  • NOT RECOMMENDED!!!! The Thorny Path goes basically through South Bahamas, south of Great Inagua, south of Turks & Caicos. It is an acceleration zone for the Trade Winds. A biljard table for the big Atlantic swells bouncing off Puerto Rico, T&C, Haiti, Great Inagua. A super confused sea state with super confused winds.

    We are two crazies from South Africa, Frik & Petro. We knew absolutely nothing about sailing, but the ocean has always been calling. So, we got rid of all our stuff, bought a Leopard 45 Catamaran, and set sail. Follow us as this story unfolds! This is a sea-life adventure captained by a couple of nomads who have built their lives on doing what inspires them in the moment. Join us and see how we break free of the traditional lifestyle, creating videos of our journey, adventures, life on board, and lessons learned along the way. It will be super rewarding if we can be an inspiration or contribute in any way to anybody wanting to fulfil their dreams.
    Follow us on our journey as we learn from legends when Sailing La Vagabonde upgraded from a monohull to a catamaran...SV Delos wants to upgrade to the latest Amel 51 monohull.... Gone with the Wynns chose a Leopard Catamaran and now upgraded to a HH44OC.... choices choices choices. We looked at other sailing channels such as Wicked Salty, Satori, Jessica and Ryan, Catamaran Impi, MJ Sailing, Happy Together, Sailing Uma, Sailing Yacht Ruby Rose, Zingaro, Miss Lone Star, Sailing Doodles, Drenched, Lucky Fish gets Away, RAN Sailing, Out Chasing Star, Follow the Boat, Rigging Doctor, Sailing Lady Africa, Abandon Comfort, and many others to find our answers and solutions, whilst we prepared our yacht in Cape Town, South Africa.
    SISU (Finnish concept) is a grim, gritty, white-knuckle form of courage in situations where success is against the odds. Taking action against the odds and displaying courage and resoluteness in the face of adversity, in other words, deciding on a course of action and then sticking to that decision even despite repeated failures.

    Awesome footage mate. I’m sure it looks much tamer than it actually was, but you did capture the unhappy and wild nature of the boats movement and the broken lumpiness of the seas. Even stabilised, when the horizon is in the shot and the boats movement relative is visible you can see the wild ride. To be honest I expected the boat to be a lot noisier in those conditions. Have you ever been on other brand prod cats in similar? Some seem a lot noisier, at least on CZcams. Hope your water leak is nothing difficult to fix. Thanks heaps for sharing this. I know it doesn’t help you much, but it’s been a joy to me to follow your voyages. Sincere thanks.

    Frik you're getting good at capturing the motion of the boat and sea. A method I've noticed is to shoot across a centerline (fore aft or side to side) and include something or someone in the foreground. Also as you figured out keeping the 'horizon' level with the gimble or software. Even being there waves are tricky. I remember standing on the deck of the Seawind watching my almost 2m tall friend at the mast. I'm 173 cm. There was a wave behind him that was at least a meter over his head, so 5 m? We were in 3 m seas. In any other configuration I wouldn't have even noticed. (When you kayak you're so low in the ocean some days a rogue waves can be only a meter. Every day there are rogue waves, not monsters just bigger. The ones that wash over the top of the boat.)

    Love Petro's thumbnail. Jy het n goeie job gedoen met die kamera om vir ons die seastate te probeer wys. Ek reken dit was die beste poging wat ek nog van enige vlogger gesien het! Hou vir jou duim vas!

    Some of the footage I've seen from you brother, Petra usually does better,😂. The wave state looks like bidirectional with less than 5 second intervals! Fuckin crazy!! Well done Sir 👍🇺🇸👌

      It sure was crazy! Acceleration zone plus waves bouncing between islands, as well as being part of a double slit experiment!

    Was your autopilot not in wind mode?

    • @SailingSisu
      @SailingSisu  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thomas, it depends on wind changes and sea state. Since I wanted to stay as close to wind as possible, I had it on 40AWA wind vane. But the main overpowered the heavy reefed genoa when Sisu hit one of the many rogue waves and weather cocked into the wind, resulting in a hove to. In these cases, we normally go with auto heading, but since I needed to sleep and the wind was all over, I set it on wind vane. Only much later, I managed to fine-tune Sisu at 43AWA and had fewer stalls.
