACE as a 18 year old.. just absolutely insane.
It’s almost like bedard is with a shitty team and barely has help
+/- was debunked many years ago as an individual stat.
It was over before he came back
Faber is 22
Even though I'm not a Blackhawks fan anymore, and I absolutely fucking hate the team I used to root for, I am really, really happy to see Bedard do what he's done. The overwhelming about of hatred that most of the league has for this kid who is barely out of high school has been so repugnant. I've seen countless posts all over Twitter and Reddit about how Bedard needs to suffer a career-ending injury, someone needs to take his knees out or crosscheck him in the back of the head, or how he's actually mid as fuck and has no talent but the media is hyping him up for profit. I can only hope that my former favorite team loses Bedard and he requests a trade to another team. But even if he doesn't, and he keeps playing for the Hawks, I'm glad he's been so successful even in his first year.
I think Faber will take it
You are right, it is all hype about Connor bernard. Check out the plus-minus stats. And you can say yeah Chicago's a week or team, but even on that team, the blackhawks, look at the plus-minus and where bodard is. And don't give me time on Ice excuses. I see him when he's in his d-zone and he's just a lost kid. Just another pretty boy playing for the cameras

❤💯✔️🏒🥅Bedard
Bedard on the worst team in the league. Way over hyped. Showcase all u want, actually watching him during a full game, he’s got potential at best.
I wonder if +/- factors into the Calder selection equation, at -37 Bedard is second to dead last in the entire league, he’s clearly a one-way player which statistically hurts his team when he’s on the ice.
+/- is a garbage stat that's more indicative of the team as a whole than the player. The fact that you're even mentioning it shows how little you know about hockey.
+/- is a relevant stat when compared to the rest of the team. Blocked shots is another stat that needs to be looked at team wise. Bedard is consistently at the bottom of his team's stat line in +/- and blocked shots. Yes Bedard is the best offensive Rookie, but he is not the best overall Rookie as he is pretty much 1 dimensional. He will have a huge sophomore slump next year when his coach asks him to actually play hockey.
didn't lemeiux have a -45 plug minus or something?
Just want to point out he’s first in +- stats ….. if you turn the stat sheet upside down
You discount Faber contributions because the Wild’s defensive statistics even though Faber’s stats are fabulous, yet you fail to discount Beddard’s credentials equally, when the Blackhawk’s offense and record are terrible. It’s an unfair evaluation and emphasized points. You must have loyalties to Chicago or Beddard.
So this might be controversial but I do think if a rookie misses at least half teh regular season due to injury he should be allowed eligibility for the Calder the next year because he didn't play a full season. Sort of like guys who play a stretch of games due to a regular player being injured but then the next year he is consider a official rookie.
You're all forgetting Pyotr Kochetkov. Dude is literally carrying his team to being a cup contender in his rookie year. Bedard can't claim that. I believe Kochetkov is the only rookie to be able to claim such an impact in his rookie year. If he was Canadian or played for the Leafs or something then he'd be all anyone talks about

Too bad his talent will be wasted on a team with no real future. He'll be well past his prime before The Hawks are contenders again. I think it's funny how Bedard plays with the most hyped up team since the Hawks were winning cups. He is scoring more goals and has more assists than the rest of the team but they sit in the bottom of the league and most likely will draw the fist pick. So score away and take that trophy young man. Then look for a team to win some games and make the playoffs maybe even win a cup.
Hawks have a bright future. Bedsie isn't going anywhere.
Yeah the Hawks suck, as was expected during what is a total tear down rebuild. That doesn't reflect on the brilliance of an 18 year old phenom playing with a cast of castoffs and still putting up the numbers he is. But, it's OK for some people to be bitter about it.
