    You popped me into my recommended video feed (I subscribe to lots of Sailing channels) and after watching I have subscribed.👍 You have carried out an impressive upgrade and I need to binge watch to understand the back story. A few off the cuff comments : 1. Mantus - check, 2. Generator - check, 3. Solar Panels - I think your mount is too low and your hard canopy is going to put it in shadow often (I think), 4. Water Maker - check but it seems very big (physically and performance), especially as you have removed tank capacity. 5. Water tank removal check - but why was it to make it space for the water maker? 6. Wind generator - check. I look forward to catching up on your story and hopefully you receive my questions as constructive.

      I had your concerns with the solar also. It is working out well inspite of being low. It does block our view from the back though. After being in huge seas and bad storms, I am glad it is low to be more stable. water maker is small. it makes enough water for 4-5 days at a time. We love it! Water tastes great!! Thank you for watching. I am trying to improve my videos. So very new to this stuff.

    Hi Waveriderlife.
    Thanks for posting. I too thought the solar config was going to be raised to the height of the hardtop. You might find that you rib gets a hiding from big following seas.
    Seek advice from those channels on CZcams who are already learning this stuff ahead of you.
    The Wynns [ Gone with the Wynns ], Cat Impi, Sailing Sisu, S V Delos and so many more. No sense making mistakes which others have already learnt from.
    Audio is always the first thing which needs to be improved. Jamie and Liz on Follow the Boat and Jason and Nikki on Wynns have posted a lot on audio and video production.
    Fair Winds and Following Seas to you.
    David. Down Under.

      Thanks. I though i had resolved the audio problem, We have had no problems with the solar config. I just do not like that it blocks some view. It sure good at keeping the rain out of the tender!!

    I would really love to know the cost of each item installed, and price difference there, VS in the US. I am boat shopping, and I would want these items as well. Also I have heard a lot of negative comments over the noise from the wind gen... ?? What's your thoughts..??
    Thank you..

      Hi, which items? Generator? The wind generator is very quiet. Visitors to the boat comment on how quiet it is. Sailing around I have noticed other wind generators that are noisy. The generator is also quiet. I would have to look to remember the prices. So long ago already! Just let me know which products you are interested in. Thank you. My internet right now is spotty. Please bbare with me if I do not get back to you fast.

      @@Waveriderslife What brand is the wind gen.? I am boat shopping, and I'm trying to get a feel for what it will take to get it set. Generator, water maker, solar plus...??, and plenty of electronics. AIS, radar, auto pilot, and all interfaced with ipad. Sat TV, and wifi.. I'm reading up, and getting all the info I can.
      Its good to hear the wind gen is quiet. How much charge does it bring in compared to the solar ? Being it can run day and night should be helpful. I want to get set up totally self contained, and use fuel (generator), only as a backup
      Thanks for the reply.

      @Waveriderslife  Před 5 lety

      @@leemcwilliams1500 our wind generator is a superwind. It is German made and we are very happy with it. It is better than the silent wind we think. We have a 5kw Kohler generator and is big enough for our needs. The water maker is Iridimar. It produces 130lph. The only thing is it does not oprerate on 12v which would be nice for the days we have excess power! solar we have 4/ 260w panels. The only thing i would change would of been having a water maker that could run off the solar and wind.

    • @Waveriderslife
      @Waveriderslife  Před 5 lety +1

      We are very happy with it. We talked about hydro but decided it was too expensive. Our batteries are fully charged by noon each day. We have no power issues at all. I even vacuum, use a blender and other devices during the day. The wind generator is good , especially at night when the wind comes up. The batteries do not lose the charge as fast.

      Thank you for understanding this is new to me!! We had the work done in Croatia because we wanted the upgrades for the Med crossing and the Atlantic crossing. I could not imagine doing those without the things we had done. We are in the Canary Islands now and have relied on the solar, water and wind upgrades we had done. 8 days and nights at sea and no upgrades would of been tough! well, it was tough anyhow! Ha!

    Why did you not improve the batteries to catch the energy collected by solar panels an wind generator ? A lot of more capacity and a better batterie-type, eg. LiFePO4 might be an idea and may even replace the generator.

    • @Waveriderslife
      @Waveriderslife  Před 6 lety

      Great question! We tried! In Croatia, finding lithium batteries was impossible. We searched all over the EU! The company that could get them for us did not have any in stock. Also shipping them over was way to costly. We are getting them in Florida when we go there March 2018.

    You use the wrong place for the watermaker and will loose stability. Sorry to tell you this.

    • @peterhaan9068
      @peterhaan9068 Před 6 lety +1

      I'm pretty sure you will have some difficulty servicing your water maker and to a lesser degree the gen set. Both of these units require room to service and adequate ventilation to operate properly. I'm thinking that your water maker is going to have a short, hot lifetime in the space that you have mounted it!
      Not too sure just how wise it was to give up water storage capacity just for the sake of finding a cubby hole to stick your water maker in?
      I am unimpressed with their field welding. I'm thinking you might want to have them looked over and redone where necessary. The welds done in their welding shop are probably okay but any welding that was done on the boat should be checked out and redone where necessary. The welds on the wind generator braces looked pretty rough though the installer did stand on them.

    • @Waveriderslife
      @Waveriderslife  Před 6 lety +2

      We had a Lagoon Rep in Croatia with us and this is where they said the water maker usually goes. It did get ventilated. I sure hope that it does not have a short life! What are your experiences with the water maker here? We could only go with what was advised to us and some research. we did not come across that.

    • @peterhaan9068
      @peterhaan9068 Před 6 lety +1

      That may be one of several places, according to Lagoon, that a water maker CAN be installed, not necessarily the best. Time will tell. Hopefully your Croatian Lagoon rep is an experienced off shore sailor and not just a salesman!
      I am not familiar with the brand of water maker you have chosen. It looks well made and oversized for your needs.
      Hopefully you have verified the starting current demand for that water maker against your gen set load capabilities.
      Again you have reduced something vital to life, the ability to store water by what, 25%, 50%? You have given up that water storage capacity for something that is mechanical and subject to break downs. As soon as it becomes non-functional, and it will for whatever the reason, you are left with a reduced water storage capacity.
      Enjoy your enthusiasm and videos. Looking forward to making the trip with you both!

      @Waveriderslife  Před 6 lety +1

    Sorry to say this but I had to stop watching.....I just couldn't hear anything that was being said. You will probably get loads of tips from others but you should always have a dead cat on your mike. After you have filmed a sequence always check it and if the sound is bad, consider using subtitles to compensate until you can rectify the problem or rerecord if possible.

    Ok, lets be honest, the only way to make any sailing cat seaworthy, let alone a world cruiser, is to saw off one hull, install a keel and re-rig it.
    Sailing cats, are a monstrosity of an idea. Seriously folks, you need to have zero sailing and zero sea miles experience to be drawn in such a thing.
    No one in deep and heavy seas ever said: gee, i really wish my vessel had a second hull and was almost equal in length and width. Adding a mast and sails to a raft carrying a condo does not make a sea worthy vessel, let alone a sailboat. Throw enough carbon, diesel and money and hubris to it (this problematic idea) and you may sail downwind in one of those.

    • @Waveriderslife
      @Waveriderslife  Před 5 lety +2

      Well I disagree. This one sailed through the Med in winter with waves hitting us on the beam, higher than our flybridge. This boat had no trouble handling that. The winds were higher than 30kn for 8 days and nights. Thunder storms all around us. Try that in a monohull and a person would be bouncing around like a ping pong ball! Thank for watching anyways
