100 Words You Say Wrong (Common pronunciation mistakes in English)

- Here are 100 words that people often say wrong in English. Do you make any of these common pronunciation mistakes?
English pronunciation is a real challenge for people learning English, because the spelling is so irregular. Just think of all those silent letters...
If you sometimes say these words incorrectly, don't worry - you're not alone! It is very common to mispronounce these words.
Please note:
When I say "British English/pronunciation", I'm referring to RP (received pronunciation). When I say "American English/pronunciation", I'm referring to General American. Obviously there are many other English accents and dialects, but it's impractical to look at all of them in a video like this.

How nice to have you back, Max! 💟We really missed your lessons. I've added some new entries to my notebook of mispronounced words.
Here are some that were already there: southern, vehicle, exhibit, bargain, celtic, binoculars, pseudonym, scarce, Holmes.
Thank you! 😃
And those are good words too! I'll keep them in mind in case I make a similar video :).
Thanks Max for your lessons! I love it.

Thourought enjoyed it. Thanks.
This sharing is very good, hope can do more in the future. Thank you.
Thanks a lot ..i like your calm and amazing way of teaching
Hi Max, glad to see you back again. I missed your lessons.
One thing that is very contraintuitive in English pronunciation is the way how words with many syllabels are pronounced, like the examples you had in your video: mischievous, photography, thermometer. I would find it very helpful if you could prepare a lesson with such words. I'm sure, I pronounce most of them wrong.
Yes... unfortunately we have to learn each word individually :S.
So glad you are back, Max! 😃😃😃
Hello! I'm glad to watch you on CZcams again. I hope you are well!
Thanks for this fantastic video! It's very interesting and useful, as always.😘🌹🥰
Thank you so much, Diana!
Fantastic way of teaching!
Dear Teacher Max,
You have a gift from God to teach. It is a great jewel you received from our Father.
If I have a teacher like you with for private lessons, I would not need an IPA alphabet.
But as I am alone in my country, I am not accompanied by English native speakers, IPA is absolutely the must tool in studying English.
Listening again and again helps so much
Really exciting lecture. Thank you teacher.❤❤❤
Wonderful presentation ❤
Nice lesson.Thanks.
Many thanks!
It is an amazing video with a lot of learning. Frankly speaking, pronunciation of words has been such a tough challenge for people whose native language is not English because of the linguistic interference of other languages. I watched the video from A to Z and I too much learned from you. Keep on sharing your valuable experiences. From Mozambique.
Many thanks for your kind words :).
Hello Max, welcome back to CZcams ☺. I hope you're well and that you'll have time to make other videos. Thumbs up, good job !
I hope so too! And thank you!

Max....best english coach in the world.
Hi Max....love your lessons.....
I benefited a lot from your pronunciation of the words. Thank you very much, a fan of the English language from Saudi Arabia . شكرا جزيلا🤣 أنت وسيمة وجوهرة
Two words that I've noticed are being mispronounced more and more frequently these days are "contribute" and "homage".
Thanks for trying to preserve the beautiful English language!
I love learning the difference between British and American English. There's a fun contrast between nuisance and coupon.
also 8:47 bussy :)
Thank you very much to our great English teacher, Mrs. Max, for your very useful, great English CZcams videos. Orhan Baki, from Şenlikköy- Florya/Istanbul- Türkiye.

I have not started the video yet. I consider myself very literate so I will watch for a while (longer if I find any) and see if you have any words that I pronounce incorrectly. Edit, I checked your video and you pronounced the words correctly. Well done. (that is rare)
Good. You have a nice easy style. Liked it. Thank you and well done.

Also some confusing of pronunciation: island vs. Ireland vs. Iceland. Thanks for video. Kind Regards Markku

Hello namesake!))) Glad to see you again !!!
Hey, thanks!
I appreciated a lot.
Helpfull video 👍
Thank you SO MUCH for this
- love perfect English, hate the lazy 'mistakes'.
I am sick of the 'ng' being left out (for the Americanised 'in' ') at end of words such as 'singing', 'walking', etc!
Thanks a lot Max‼️❤ Personally, this video Is Awesome 👌🏼👍🏼🙏🏼 I'd like another one focused on the same topic👏🏼🎉🤩🎊👏🏼 I'd really appreciate that 😊
Thank you, Cecilia! I'll try :).
@@EnglishwithMax That's very kind of You, Max! Beforehand, thanks for your valuable time ¡! Blessings 💫✨🌞🌈

Good to see you back with new CZcams video after a long time -- please do it frequently -- I am your fan and a student from India
very good 🤩 continue
That's great .
Excellent video! I'm familiar with all those IPA symbols so this was fun to watch.
On a related topic, a local radio host in here San Diego had a long-standing show called "A Way With Words" where people could call in and talk about their local dialects and so forth, and eventually the host wrote a book with the title "There Is No Zoo in Zoology" which I instantly had to have, being constantly irritated by the dumb mistakes so many people made so often. In the above case, the author pointed out that "Zoology" is a combination of "Zoa," the Greek word for "Life" and "ology" meaning "the study of" as you probably know, but when even employees at our famous Zoo would make this mistake I had to do something about it!
So I bought this book and several others, including "Is There a Cow in Moscow?" (no, because the Russian is Mosk-VA), "What in the Word?" and "The Accidents of Style."
Sadly, the author, Charles Harrington Elster, passed away a while back, but these books are still available on line and I had no problems acquiring them if you're interested.
My name is Jeff Wells and I'm guilty of being an especially annoying Grammar Nazi online, so be careful what you write ;)
Interesting! I didn't know that about "zoology". (But rest assured I've been pronouncing it correctly :D.)
Glad to hear it! Another campaign of mine (it's okay, I'm retired and relatively harmless) is to hunt down and slay all these wild apostrophes that show up everywhere these days, not just in America either much to my surprise.
Just discovered you, you're great! I've always been fascinated not only by UK vs. American pronunciations, but reginal accents in countries. Take "business" that you covered. In the Deep South of the US, it may even be called "bidness." I was born and grew up in the Mid-Atlantic of the US, which is pretty much known for having little accent compared to the rest of the US. Anyway, darn those English with their silent letters, can you all Crownsters just clean them up by removing them to help the non-native speakers :)
Thanks very much!
And yes, I definitely think that some spelling reform is in order!
Thank you very much
Glad you’re back 😊❤💐
