    We have a very similar background (including age) but what is most interesting to me is how different it is working in HR for different INDUSTRIES. For example, you in healthcare and I in manufacturing. I am sure we get to experience a total different type of workers and possibly even issues we face with employee relations. Love this video!

    1. I too am a psychology undergraduate and was inclined towards this field. I am confused in relation to going in for I/O Psychology or HRM course.Which is better?
    2. Does interning at bigger/reputed firms benefit more than interning at startups?

I’m in my senior year of undergrad, and starting to apply to apply to grad school. I’m unsure whether to go down the i/o psychology route or the HR route. But my problem is that I don’t have any experience. Any advice on how to gain some experience in the field of hr.

    • @CarmenGilFraguada

      Ugh Chem is the worst! But that honestly depends on what you want to do career wise. Do you want to be in more of a consulting role (i/o psych route) or do you want to be an HR Manager/Director (HR Route). Also, consider the length of time you want to invest in grad school, Masters vs. PhD. A few days ago, I uploaded a video on tips for gaining experience in HR, let me know if you have any other questions after watching that one :)

    I'm a fresh graduate 🎓 of Agriculture sciences my minor subjects were all related to Agricultural studies but last 2 years of major i have studied social sciences related courses and luckily I studied HRM module and it changed my mind completely I truly enjoyed that module and now I am planning to do my masters in HRM from any recognised university from UK. Would you suggest me to give it a shot because I love communicating with people, listening to them solving their matters, making them feel better and happy I really love human beings no matter where do they belong their religion, culture and sexuality i am person who genuinely respects people and try to own their problems and I am great in negotiations and conflict resolution all these things comes natural to me and theoretically that only one HR module taught me alot please give me your positive feedback 😊
    Should I apply into master in HRM ?

    I'll be entering a bachelor in HR in September with an internship. I'm French so as long as I'm not in a manager position, here employers can't make you do more then 35 hours on average per week. After that tho, I guess it depends on your contract. Most I know are assumed to do 40 hours but are actually free to leave when they want as long as the job is done (I work in the aeronautic industry)

      If you're in college, try to find internships with companies your school partners with. If you're not in school, try to get an HR job in a non-profit. The pay isn't always great, but they're more willing to train someone without any experience!

    I would like to get a bachelor's degree in hr in the future, but for now I want to get an associates at a community college so I can get my foot in the door of more reputable companies. I've been back and forth on whether I should I get my associates in hr or office administration.
    I am a single mom with a one year old and I come from a poor family. I am tired of struggling financially and making minimum wage. I am from an island in the Caribbean and I'm looking to turn around my financial situation for me and my son.
    I would appreciate any advice given. Thanks!

    • @CarmenGilFraguada
      @CarmenGilFraguada  Pƙed 3 lety +3

      Hello! If your interest is HR, I would advise getting an associates in HR, it would be more beneficial to your HR career then a degree in office admin. I completely understand coming from a poor family, I did too! Hard work pays off, just keep pushing on and you will reach your goals. If you don’t have one already, definitely create a LinkedIn account, it’s a great way to connect with recruiters looking for new HR employees. I would also recommend looking into HR roles in non-profits, they are often more willing to take a chance on someone with little to no experience compared to the the bigger companies out there. Best of luck :)

      I completely understand! I actually used to hire social workers & it's a shame they don't get paid better. However, if you are interested in social work, if you go into private practice, there is way more money there then non-profit or hospitals. But if you've decided on HR, I don't see why your degree in social work will be of any hindrance. Just try to land an HR internship while in college to build your resume.

      Hi! You're not alone in feeling that way, almost every freshman in college feels that way. My freshman year of college was horrible & I had so many doubts of what I wanted to do. The best advice I can give you is to listen to your heart. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on what you should major in and what career you should go into, but don't let them project their own insecurities onto you. There's money in HR, I've seen people hit 6 figures before 30, I'm 25 and I was only a few thousand away from hitting 6 figures. However, like any other career, you need experience and you need to be prepare to start at the bottom. You won't graduate college and make an amazing salary, but if you work hard, show companies that you're an asset to their company, you have the potential to make a good salary a few years after college.

    • @CarmenGilFraguada
      @CarmenGilFraguada  Pƙed 3 lety +2

      Everyone has doubts their Freshman year of college, that's the beauty of college! It's the time to explore different options! Think of it this way, HR will ALWAYS be around. Every single company has an HR department, rather it's small or large & it's a very important component of a successful company. Find internships to gain experience, through them you will learn that you either love HR or you hate it. Better to discover that during college then after.
