      Thing is... It's actually ok to have an older teen Cassie who is being rebellious and is kinda over her dad being a hero. Lots of teens go through that, and it would make Scott feel like he has lost his daughter. Especially with her being tiresomely political, and maybe feeling that "heros" are don't do the hard work to help people who have normal problems.
      But then the movie would be about them coming back together, and her realizing that no-one can solve every problem and that she can do her own part while loving her dad.
      Boom, simples.

    • @TheNemesis432
      @TheNemesis432 Před 9 měsíci +462

      @@lostalone9320 No. This just doesn't work. It's ok to have a rebellious teen in a typical household, but after being traumatized by her dad "death" she should've just skipped her phase altogether. If anything she should be horrified at the prospect of losing him again and she wouldn't want neither him, nor herself to do anything with "superhero" business.
      It could've been a really good story about juggling responsibility to society and to your loved ones and story was basically writing itself with all parallels you could draw from real life (policemen, firefighters, soldiers) as well as continuity (Hank relationship with Hope and Janet's "death"), but nah, fuck that we're in Phase 4... I mean 5 now, every female superhero has to be a cunt now and every male superhero has to be a moron.

      I agree that some change in their relationship is needed, but not that. That'd only work in a normal household. More fitting conflict could be Cassie also trying to be a hero but failing first, or Scott and others becoming overprotective due to the trauma, or even too lax, thinking that theyve done their part already, yet an idealistic Cassie would encourage them to do more. That's what they kinda intented to do. At least I hope.

    The replacing of Emma Fuhrmann bothers me. Not only because of the way it was done, but also because she had INSANE chemistry with Paul Rudd. From the second she opened that door in Endgame, it felt like you were actually watching a father shocked at seeing what he thought was his barely teenage daughter be a young adult, and a young adult woman who presumed her father dead suddenly seeing him on their doorstep. It was honestly the best part of that movie for me. And Emma was superbly cast. She was sooo much better than the new girl who can't act for shit, has no chemistry with Rudd, and is just an annoying brat.

      Honestly, the actor herself isn't piss poor since I've seen her acting in other stuff pretty good it just seems like the character she's playing is someone she cannot play the same as the ones that came before her. Kathryn doesn't seem to work well with characters like Cassie since she never gives out the same vibe or energy that the other actors have like Emma
      Kathryn isn't a shit actor, she was given a character she cannot play the same way that Emma could since she doesn't have the same connection to Paul Rudd that Emma does which is why she doesn't have the same familial connection
      But this is entirely my views and I might be entirely wrong

      @@Archiver_Studio You may be right. I haven't seen her other works. But she did really poorly on Quantumania. It's not just her chemistry with Rudd. There's a short scene where they're falling into the Quantum Realm and her acting while screaming for her dad in panic is just atrocious. Literally anyone off the street could sell it better than she did.
      It's also ironic how she's older than Emma IRL. So casting her because of age is just stupid. It's like they saw they made a mature, kind, responsible young lady in Endgame, and thought "Nah, we can't do that. Women should be bitchy criminals with daddy issues."

      And if you think I'm kidding there's a comic book called Marvel's Spotlight: Captain America. In a black teenage boy isn't happy that his neighborhood isn't cleaned up fast enough after some supervillain shenanigans so he does what any reasonable person would do: becomes a scientist for Hydra. At the end of the story he gets to tell _Captain freaking America_ about how being a real hero means doing construction work in poor neighborhoods. I think there should be a rule that you don't get to act morally superior to anyone for at least a month after you joined a fascist totalitarian terrorist organization.

      perfect example of how comedy is being used as a crutch to make people like things. and it's not even working.
      people get so hooked on sitcoms because they're relatable and funny. you're crying by the end of the show because you've gotten to know these funny people like they're your friends and you won't be seeing them again.
      naturally, people then start to think that comedy is a quick way to make a character or thing likeable. If the audience is laughing, then they enjoy themselves, and then they think the movie is good.
      comedy in Thor Ragnarok elevated the movie. it brought a great new interpretation to Thor and humanised him whilst also characterising him as a fish out of water in the ways that were necessary. he was for the majority of the movie and is for the majority of his story. that's why it's good.
      in Love and Thunder, he is the joke. and so is everything. Jane dealing with fucking cancer, and the actual fucking god of thunder having to respond to that, is a chance at some of the most beautiful storytelling. and there is a really great scene at some point. but it's all built on jokes and making a laughing stock of everyone and everything that you stop caring, or you're just so exhausted by lacklustre attempts at humour that the watch experience is just draining.
      GOTG3 balanced humour incredibly well. after a certain point, there was little to no comedy whatsoever. comedy came in moments of pause rather than the movie pausing for comedy. Drax didn't do a funny quip to the High Evolutionary as his face was revealed. Quill was allowed to feel anger towards new-Gamora and hate towards HE. there was no comedy towards saving Rocket, nor about Rocket's backstory. that's why it's so powerful. and we like these characters especially more because the comedy throughout the trilogy was well placed. I'd argue it got a bit much in GOTG2, but that's besides the point. the 3rd movie did it very well.
      MODOK's death was fucking vile. I felt awful. it felt so wrong. he sacrificed himself and despite all the other shit I felt they'd earned a death scene for the character's to grow from. the bit of him being an Avenger is so uncalled for and just dumb. one of the worst scenes in the movie.

    The concept of turning MODOK into a joke character made him dead on arrival.
    On paper, consolidating his backstory with Darren’s isn’t terrible (especially with not much done with AIM in the MCU). But he was much more of a terrifying body horror creature in the comics. This movie uses his appearance exclusively for jokes.
    They gave him a clichéd MCU breakaway face mask to boot, which is more in line with how MODOK should look.
    Bringing Darren back and creating MODOK just to kill him in one film felt more like a checking off boxes of what to adapt rather than doing it in any meaningful sort of way.

      Exactly. There was plenty of room for body horror upon his introduction. Have Hank be like “Darren… oh Darren, what have you done??”

But then it turns out it was just given to her for a science project, and Hank is just fine with the fact that she's getting arrested for no reason? It might look a little cool, but it completely loses any feeling of weight, power, or any grounding in believable tech. I mean, the MK I and II iron man suits looked almost achievable by today's tech. The nanotech suit might as well be magic.
    This probably isn't a particularly hit take, but I'm just happy to say it.

    • @TOONYBOY
      @TOONYBOY Před 5 měsíci +10

      I liked it in Infinity War with Tony and Peter's suits because it still took a few seconds to actually materialize around them and it actually added a new element to the fights with how part of the suit could get damaged and they could rebuild the damaged components with a limited supply of nanobots. They could still run out of nanobots, in which case they'd have to redistribute the nanobots from one part of the suit to whatever they need at the time (like Tony materialize a sword by taking the nanobots from his leg or Peter stopping Doc Ock's arm blade) which meant they could still be beaten, but it still reflected the technological achievement of Tony Stark.
      Now, so many characters have the nanotech suits (which I guess kind of makes sense to share technology with the same team, especially with Wakanda opening up), but the nanotech suits here in Ant Man take all the interesting new elements and visual flair I just mentioned and just ignore it. Scott and Hope literally bop a button on their chest and in a split-second they have a fully formed suit all around them. Not only that, but it doesn't seem to actually function like the nanotech suits Tony has, where you believe they're actually made from millions of nano-sized robots that Tony can control to do whatever he wants. Now they're just a convenient button that allows them to show the actors' faces for as long as possible but also not having to worry about leaving the suit in a previous location or something. They can just walk around in normal clothing for the whole movie, but then when it's action time they can just push a button and a clearly-not-nanotech nanotech suit just appears on them. They don't have any cool tools or weapons and the nanotech doesn't allow them to do anything. It exclusively functions as a get out of jail free card for the writers

Yes, looking out for the little guy typically means helping those weaker or less fortunate than you, but Scott's book would be riffing on that, because he's literally a little guy and yet he saves the world. So in the context of Cassie's speech, she should've been saying they are ALL the little guys, and Kang has to watch out for them. I would listen to it as well just cause i'd be proud to have reached this point.

    I love those moments in the first Ant Man where Hank ends the argument on Hope wearing the suit by yelling "NO!". You can hear the fear and desperation in his voice when he snaps like that and you immediately understand how important it is to him that Hope is safe. That's the point when Scott realizes why he's the one wearing the suit, and the chad uses that knowledge to reassure Hope and to help her rebuild her relationship with her father by defending him in a way that she hadn't thought about. Honestly, this is actually interesting to look back on when you think about his relationship with his own daughter and that's all he wants to have with Cassie. Then you have the scene later in the film where Hank tells Hope about her mother, and I love that scene of Hope tearing up where she does a little nod when Hank says he was trying to protect her. There's no "You had no right!" or "that wasn't your decision to make!" bullshit, there's the silent acknowledgement from Hope that she understands why Hank did it and she still loves him.

    In regards to the dinner scene and everyone having a go at Scott for his "ego", I don't think writers these days (with how bloody often they make this kind of thing happen) realize how fucking insane saving the world (try the entire universe) is as an achievement. Actually try and picture something like this happening in real life, where an incredibly powerful alien lifeform removes half of all life on earth. This could be your family, your friends, or even yourself. Then picture that one individual manages to bring everyone this alien killed back to life and defeat him. He's prevented this alien from destroying the rest of everyone else on earth and he's restored everyone we lost.

      Like, how many times do we have to see a clip from the behind the scenes of these movies where the writer/director says something like this before this company pulls its finger out of it's ass. "Oh yeah, that's definitely me just not knowing what to do with the script. When I was writing the script, there were already sets being made (meaning he had to write a script mere days before filming and all he had time for was to get the characters in certain rooms for your scheduled fight scenes). We're in the second act, something's gotta happen (giggling) what should it be?" You also have stuff like in this movie where Bill Murray says "He's making it up as he goes along".

    • @trianglemoebius
      @trianglemoebius Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@Liberty_or_Ded No, but the conditions that led to the writer's strike have, and those conditions are what results in shit like this. Good stories are written by people who want to tell them, and the writers being forced to slave away for far-too-low pay while out-of-touch executives and soulless focus groups hold the power to add/remove entire sections to their work based on "what will sell best"... well, those circumstances don't lead to anything productive to people being invested in their work.
      The absolute best case scenario is the writers win the strike. These stories lack creativity because they aren't being made by passionate creatives, and the sooner we get stories that ARE, the sooner we get quality cinema again.

    Wow... I honestly didn't remember Cassie and Darren had that little scene about him being a monster in the first movie. Imagine being paid to write this and not taking advantage of that prior scene. You could give Cassie some much needed humanity by having her show sympathy for this dying man and call back to a previous movie by having her say something along the lines of, "I never answered your question back then. You're not a monster Darren." Using his real name here and showing him genuine compassion, maybe even laying a land on his 'shoulder'. I honestly dislike this writer so much hearing how he speaks of this character. Like, I honestly think he is probably a piece of shit in real life if this movies moral compass is anything to go by.

Now I'm not even looking forward to that, as Marvel has made it clear that it won't actually be a Thunderbolts movie; it'll be a bad Suicide Squad knockoff.
