I work at Subway. Our bread dough starts in the freezer. Then it goes into the refridgerator. In the refridgerator we have a metal box with shelves made for holding pans of frozen dough so that the dough can thaw out before cooking. This box is called the Retarder. There are instructions taped to the door explaining how the retarder works. I laughed really hard when I got to the part where it said "if you leave the dough in there for too long the dough gets too retarded".
I also work at Subway, a couple months ago one of the other guys told me to wait till later in the day to pull bread for the next day because the manager said it was getting “too effin’ retarded.” I couldn’t stop laughing for five minutes
'Retard' means to slow a process. Therefore, a retarder is an apparatus that slows a process. You see them on engines or mechanical devices. A transmission retarder slows the vehicle down, much the same way an exhaust retarder (Jake brake) is used to slow a vehicle down. The word retard was originally used for people with Down's Syndrome or other genetic conditions that slowed and/or stifled cognitive improvement. Then the 80s happened and it became a pejorative. So, just like fat or ugly, we stopped using it because obviously if you stop using a word the condition ceases to exist.
I am literally watching this while wearing a t-shirt with a quote from George: "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups". Love your reactions to Carlin.
Younger people probably won't get the reference when he says "information became directory assistance". In the pre-interwebs/pre-mobile era you either had to consult the white/yellow pages, or you could call a specific number for information to get a phone number for someone else.
What is even worse is that people have squeezed even more humanity out of the combat condition. Modern language abbreviates everything. Now most people don't even call it post-traumatic stress disorder, just PTSD. And it has gotten so prevalent that people toss out the term to describe any feeling of discomfort. PTSD...soft language. 😢 It gets worse every day.
George is the GOAT of stand-up. He'd rip these snowflakes a new a-hole. Thank goodness for Dave Chappelle, Bill Burr, and a few others for not caring what people think about them.

This was her taking pride in the fact that everyone who would guess her age (she eventually started asking everyone she struck up a conversation with to guess) thought she was in her 50s or even her 40s.
Love Carlin. People should have listened to him a long time ago. I’ve learned that if I am going to say something on a public platform and it’s an “ooga booga” comment, I will own it and all the stupidity that follows with it. What’s the point of not being truthful about what you say online? Either offend none and offend everyone in the process or offend everyone and not offend everyone at the same time, therefore creating a paradox that will inadvertently affect the entire internet and society bringing back towards the uncircumcised times known as the 1990s and 2000s - but we all stay the same ages and have the same knowledge, digital divinity at work when that happens.

The "R" word used to be the politically correct word. To say that someone was mentally R-word was once the soft language that Carlin was talking about. It was adopted to avoid words like "moron", "imbecile" and "idiot". In 1910, the Association of Medical Officers of American Institutions for Idiotic and Feeble-Minded Persons adopted three classifications of people we know today as intellectually disabled, as defined by a newly invented way to measure intelligence we now call the IQ test. “Morons” were the most intelligent - they had IQs between 50 and 70. “Imbeciles” with IQs between 25 and 50 were the second level. Those below 25 would remain “idiots.”
