Avengers: Infinity War: An Unbridled Praise

  • So, I figured since I make a lot of content that is negative about film, I had an idea to try and create a sister series to my Unbridled Rages.
    The idea is to try and praise the film for the things I thought were great while leaving the flaws out of the analysis, basically the complete inverse of what you often see on the channel.
    I will pick this back up with other films if you guys enjoy it, I really tried to nail the editing and the script though I wanted to get it out quick to cover the topic.
    Marvel really did pull something amazing off here, a flawed series but an unprecedented one none the less.
    Let me know how you feel about the video o/

    Everybody found Thor calling Groot “Tree” funny because it makes Thor look stupid since Groot constantly says his name.

    The most gut wrenching part of Spiderman's death is that, for the most part, nobody is aware they are about to turn to dust. It's sudden, painless and inevitable, but Peter, because of his Spider sense, is fully aware he is going to die, unlike everybody else, his legs fail not due to injury but the incredible fear of the premonition of his death

      There isn't anything wrong with Fat Thor as a concept, the issue is that it was played as a joke instead of taken seriously. A Thor who has given up after losing everything and even feeling like he was the one person who had the highest chance of success is *good.* It's a genuinely good idea for the way to push him. The issue is that every time he's on screen he's being used as the setup to a punchline. Fat Thor shouldn't be funny, he should be *sad.* It should be heartbreaking whenever he's on screen, trying to stay detached because he feels like he failed everyone. Korg and Meek shouldn't even be gaming in his house. Korg should be more like the friend that actively checks on him to make sure he's at least hasn't hurt himself.
      It's the same with Professor Hulk - we should have gotten a short scene showing him forcefully merging himself with Hulk. And he should have been a lot more of a serious character, still prone to some degree of rage. Literally the only time we see that anger come out of him is when he chucks a bench into the lake out of anger over Black Widow's death as well as his friends arguing over it. If there was a time to give him more good screentime it was during the last fight.

    • @maddlarkin
      @maddlarkin Před rokem +17

      @@ApexGale The problem with fat Thor agreed is fundamentally one of execution, but the premise itself is questionable I'm equally not sure that a reclusive boarder line self harming Thor would of worked either although I understand the premise far more than turning him into a joke. But to me both feel out of character with the guy who walked away from Thanos corpse muttering, 'I went for the head' that's far more a man who has decided mercy is a weakness and gone down a vengeful reckless path. I can see why they didn't, it's very similar to Clints arc but they could of executed it very differently, Thor becoming a militaristic and ruthless king, obsessed with the preservation of his remaining people above all else, after all did Norway willingly accept the Asgardians or did the god of Thunder simply give them no choice.
      I had less issue with Professor Hulk cop-out though it was, since it swept Hulk hiding in Banner under the rug and just sort of handwaved it, but I can sort of understand it, the handwaving does save a fair bit of time on convincing Hulk to cooperate with the 2nd snap and actually making it work as planned. But doing it all off screen is a bit cheap. My real issue with Hulk is far more Infinity war having him take one beating and hiding in Banner, a personification of rage, hiding... that's really out of character, Hulk becoming more aggressive, less controllable and nearer the surface seems far more in character and would also of provided a better motivation for Banner to merge the two into Professor Hulk as his last option to try and control the monster

    I'm 49....and i still remember how I felt while sitting in a theater at the end of Empire Strikes Back. It was a feeling of real loss, a feeling that my heroes aren't always perfect, and that sometimes...the bad guys win....that not all heroes are capable of saving the day.
    This was the first film since then that I felt that way again. I can't say enough about how awesome this movie is...I've now watched it at least 30 times, and It STILL slaps for me. That scene between Tony and Peter STILL connects, the love between Gamora and Thanos, Gamora and Quill or the despair that Dr Strange feels when he knows the End Game and gives up the stone so Tony can later save the world and put his ego on hold long enough to sacrifice everything to save the universe and bring everyone back, while simultaneously killing himself. When I thought about this, when Endgame released, I came to the conclusion that he was 100% sure that when they died they were already in the right course, as everything past that point couldn't be altered by his actions anymore. The only thing he could screw up past that point was potentially not finding everyone or not managing to remember Tony about that one chance thing. (Coming to think about it, it's still pretty easy to fuck everything to the hell lol).
      So I thought, rather than going mad, he should be relieved when it happened. Actually, I thought he was supposed to be nervous when they were fighting against Thanos before that, as it was a more immediate concern and the slightest mistake would certainly screw everything. He never really gives us a reason to fear him, he just sort of has these emotional breakdowns and maybe that turns into a moment where he breaks something, Hell he never even killed Commander Hux when he had a chance. The plot where he could have been a good guy crying for help is now out the window as of right now unless EP 9 pulls something out of it's ass and when he does "officially" become the Villain he didn't do anything besides get japed by Luke hard and has a sad moment about being truely alone.
      Yeah he killed Han and some nameless people but that's about it.
      Thanos on the other hand is somebody who would make me shit myself.
      We get to see the damage he does to characters we've grown attached too, we've seen his skill and his raw motivation. He's not someone to take lightly at all and he will not let others stand in his way. This in my opinion is how you write a good villain, Give us a reason to fear the villain and the desire to see him stopped.

    The complete contrast with Disney Star Wars, revealed heavily in your editing, is that Infinity wars has *absolute* respect and integration with the lore and world building that came before it. It really is the true spiritual capstone to the entire MCU (up to this point) *without* taking any cheap shortcuts or retcons. It doesn't just avoid retcons, it doesn't just recall minor details from the former movies, but even amplifies their meaning and significance. It's sincere, authentic, and beautiful.

The Sakaar Contest of Champions was based on Planet Hulk, it turned Thor from your average B list superhero into one of the most well received, there are plenty of callbacks to _The Incredible Hulk_ (2008) even if very few people would get them, and it revitalized the character of Thor for Chris Hemsworth.
      Chris specifically said that despite his contract with Marvel ending, he'd be more than happy to play Thor in _Love and Thunder_ based on the new life Taika breathed into him. To me, that shows not only a remarkable amount of respect for the character but also the actor.

Star Lord was unwilling to complete the mission and get the glove off without finding out what happened to Gamorra and failed. Thor was unwilling to make a deathblow so he could gloat at his revenge and failed. Thanos on the other hand was willing to do whatever it takes including kill the only thing he loved and won.

      We will have to wait and see how things play out in the next one. No doubt the heroes wanted to do the right thing and that may not have been the right thing. They didn't want to sacrifice and they paid a price for it in the end. Thanos did horrible things, killed a lot of people just to get the stones, and was willing to sacrifice for his goals.
      But could also say the biggest issue was a lack of unity. The Avengers were scattered. Sure they sort of came together, but only after Tony was off in space. There was a need for everyone who could stand together to do so. But they lacked a unified will. Thanos had that focused will and everyone serving him shared that unified will.

If they had only been willing to act, knowing they'd save many more lives by sacrificing the one, they could've been victorious. It's the selfish part of love that I didn't like and really revealed their weakness. It's unfortunate but that is what war is. Putting the lives of the many over the few, otherwise everyone dies anyway. The good guys blew it repeatedly in favor of their feelings.

    This was a truly amazing film. One thing I always thought was interesting is regarding Thanos's character -- he could have just doubled the universe's resources. But instead, he chose to half the population, which ultimately ended in his failure. This makes a fascinating and important point about the difference between hero and villain. A hero gives; a villain takes. Instead of giving, as a hero would, he decided to take. If he had simply made the choice of doubling the resources, he would have become the greatest hero the universe had ever known. A man who seeks the ultimate power only to give back to others and risk his own life in the process. Instead, he became it's greatest villain.

      Doubling the resources wouldn’t have solved anything. Populations would get even bigger and more greedy. Halving the population taught them a lesson. That’s the point that you completely missed.

      @@burner9826 By cutting the population in half Thanos ensured the deaths of many, many more. Half of the airplanes in flight are now wrecks. Half of the ships sailing now have no captain. Half of the cars being driven now have no drivers and thus result in more deaths. Half of the farmers who produce your food resource are now gone. Half of the people who operate power plants are now gone.
      That’s not counting the other forms of life we’ve seen occurring in the MCU. Thanos saw resources as finite and decided to instead remove the part that was technically infinite, but he didn’t consider the lasting effects of his choice. Doubling the resources would have saved not only PEOPLE, but it also would have prevented a war between himself and the Avengers.

    • @edenmckinley3472
      @edenmckinley3472 Před rokem +3

      @@burner9826 I think the point a lot of people miss when defending Thanos is the fact that genocide is not okay. Thanos didn't pick out the selfish, evil, wasteful people in every population. He killed at random, which means he killed millions upon millions of starving children and innocent people who did nothing to deserve it. That's just going to mentally traumatize the innocent people who are left and allow the leftover evil people to get away with even more. Thanos didn't do anything productive by halving the universe's population. Maybe it was good for the organisms who couldn't feel emotion, but for human beings, you literally couldn't have done anything that would make our species more suicidal. At least with multiplying the resources, it would have given people the choice to do better. If all else fails, he could've gone to every planet with intelligent lifeforms and declared himself a god, saying that he was going to double their resources, but they had to use these resources carefully and productively. If they did not, he would come back and take away all that he had given them and all that they had before, as well as half the population. That way, the people would be given a chance, as well as the punishment of being left to die with no resources and all their loved ones dead.

      @@burner9826 as if everyone would suddenly realize "oh damn I gotta watch resource usage now" when half of the population is suddenly gone. People would take their chance, "get greedy." The black death killing abt 1/3 of Europe didn't prevent the colonial empires conquering the world in later centuries.

As it is fairly clear that for all his convictions that "this is the only way" that he didn't look all that hard for alternatives like for example creating more resources, fixing the environment of the planets with in the universe that his solution is a bad aid not a cast. It's clear that Thanos has convinced himself that he and he alone is correct that he and he alone has the will to carry this out. That like all Villans save perhaps the self aware ones he believes himself the hero of his own story.

      Pistol Pete so your solution is for the hero's to become murders and not even try to find other ways to stop Thanos other than letting the people they care about be killed or mutilated. To become the very thing they hate and fight against. That's not a solution. Because that's the very thing Thanos dose to spread his solution. Thanos believes what he is doing is right, that it is a ugly horrible thing that needs doing. But not once not once has he consided that there are better options. He gave up looking /trying to find a better way. If he ever looked in the first place. The hero's have refused to walk that path. To allow suffering and carnage to be their first port of call. They chose to do the right thing. And they failed, but is it not better to fail while trying to do the right thing rather that success at doing the wrong thing? For Wanda to kill the man she loves ? For Gamra to watch her sister be mutilated again after a life time of turning a blind eye and not considering Nova's well being?
