What amazes me is that English is not even your native language. Still, you master it so well. I teach English and I sometimes find myself in the situation in which I have to check the way we say certain word, almost every day. The way you explain it is out of this world. Really good job!
czcams.com/channels/IDxKvkSZkhiiYINBlLzPHQ.html
I agree. His level is asome and the way to explain is perfect and very useful. I'm in LOVE with these shorts
English may not be his mother tongue, but there is something he doesn't fully explain, there is something fishy going on in his story.
He wants to pretend that he learned English on his own, just by watching movies, videos or exploring online bibliography and other things. But the truth is that English is a language that cannot be learned natively without having been in the United States for quite some time. This is where I think he is lying; to me he was living or at least spending a lot of time in summer camps in the United States to be able to learn English in the way he speaks it.
I can tell by his accent. Do you know what country he's from?
@@therapturedmichelle He's Italian
Hello Antonio, I am learning so much from you in few videos than I did from many years of "formal" English classes. You're helping me to understand how the right enunciation makes the difference between good and wrong way to speak English. Thanks again 💯
Why didn't I have a professor like Antonio? I love the way he explains. His pronunciation of the words is so beautiful ❤️ ❤️❤️
I am a native American English speaker, and even though I was born and raised in the deep South, I don't have a strong accent compared to most people "from around here". (Unless I'm working at my retail job... then I use my customer service voice 🤣.) Pronunciation among native English speakers is often appalling! I'm fascinated by your ability to pronounce words properly and without a hint of your native Italian, and especially your talent for teaching others in only a few seconds! If English were taught to American students the way you are helping non-native speakers, everyone would benefit! Excellent!
I really admire the way that you dictate your words and and the fact that you're helping people not only people in our country that don't quite know how to say some words, but also non natives. I totally love it your teaching style is amazing. I wish any of my teachers in school taught the way you do.
Thas true mami
It's really interesting bro , i am learning more from you .you are absolutely doing great, keep up the good work and keep posting more videos ..

Great video! I am a native English speaker and I just want to mention that there is a difference in spelling between desert (the very hot, dry sandy place) and dessert (cake & other delights). You did a great job demonstrating the difference in pronunciation but it might help the students to see also that one has two "s"s and the other has only one "s".
I remember being taught in 5th grade... Would you rather 2 deserts or 2 desserts? THAT's how you remember which one has the 2 "s"s!

I agree with most except talk we do say the L. Otherwise someone might think you asking for a torque which is a (car wrench).
Want to have your mind blown? Look up "just deserts" and why it isn't spelled "desserts."
You nailed it! I am sharing this videos with my students. Well done!! In addition to the words you explained, they always have problems with the pronuntiation of words like reliable, retail, enough, thousand, improvement, management, etc. Thank you!😊
Give it a try 😉: I'm very confortable to talk about this national genre in this nation and I'm not such a psycho to call a colonel with a sword to defend women in this country, anyway i'll puchase a steak and a dessert after the exam. This should correct how we pronouce and our pronunciation.
haha this was great
I’m extremely comfortable and proud to be able to talk about this national genre of this nation.
Therefore I am not a psycho for calling up a colonel carrying a sword, to defend women in our country.
Hi! I’ll purchase a steak and a dessert! I just finished my exams.
I like your pronunciation!

Nice job! I once had an argument with a person who mispronounced salmon. I told her that the L in salmon is silent. She finally admitted I was right several months after several anglophone persons had corrected her pronunciation.
I, too, must thank you. I never fully understood how complicated English is. Your video brings passion to my understanding of new speakers of English. Thanks again...

Thanks, Antonio. My native language is Portuguese. I totally did relate to the topic. Thankfully the only new one for me was "purchase". Corrected pronunciation added successfully.👍🏼 BTW your English is amazing.. Keep up the good work!
Hi Antonio, I just found this video, and it blew my mind. You are an amazing teacher! My native language is Spanish, so it's hard for me to pronounce some words. Thank you for your help! I really appreciate it.
You are amazing Antonio. I speak more then 10 languages and found English language not so easy (lots of synonyms.) I subscribed to your channel. Thank you, I enjoy your videos and learning more. 🙏

I am amazed by English courses that promise you will learn english in 3 months. It is a lot more complex than we can imagine. Thanks Antonio.
I grew up in a small town and almost 40 years later I have just realized how good of an English teacher we had and I am thankful. Genre was the only word I was mispronouncing.
Antonio Thank you for providing educational opportunities for us to learn English fluently around the world ✨🌹💖
Love seeing this. I was a teacher and took a course on the pronunciation of the English words. She sowed us how to word was originally pronounced and how we changed the pronunciation over time. Very interesting.

Yet the pronunciation of the words being used is more Australian-based than English based
As the words are pronounced as middle class Australian accent, not upper class Australian in my opinion
Thanks so much Antonio. You are an amazing teacher! I was miss pronouncing lots of words and was sure that I know how to pronounce them very well, sometimes even trying to correct those we were instead pronouncing them well😁 words such as country, women, pronunciation and genre.
You did an amazing job with these words. These are frequently mispronounced by native speakers, particularly when reading out loud. Kudos!

I know Native English so don't need to your awesome teachings but literally found you're video by accident and followed because you're so good! Really good job!! I bet you're helping a lot of people. I will definitely share with family learning English 😊
I think you made an overstatement. Your whole sentence is full of grammatical errors- 'so don't need to your awesome teachings' makes no sense, at least remove 'to'. It would be 'your video' not 'you're video' because that would mean 'you are video'. I don't usually make it my job to correct people but you definitely overstepped your limits.
I love your videos, I used to live in Oregon and I have been away from the US for a while now so my English is going down, watching your videos help me not to forget the pronunciation of some words ❤️ I am proud I actually got all these right 💪 Thank you!
I've just discovered your videos and they are absolutely great.

Got 15 out of 15, but this "colonel" only because I listen to a lot of military movies and have acquired it automatically. A great lesson. Your pronunciation is just perfect.
Keep going dont stop this series it's extremely useful
I so appreciate these tutorials. I speak American as a native of the USA, but I find these so helpful in getting my English on track 😊.
You do not speak 'American'. You speak American English, a version of English like many others such as Australian English, South African English etc. that can differ in some ways from British English.
Hi ! i am a writer and thank you for pronouncing "genre" . I see it all the time but to hear if pronounced ? Hardly ever. Thank you and you are a great teacher. :) And yes, English is NOT easy. We have multiple meanings for one word. So whomever said it was easy, was full of it. :/ Thank you for being patient to teach. :)
And the way one pronounces words varies from region to region also varies…in WI, we are very nasally. The “baaaaaag” Vs B-AH-G…its quite fascinating..and very annoying to try and figure it all out 🤣
Whoever said, not whomever said.
And it is correcTly and the T needs to be pronounced.
You are amazing Antonio! Thank you for doing such effort in your video making!
Thanks Antonio! God bless you!
It’s amazing! I adore your pronunciation and explanation! Thanks so much!
Colonel! No way! When you pronounced it and I heard it in the clips, I couldn't believe it. I really didn't know . And I found out that I used to mispronounce "pronunciation" as well. Your tip about it is really useful. Lots of interesting material. Thanks a lot. Grande Antonio

I was pronouncing "colonel" correctly until I was in college. I didn't know what happened. Thanks so much, Antonio!!!
One more word that I used to mispronounce was 'behind".
The best way to learn English is to learn it phonetically. Whole language doesn't give learners the ability to learn the rules associated with various sounds of a number of letter couplings. As a former kindergarten phonics teacher, the rules are extremely helpful to learn this language.
You've done an excellent job explaining the correct pronounciations. Bravo!!!
How can you learn English phonetically when the rules are so inconsistent and illogical? I have never understood this viewpoint.
@@bilahn1198 Learning the sounds of the letters and alphabet long and short sounds are the foundation. Kids learn the basic rules of the language and once they have a complete understanding, then the irregular rules that produce different phonetic sounds are introduced.
I taught 5 year olds who were not able to graduate to grade 1 if they could not read. By the end of the kindergarten school year, the kids were fluent in reading and pronunciation because they learned and understood all the rules.
You misspelled pronunciation. :)😊
@@FouSurLaColline LOL...Stupid typos. I've been known to do that occasionally. But I can assure you, I used to score well on my spelling tests... 95-100%. Spelling tests were something we had to do all throughout elementary school in the Caribbean.
@Bilahn
Phonics is how our children learn to read fluently for a reason. Yes there are exceptions to the rules, but there are also rules for those exceptions. There is literally no better way to learn and understand the building blocks of English. You will never be truly fluent through rote memorization.
I loved following you to improved my english, vocabulary and correct pronunciation Thanks it helped me a lot
Hi Antonio! I'm a native English speaker from the US. Your video landed in my yt recommends, probably because I'm studying Korean. Your intonations are flawless and your explanations are awesome! As a native speaker I never anazlyed the intricacies of my own speech until I started studying Korean. I've never seen a video as on-point in breaking down pronunciation as yours. You're incredible!! One thing I did note at the start of the video though, is how you said "characteristics". I think I heared a slight emphasis on the second syllable A, which correctly belongs on the first part of the word. Phenomenal video!! Wishing you lots of continued success!!
Some tips or recomendación to learn Korean please ...
@@miriam1812 Hi Miriam! The foundations are the most important in my opinion. To learn the Korean alphabet I recommend the youtube channel "Learn Korean in Korean. Teacher Kim has wonderful, easy-to-understand, short videos. This is the first of them: czcams.com/video/zFcTtqrsflc/video.html Moving on, as a general resource, I've found "Talk to me in Korean (TTMIK)" to be one of the best out there. They have a youtube channel and a website with free content. I started with their "Essential Grammar" course which is available for free on their website. It includes the lessons, a pdf of the lesson, and a podcast to hear the author teach the lesson and pronounce all of the Korean words. czcams.com/users/TalkToMeInKorean2009 and talktomeinkorean.com/. When you hit the "sound change rules" rabbit hole, this video from "Go Billy" will serve you well: czcams.com/video/VbOWbrPoW00/video.html. And finally, most enjoyably, watch a lot of K-dramas!! They are lots of fun and will expose you the most to the language. You'd be surprised at how much information will sink into your brain just by watching and listening. The website "Viki" has a lot of free Korean television shows and movies with subtitles in different languages. I hope you enjoy. www.viki.com/ Good luck!!

Nice of you to share your hard earned expertise.
Hi, Antonio. I simply love yr videos. They´ve just confirmed what I heard in terms of good pronunciation. It just pierces my ears, though, when I hear you start "the reason is ... and I expect you to say "that" and then you wind up saying, "because". I know many native speakers use 'the reason is because', but, according to my TOEFL classes, this is a case of substandard English, ain´t it so?!
Keep up the work, pls.
Antonio, this is really helpful.I learned English as a young adult and always trying to improve English pronunciation
My English has improved a lot thanks to you... I was able to understand the whole video without the need to use subtitles. you are very funny and cheerful I love you .... keep it up
As a western Canadian speaker I do say comfortable correctly but I always use the four-syllable version. Even stranger I tried to pronounce it the way you are pronouncing it with three syllables and I literally cannot do it lol

Very nice & informative. Because English is our second language in the Philippines, the mentioned commonly mispronounced words are pronounced correctly for most of us. I got it wrong for genre.
I love your explanations, so clear and concise!
As an English born cockney guy with the ability to speak clear & precise English, some call it posh, & who has lived in South East London all my life, I never knew people had soo much trouble with words I use everyday & don't even think about. This is a very good video for all those learning english, but the further north you go, the more the dialect changes, so this is literally London language 😃
well, "English born cockney guy", I guess you don't have the ability to speak a foreign language.
Who agrees that this lesson is perfect for people whose English is a second language. Most English- speaking people should know how to pronounce these words correctly.

I could totally relate to the miss-pronouncing! Normally, pronouncing problems would happen when you're from a different culture, even though, I'm from Chinese, my friend says she understands me very well. Most of the time, Spanish people have problems with English, cause of their accent. I have to say, this video is impressive! ✨
What are u talking about? If you can see this guy is from Italy and he speaks great English. For sure you know that Italian and Spanish languges have many similar sounds, on the other hand, it is difficult for me to understand chinese people. Well that is not the point, I am from Mexico, Therefore students as us should try to push ourselves to get a better English, videos like this help us a lot.
@@marthaescalante3551 Yes, You're totally right! People are very different, Although, if you speak your own language most of the time, you would sound more like your culture, If people practice English a lot, they'll still sound like their own culture, but, their English wouldn't be that bad. So, Glad I've discovered your channel. ♥
I’m struggling to find the video that I commented on earlier, so I’m just going to post a follow up here. I have been thinking about how you pointed out two different pronunciations of the word the. I had thought that I always said it the same way, and that most Americans did, but now I am realizing that you’re right! I do sometimes pronounce the word differently before a word starting with a vowel especially before an a. If it were not my native language, I never could learn English. You’re a wonderful teacher.
You're Amazing! Thank you. I used to speak 9 languages, but the English "pronunciation" is quite something 😊.
Ab-so-lute-ly spot on!! Will definitely share and show this video when a "conflict" arises!! 😂 So many people don't recognize how difficult English truly is! To complicate matters, there are differences between the Canadian vs the American prounciation of some words: advertisement and lieutenant come immediately to mind! Regardless of the "acceptance" of both, it is a pet peeve of mine and have caused some heated discussions, when I won't back down!!😂

Hi dear, I need your help to practice English speaking skill please 🙏
Yes, I noticed that in the U.S. everyone pronounces it like
com’f’ table.
Thanks for noting that this is US English and not British English. I found myself waiting for him to say the pronunciation of "water" is "wawder" 😄
I think Antonio is only hearing comfortable pronounced in a neutral mid-west accent. I also pronounce it the 2nd way. Spent a few minutes during this video trying to pronounce it the 1st way and have to force it. Feels unnatural.
Hello Antonio, Thank you so much for providing this valuable series! Your videos are always filled with useful and accurate information.
My sense of your character leads me to believe that you will not be offended if I point out that, in this installment, you have made a couple of pronunciation errors, yourself, and will welcome feedback that enables you to correct them...
In your comments on the word 'genre', you used the word 'characteristics' with the pronunciation: kuh-RACK-tuh-riss-tiks.
In the correct pronunciation, the intonation falls on the fourth syllable, with the following regional variants: kehr-ik-tuh-RISS-tiks and (less common) kaar-ik-tuh-RISS-tiks.
A more subtle error is found in the word 'historical', in which you drop the aspirated 'h', producing: ISS-TOH-rì-kuhl. Pronouncing the 'h' softens the intonation of the first syllable because it minimizes the need for initial glottal attack to "get the word going." It also, interestingly enough, alters the syllabication! With the aspiration, the intonation becomes: hi-STO-ri-kuhl.
Hope this helps!
I just watched the video and you're right. He mispronounced characteristics. Even the best teachers make mistakes sometimes!
I was going to mention the characteristics mispronunciation but I'm glad you did. I love watching Antonio. He's amazing and seems like a lovely person.

Thanks Antonio that was really interesting and enlightening at the same time. One more word I used to mispronounce a lot was "Vegetable" .. used to stress that G forever, yet recently I came to know that G should be cut short here.. who knew!!! well now I know, indeed the pronunciation in English language is weird!!! 😂
Vej-tibble - soften the G and forget about the E right after it 🙂
Excellent video!!! ‘Colonal’ is definitely a crazy one. A word I’ve wondered about is, ‘valet.’ It’s not a French word but most people tend to want to French it up anyway, pronouncing it either VAL-ay or val-AY.
I’m a native American (but not a Native American 😉) and I had always pronounced it ‘Val-AY.’ But a few years ago I learned even dictionaries are not in agreement. Some say it rhymes with ‘mallet,’ while others insist it is pronounced VAL-āy. Some say it depends on whether it’s used as a noun, or as a verb. Apparently either way is acceptable.
Ever since learning this I’ve irritated my friends and family by drawing a point to the controversy, by deliberately mispronouncing various other words ending in ‘et.’ The words, wallet, mallet, pocket, facet… and even alphabet, I’ve ‘Frenchized’ to, wal-AY, mal-AY, pock-AY, fass-AY and al-fa-BAY.
It’s kinda fun but it’s become an addiction, I tell ya! 😂
Congrats my dear, you are really great
I read that valet rhymes with wallet 😄
But "colonial" is nothing like "colonel". "Lieutenant" American is different from the English pronunciation. It goes on an on. I pity those studying English as a second language. Hey, wait a minute I was born in Italy, became an American citizen at the age of 17 and am fascinated by English and its literature. I must be masochistic.
Like most Romance language words, “valet” has its roots in Latin, but its current spelling and pronunciation is French.
