- Drawing from the holster is one of the key fundamental skills that everyone should learn as part of their tactical training when it comes to operating a pistol for defensive purposes.

Alien Gear Holsters was proud to host Jason Beighley of Skeleton Key Tactical for several days of tactical training, drilling fundamental pistol skills for armed self-defense. Sound fundamentals were heavily stressed, as that's what wins gunfights.
A sound draw from the holster starts with getting a solid grip on the pistol. You should have a high, tight shooting grip with your firing hand.
The support hand should be indexed on the body to keep it out of the way of the muzzle as the strong hand draws the pistol from the holster.
After the gun clears the holster, you want to rotate the pistol up and then drive it towards the target. As the gun comes up towards the line of sight, the support hand should come onto the gun to build the shooting grip.
A good presentation should be efficient, with the least amount of movement possible and the straightest, shortest travel of the gun from the holster to being on target.
A good draw will put the sights on target without needing correction. The sights should arrive aligned, without needing to be pushed up or pulled down to get onto the target zone.
Drawing from the holster isn't complicated, but does take some practice in order to get efficiency. For the beginner, you should start slow and work on being smooth. Remember, slow is smooth and smooth is fast.
After you've achieved efficiency, then you start practicing to get speed.
You should also make sure to have a quality holster for training and certainly for daily carry. You can get those at:
