The thing that pisses me off when TERFs refer to transmen as "girls" is that they're doing the exact same thing misogynistic men do to women.
Using "girl" in this way is infantilising, suggesting that we're too stupid to make our own decisions and understand what we want.
I have spent years trying to better educate people to stop referring to adult women as "girls" Because it's patronising. And now they're doing it to transmen!!
Which adds the double whammy of not only being degrading, but actively harms their mental health by triggering their dysphoria. It's almost as if bigots don't actually give a shit about the happiness of other people.

@Matt Brown Look, I'm not saying there aren't people who regret transitioning, but people put a disproportionate amount of concern on that aspect and use it to hurt actual trans people. Doctors are going to make really extra sure you're sure before doing anything irreversible to you and they're not even going to operate on a teenager. So even if a teenager does mistakenly think they're trans it's not going to hurt them to experiment and then decide it's not for them.

But according to Jamie, the info came from anti-trans parents of kids who might be trans who were found on anti-trans websites! No trans kids were involved! When a report sounds phony, it's a good idea to check the claimant's sources. I'm glad someone did. Rowling should have known better.

These anti-trans parents are just so dumb.

9:10 a slightly older tran here. transitioned back in 2009-2010. there was literally so little trans rep in the media that i had never even heard the word "transgender" or knew what it meant. i just knew that i was male and i took every opportunity to preface my relationships and friendships with that information, but no one ever took me seriously. they just assumed i meant i was a tomboy asking to be treated like one of the boys. before even seeing a therapist and getting a "diagnosis", i knew who i was and what i'd wanted for myself, i just didn't have the words or know the path. there are so few people out there who would be willing to transition when you can so easily just adjust your gender expression--wear less or more makeup, wear a wig or cut your hair, make changes to your wardrobe--and see how you feel about it. i've only met ONE person who detransitioned, and she insisted to me that she didn't regret transition and didn't want her story to be used in ways like this. She was like "hey, i thought i had it right, but i didn't, and i understood going in that there'd be consequences. i'm an adult and i made an informed decision based on the information provided to me by my therapists and doctors. just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean this isn't a vital process for others."

(New coming out/news down by edit)
I'm a trans man, and when I did come out to my mum and my sister, my mum kept on crying every night, which made me very upset, also looking at the wrong type of research about transgenders (she was looking at stuff like how transgenders will never be their gender, just stuff mainly focused on how they apparently will never be the gender they are), and my sister just pretends I never came out.
It's been over 6 months from then, I educated my mum a bit more on it of the parts of where she was wrong, she still sometimes dead names me, but tries to use my name, she still doesn't want to call me he/him yet, she said that it will take her a year or a few to get used to the pronouns. My sister on the other hand, completely ignores that I'm trans, she blames me and says that "I just think I'm trans cause of my autism", which didn't help when I first came out, she keeps on talking like how she would talk to her other girl best friends saying stuff like "ooo can I do your makeup?" "lets go shopping for some clothes, dresses, heels" and just about stuff I do not feel comfortable wearing/doing and I highly doubt she will ever really call me by my preferred name and pronouns but I'll have to live with it cause she is my sister after all and that can't be helped.
    Edit:
So for the past 4 or so months I've been questioning my gender, and I have (finally cause it ws starting to bug me) come to a realisation that I identify as demiboy.
I've had a lot of thought about it and have spent time focusing on my feelings about it and to try to see if my gender identity is actually demiboy, and I did a lot or research about it cause I wanted to find out what my feelings were, and demiboy fit the puzzle piece perfectly.
And over the past few months 1, my partner broke up with me do to things happening to themself and 2, I've also come to the realisation (with help from my counsellor) that I don't really say what I'm actually feeling just so I can make other people happy and ever since my partner broke up with me its helped me realise my actual feelings as when I'm either close to people or dating someone I hold back my true feelings to make them happy but I'm fed up and just done with not being fully MYSELF and holding my feelings back for others.
So this edit is basically me coming out to you guys and making my feelings known to myself as this is the only way I can actually get my feelings through to my head.
I identify as a male, I love it when people use he/him and masc pronouns on me, it makes me feel happy but I don't want to FULLY be a guy. I just want to identify as one but not fully become one. I've had a major sit down with myself and thought of stuff that I do and don't want. and I realised that I don't know if I actually want to go on T. I might not go on T. My voice has gotten deeper due to me purposely practicing my voice to speak in a bit lower tone and its now become normal and I'm happy with the tone of my voice currently. I still want top surgery and I 100% know that I do NOT identify as female, any female pronouns on me makes me feel weird and uneasy.
Also just to finish this up, me writing this has relieved me and made me feel more at peace with myself. Hopefully in the future I don't change myself just to make others happy.

the argument I hate the most from transphobes is the whole "you're a woman who hates being a woman because society told you being a woman is wrong" because like. I grew up literally SURROUNDED by ideas like "girl power" and "women are smarter" and "girls rule, boys drool", my parents made it so so so clear constantly that they wanted me to explore what it meant to be female and how masculine I wanted to be and that they wanted to see me grow up a strong and smart and successful woman who was independent and free, my school had girls clubs where we would talk about female empowerment and workplace equality, I literally never ever got bullied for my gender, and I *somehow* still ended up displaying signs of gender dysphoria at as early as 6 years old. I grew up in an extremely female-positive environment that any girl would love, and I still ended up a trans man. as it turns out, nobody is going around tricking children into being transgender!

I had a thematically similar situation growing up. My parents were gender-lax and intentionally gave us access to gender-neutral play and never admonished us for being masculine, and I was clotheslined by girl power in all childhood media. My mom was a bit misandrist too, and my dad was a bit androgynous (turned out he's actually a he/him agender person). At no point did I ever think that men were better. I just thought they were slobs. I actually had a panic attack when I figured out I was trans, because I didn't want to be a man. I honestly could have ended up a terf. But I accepted myself and moved on, and now I'm a happily transitioning nb trans guy. If I can be trans, anyone can be.

She had labeled them that in the first one that she was pretending to be a boy, and said that she had been miserable and suicidal, and that in the second picture she was embracing her true self as a woman and was very happy now. They shared it thinking she was cis, which she then shared on Reddit thinking it was hilarious. Edit: I just remembered - the group titled it something along the lines of "She's so beautiful in her natural femininity, why would she want to be a guy?". So I think that's what was so funny, as they were actually confirming her gender, but I mean how attractive someone is is so not the point, mind you.

I went through something similar, although my questioning and public experimenting was a lot shorter than the four years. I think the heavy questioning and experimenting only lasted around a year or less, but I’ve had little questioning periods around gender before hand and after actually. I feel like I have some sort of undiagnosed mental health problem, or at least had one in the past, but I’ve never been able to visit a doctor.
It’s nice seeing other people question and come out the other side as happily cis, as I didn’t see that much when I was questioning and felt very lonely. I hope that doesn’t sound weird - trans people are valid and I respect them/try to be a good ally, but idk it’s nice seeing someone I can relate to as I imagine a lot of other people would understand.

Send them a cease and desist and demand an apology. You are an online influencer, taking and using your image without your consent could arguably impact your reputation and income. Honestly, I think you could easily find a solicitor who would send the letter on your behalf very cheaply or if it has to go further, they would probably do it on a no-win, no-fee basis because of the clear cut nature of the image, it has your face, they have altered the image without your permission. It would come under IP laws. EDIT - Found it on Instagram and reported it for you.

So basically they had such a hard time finding a picture of a regretted surgery that they used a picture of your successful surgery that literally made your life way better (that's the OPPOSITE of regret!) and made up an entirely untrue backstory and then claimed this was fair use? Talk about evil idiots! That must be so awful to deal with them doing that 😔

A couple of weeks ago I came out to my grandmother. She seemed really supporting and i was happy to finally have an accepting and supporting family member, as the rest of them (besides one of my cousins) hate me for it. Hate is a strong word, but i don't know what else to use to describe slapping me hard enough to cause me to bite my cheek and bleed, to yell at me constantly until I'm gagging blood and crying, and continuously saying that I'm doing everything wrong with my life.
Earlier today, i wanted to make an orange smoothie and i had a saved recipe on my mom's phone so I asked if I could use it. She let me. And i took advantage of it since I already had suspicions.
I snooped through her texts (i know that's bad).
It turns out my grandmother doesn't support me and she only wanted to make a good impression.
Now i feel sad, empty. And it also turns out my counselor doesn't support me either.
I'm sorry for ranting, but you are one of my idols. I only found you about half a week ago, but you've really made me feel better.

I think it may have something to do with people who feel like they don't belong in society or that they need to repress parts of themselves, are often attracted to eachother. Also, when you form a tight knit group of accepting people, you're more likely to feel comfortable enough to accept and look into certain parts of yourself and come out.
