This is one of the best ASR 10 video-tutorial i have seen in my life. I used my ASR 10 as a workstation in the 90ties and loved the machine. I always thought that i knowed the machine inside out, but your video proofed that i was sooo wrong. It really shows off, that the ASR 10 is way more than just a simple sampler. Ensoniq was a amazing brand, so much ahead in time vs. other brands.
I get so much out of your videos. They are so informative and so well made. The videos are also oddly validating - it's comforting to know there are others :)
This is simply amazing. I have never had the time to fully understand the TS and VFX/SD Series programming options like you have demonstrated on your channel. I have tried with limited sucess but you take it all to another level. Thank you for the comprehensive demos.
Thanks. Actually it took me about a year before I got into the TS and started programming it. I have been to your channel many times, thanks for your videos as well, and then when I was almost finished with my TS video I found yours with Michael's patches. That was funny. Those patches sounds so good and I never knew there was a video about Hyperwave already. Like Michael mentions in his comment...it takes tweaking and retweaking to get things just right. Figuring out the timing of the steps and how that works in a Hyperwave was a big "Ahaaa moment". The Ensoniqs are weird sometimes. As for the SD-1....when I got that there were no disks with it, no sequencer disk and low battery. When I found out is has 2000ms layer delay time available I thought that that would be fun to make a mini Hyperwave. Also it seems kind of unique with regards to the Env Repeat. It is almost perfectly in sync / tempo....something I have not been able to replicate on the EPS-16 Plus, ASR-10 and TS-10. But...eventhough is it not perfectly in sync it is a nice feature for Soundscape programming I think.

Hi Robin, I have a vfx sd, and my sequencer OS disquettes are damage, and the sequencer crashed. Do you know how I could recover the OS? only with a disquette? by chance you have one?
When I got the SD-1 I had no sequencer OS disk either. The battery on mine is low as well so if I want to use the Sequencer, which I have not used in the video by the way, it needs to be loaded every time. You need to check first which ROM version you have in the VFX-SD. Not every Sequencer OS works with every ROM version. I have SD-1 ROM Version 3 so I needed Sequencer OS Disk V3. I do have disk images of the Sequencer disks so you will need to write that to a floppy disk with a computer with internal floppy disk drive.
Hi this is great! I really like your videos! On this subject on delay timing your layers on eps-16 plus. Does this mean your sound/patch is locked on tempo 120 in the 500 ms delay time. As your exampled. So if i wanted to change tempo. Id need to go change all 8 layer delays... Or is there mabey abother aprotch?
Hi Sebastian, you are correct! In this approach each LAYER represents a note length. It's up to you to decide what note length that is. When you do the calculation you can adjust each LAYER to your desired note/tempo by adjusting the LAYER DELAY TIME. The cool thing is that you are not limited to using just 1 INSTRUMENT to create a wavesequence. If you want you can use all 8 INSTRUMENTS which use 8 LAYERS so you can make a (8x8=) 64 waves wavesequence. Notes will be very short then.... but still....it's a cool idea. ;-)
On your TS10, are you using a Sysex app on your computer to transfer samples and presets, or are you using the floppy disk drive? Even though I'm able to back up sysex info onto my PC using MIDI and an app, I have no idea how to copy presets onto it, especially considering that Ensoniq had it's own proprietary format for sysex files. I would love to get some other patches installed on my TS12.
Hi Jon-Michael, I made the Sampled Instrument on the ASR-10 and saved it to a ZIP Disk connected to the SCSI port. My TS-10 also has a SCSI port for importing EPS-16 Plus and ASR-10 Instruments. It's 'read only' so any changes that are made to the Sampled Instrument that are loaded in the TS-10 need to be saved to floppy disk. Of course you can also load Sampled Instruments from floppy disk, that just takes a bit longer, specially with larger instruments. Sampled Instruments can not be transferred to the PC by Sysex. System Exclusive is for Sounds, Presets, Sequences and Songs only. There are lots of sounds floating around on the internet. Check out R-Massive for example. I don't really use/load presets, I love making them myself ;-)
@@jm6734 Thanks. I am a Cubase user and not familiar with the Ableton Wavetable synth. I'll check it out though!
