      Sailing Sisu I got add if it wasn't for folks like yourselves being able to afford and get these new boats there wouldn't be hardly any new innovation that we see going on also keeping people employed and with paychecks to hopefully one day follow you. Those people shaming you are fools and are extremely short sighted. Myself I'm personally excited to see more vids and see how well all these new innovations in design and equipment and sub-system's perform and hold up over time. 😀

    Capt Frik, Re: New Maverick 440 Hybrid. I’m not quite as tall as you so cabin height won’t be as big a deal for me. I think it was for you. I know storage won’t be as much as L45 and, no forward cockpit. But an E-boat would be koowl, don’t you think?

    • @SailingSisu
      @SailingSisu  Pƙed 5 lety

      Yes, I do think that. But keep in mind that I was thinking of replacing the smelly diesel tanks and noisy diesel engines. With hybrid, one only replace the engines with motors, but keep the diesel tanks as well as a much bigger genset. The genset has to be at least 13kW...very heavy and noisy and smelly and for sure not green 😉

    • @robweiss748
      @robweiss748 Pƙed 5 lety

      Sailing Sisu saw that; tech not quite ready for prime time. Yes still two ( albeit smaller) diesels and no stand-alone generator. I would need to find out more about the drives, are they series, parallel/mechanically linked, etc. Ideally you can run one as a decoupled genset and not run the drive motor if needed. In any case I will watch the progression over the next several years. Thank you again for your tech knowledge and responding so graciously to my queries.

    • @SailingSisu
      @SailingSisu  Pƙed 6 lety

      Hi, Chris! We just cannot wait anymore! The RCM has excellent finishing touches and is very similar to the Knysna. However, personally, I would not go for the high fly bridge. The Leopard 50 has an option for having it, and for that reason I would rather go for the L50 performance cat without the fly deck. The RCM has very roomy and light cabins, which I like. But have a look at the L50 and mention that you were referred to by us, they will treat you well :-)

    • @SailingSisu
      @SailingSisu  Pƙed 6 lety

      Chris, just to clarify, if you want to cruise around the proverbial cabbage patch and entertain, then for sure the fly Bridge makes sense, but if you want to sail, you need all the sail area you can get. The higher the sails the higher the wind speed, but the faster you'll reef (reducing sail area) or you risk loosing the sails

    Hi, my name is Christian and I just found your videos today. Thank you so much for what you are doing. I am really enjoying your attention to boat comparisons. I that you have not mentioned anything about the finishes on the boat and the type of material they are using. Have any of the boats had real wood finishes, and what is the Leopard using in the galley and staterooms?

    • @SailingSisu

      Christian Wolf Hi Christian, Petro here, thank you for the sub!! Greatly appreciated. So good to hear we can add value. I’m the “interior creator”😉, and Frik ‘s the tech guru. The Leopard 45 comes with laminated finishes with solid wood trims, and wear resistant simulated wood flooring. They also have an option for composite teak decking, which we did not go for - the idea of gutting a fish on that did not seem like something we would feel comfortable doing 😁. The Knysna 500 SE had exquisite wooden finishes throughout (like a very upmarket hotel 👌), and even had an option for plush carpeting in the hulls. I will be addressing items such as mattresses, cushions and interior add on’s in future episodes, but please feel free to ask questions along the way, happy to share.

    • @SailingSisu
      @SailingSisu  Pƙed 6 lety +2

    • @C_R_O_M________
      @C_R_O_M________ Pƙed 6 lety +3

      Sailing Sisu the law of men is never a consideration by the laws of nature and physics! I have actually seen reviews by experienced sailors who were saying that they don't like this design at all. Imagine that you sail in high seas and one wave gets suceeded by another filling completely or partially this area with tons of water before the "4 times faster that the law" drainage compensate to drain.
      That means that the cat will have to be sailing for a lot of its sailing time with extra weight at the front. This is not a good scenario not only for performance but for safety as well. A cat's major harard is of tipping over while surfing down a wave (45s are quite big therefore a lot safer than the 36s or 38s - but still you should never compromise on safety). Extra weight at the front is the least you want in such instances.
      P.S. The front door opening poses a threat as well. There's good reason that almost no cat I ve ever seen has a front facing door for the saloon. It's certainly nice when moored but underway it's a possible fail point. Apart from that I'd like to thank you for the effort in making those videos. I'm actually taller than you (6'10") and I find useful to see other tall people try out cats for their liveability.

    Hi guys.
    In the research stage of a 45foot cat and you have been extreamly helpful. I don’t want to know how much you paid, that’s private, but can I ask you what the payment stages were percentage wise. IE was there an initial (we are interested) deposit, an upfront payment on settling on the config, a payment through the build? A final payment, etc, etc ? Would be very helpful to know.
    Thanks

      @SailingSisu  Pƙed 6 lety +1

      Simon, thank you for the question! yes, we did look at them, and they are awesome cats, very good use of storage and well finished. i was a bit biased since i did and atlantic crossing in 2006 with a leopard 39 and it was fast and took us past a tropical storm or two. the fp and lagoon looks to me very much the same? the l45 just have that different look...but for after sales, the big charter companies all have a good share of all three these boats and they all claim world wide service...which we in practices did not yet experience. i joined the leopard owners group and it sounds as if the owners are super impressed with the service of leopard.

      Thanks for reply. I’m not a great fan of production boats but from what I hear leopard stand up the best out of the big three. Like your videos, good common sense info. There’s a yacht designer here in Nz called devilliers. Originally from SA. Good bloke and got a nice 52 ‘ cat design in alloy. Hoping to build his design in Nz or even consider cape town. A lot cheaper. Jacob Bros there do alloy yachts, good builders from what I hear. Keep up the good work both of you, nice yacht, let the fun begin.

      I think this is a very personal matter. Mavericks are great boats, myself did not like the look. Similar like why Toyota 4x4 and not Mitsubishi 4x4? I just love the Leopard. And in retrospect....we already sailed 4m swells and 40knots of wind....crazy stuff, but the Leopard was like a tank! very steady and never felt insecure. Yes, RC needs to sort out a lot of QC issues, but the design and structure are solid.

The windex is the most viewed instrument on a boat and it is a catamaran instead of a monohull, which a windex normally shows.
