Nice! 2 Cans of Black RustOleum Anti UV on all Pieces before assembly. Then a Coat of Clear Matte Anti UV. While it's not needed, I'd plug up all the tube holes either with plastic black tape, or plastic plugs. Yeah, Rap Bedliner turns it into a $500 Rack for about $120 total! Great Video!
These cheap-o Baskets are great value wise. Though if anyone is deciding on purchasing them you will want to Rust proof the entire unit. Screws and the frame itself. Using a sealant on/in the screw holes is an added bonus if you don't plan on taking the unit apart much. Just a heads up.
I just bought one of the 84" versions of this rack, and I think the entire neighborhood heard me as I struggled with assembling this disaster. Between missing parts, misplaced holes, parts that would not fit and needing a ratcheting tow strap to pull it together to get the "slide in" attaching points to fit together, I pretty well turned the air blue for several blocks around (be sure the kids' tinder ears are not around when trying to build this junk). I had to use different bolts in several points as the ones supplied would not fit (holes were either in the wrong places or the threads were not correctly made and bolts would not tighten), and the bolts are made with such cheap metal that if you do manage to get the supplied hex wrench to put them in, the wrench strips the heads as you tighten them so the bolts can never be removed again. The 84"x 39" dimensions listed on Amazon are not the actual sizes (closer to 79" x 37") due to the steep angle of the front which makes the forward 6" or so useless. I managed to dent the bars on the rear trying to use a mallet to drive the "slide in" joints together, then figured out you need a ratchet tow strap to do the job, so be sure you have one available. To fit the extension section in you have to first press the left and right sides of each into each other, then press two connecting shafts, and 4 endcap sets in all at the same time, and hope the holes line up to bolt it in (which they won't do). When putting in the flat side supports in make sure you do NOT tighten the bolts until you have them all in place as they don't fit very well and I even had 3 of the holes not fit at all (had to use metal screws instead of the provided bolts). All in all it took about 90 minutes to assemble this beast with a lot of tugging, pounding, and swearing along the way.
Do yourself favor & save your cargo from being stuck and poked from those knobs & threads on the U-bolts. Turn them upside down, with the U-bolts inside the rack & the knobs (or as I chose, nylon aviation nuts) on the bottom. Same strength, same system. Since the metal bracket is now below you factory cross bars instead, the only thing inside the rack is the flat end of the U-bolts. And that isn't even as tall as the tubes running from front to back. Oops, sorry...I forgot to tell you "GREAT VIDEO"
I got the same one for about 6 months and later got stolen. My car was damaged when they removed it. Didn't see that coming considering how cheap I bought it for. Make sure to find a way to lock it up.
RatanakTevy that’s a bummer, but you’re right this is a pretty easy rack to steal if you are familiar with them. Have to work that out for a good way to secure it from scum bag thieves.
Hi...what distance 'crossbar' spacing did you use to accommodate this '64? i'm thinking about getting one for my Honda Odyssey. just got my crossbars few days ago ( only had the Rails) so...hopefully i can get enough spacing and use the 'long boy' here. lol! thanks! looks great!
It strikes me as poor design that the bolts attaching to the roof rack protrude up and can snag suitcases or whatever. Maybe cut them off? But then the treads get buggered up unless you have a re-threader.
MesserAaron13 with them flipped the correct way the ubolts would hit the top of the car. I didn’t want to chance scratching up the car. I have it off now and looking to shorten the ubolts to mount it correctly.
Mike Hawk it’s not huge but a good size. It does not hang over the sunroof and doesn’t get on the way of the rear lift gate. Again this is on a Chevy Tahoe.

Kanda' Eirsie good tips! Thx
Got mine for $90 on e-Bay seal the joints with Permatex ultra black and sand it down and shoot some Raptor bedliner on it . Your welcome !

What would you suggest rust proofing them with? A can of rustoleum rust preventer or something else?
I think a can of black spray paint wood work keep the rust out
Thanks for showing how this is done. I was thinking of getting one for my suburu so this helps alot

Good review. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the review... how has this held up over the years??

who'd have thought. if someone does that to mine (i'm putting together today) i'll catch their lovely face on camera. #dash cam coverage
Gorilla Glue you're welcome
waiting on my 64 to be delivered. I'm installing it on my 2021 4Runner. Thanks for the tips.
Why doesnt anyone flip the bolts around? The one that hold the basket to the rack, that way they dont point up, instead they point towards the roof
They should be turned down
How’s it holding up?

your bolts are upside down, yes?
dcheever07 the ones on the carrier bracket yes.. clearance to the roof was to close for me.
I would think that the screws should point Donne if u plan to carry anything as is they will puncture whatever u put on your rack
I did a video in this myself, and that's what the instructions tell you to do. It's so weird I know.
Thx Brother ✊
Arksen sent me the same model with some upgrades in mar 2019 to fix your corrosion point outs
firesupport that’s good to hear! Thx for sharing.
Is the rack a 64x39 or 64x50?
Looks Damn Good!
Rene Lara thanks!
You didn’t explain the hardware where all the bolts go 🤷🏾♂️
Why didn’t you use the spacers on the fairing?
Spacers on the fairing? Not sure what you mean. This was a while ago when I made this.

I think one solution to this I've heard is to flip the screws upside down. Going to test it out
Any updates? Is it holding up? Did it rust?
eric C check my update video then I will do another after some winter abuse.
Cars Kids and Coffee just did thank you
Bed liner helps the rusting issue. Took me a good three cans. I'd get four to be sure.
Threw sum pvc pieces in between those gaps n in the middle where it’s weak thnk me later n paint them black to match
Your brackets are upside down btw

@@rightorwrong9412 I assumed that why you did it but was informing you just in case
MesserAaron13 all good I really didn’t address it so completely understandable.
How's the rack this far, I just picked one up
@@rightorwrong9412 did the flip and resizing work?
How is this holding up ??
weilki451 check my next video up date. Will do another after some winter abuse.
That looks really small...

Did not even show the windshield fairing attachment. Not too detailed
