Maybe she still has trauma from the military that s why she is always on survival mode which is making it hard for her as a cop as she can't put her past away while holding a gun thinking someone is gonna kill her.
Thats exactly it, they talk in the show about how some cops need to learn to go from civillan to cop mode but she has to learn to go from war to civilian mode bc of her trauma so he treats her a lot differently

My friend struggled when he got back from the Marines. He was given his dream job as a Sheriff's deputy. He lasted for six months before having to quit. He went back to school and became a fire fighter. He said he never wanted to carry a gun again, but he still wanted to serve. He's thriving as a firefighter and first responder. He still volunteers to help training the deputies but he knows his calling is to be a Fire Fighter.
I know this is just a TV show… but I ETSed from the Army back in 2010. Had a few jobs with big name corporations like Hyundai and Samsung. Didn’t like the work environment working there as a Korean-American. I’m a high school teacher now. But it’s still tough to this day trying to find my place in the civilian world…
Fwiw, finding a true path that matches the inside personality and outside world is the hardest thing to do. People take up religion to ease the burden of not knowing, even to the point of going the cult route and ceding all thinking in favor of compliance. All struggling with 'walking that golden path' has a foot in perfectionism, a somewhat unrealistic expectation, and another in the disappointment of the dreaded 'unfulfilled potential'. I hope it's enough to be true to oneself. Good luck with your journey.

And we really can't have too many experience first-responders in those types of roles. But, who knows.
