Michael dips back into the world of custom Lego creations, this time tackling the MOC build for the Aston Martin V8 Vantage from The Living Daylights designed by SFH Bricks, but this time Michael has a few "optional extras" planned for the project. - Zábava
1987 gave us a new Doctor Who and Bond, both of whom live fondly in my heart. Both the video and the Lego Aston are beautifully constructed.
Living Daylights doesn't get enough love! Banger of a theme song and one of Barry's best Bond scores ever plus good story, great and on the mark performance by Dalton, action is legit and the whole ride is a win from start to finish!
I love the Ah-Ha James Bond song 🎵 ❤
The fans are doing the best bodywork ;) Nice one, Michael.
The cello puts it over the top. Bravo.
I owned 2 of those PPK-s. I got them for my 9th birthday. My parent's got it for me from Finland. I'm an Estonian and a huge Bond fan myself.
Lego my cello! Nice work!
Beautiful work on the car, Michael. It looks so good. I think it's safe to say that this Lego James Bond is ... living on the edge. It's the only way he lives!
First off, I love this. Every time I see a LEGO video from you I chuckle a little and remember the immortal words from Yoda... "Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will" because I remember you avoided LEGO for a while. Keep these types of project coming, I know I have enough parts to make this in the grey so I will be attempting it myself. The minifigs look awesome.
Timothy Dalton was the ideal Bond. Great ending to the video!
Living daylights was a good fun bond film! I remember seeing it as a kid and that car is still my favorite. I always wanted the "James bond package" installed into my car...
The cello is a great touch.
The Living Daylights was my favorite growing up too and it was my favorite of all The Bond films. Nice to hear I am not the only one that really enjoyed this flick.
Now IMAGINE if Lego did an ENTIRE Speed Champions BOND Line, Villains and their cars included.
WOW!
Ah, finally! It feels like everybody loves either Goldeneye or Casinoa Royale. Don't get me wrong, but it's so refreshing to hear someone give some love to Dalton. Such a professional actor, who took the role so seriously. Turned it down twice. I can't say enough nice things about Dalton or his performance as Bond. Dalton's Bond is my favorite Bond. I wish he had a third outing.
This is so awesome, Michael. Now all you need are a bunch of perturbed Russian border guards trying to chase Bond down!
"The fans are doing the best work", Michael coined that phrase as a salute to the people who create the things that we wanted then and still want now. I sincerely hope that you know sir, that you are delivering the same thing in the content that you so painstakingly produce, the thought piece videos, the objective reviews and the projects that you share with your fanbase and supporters.
When it comes to CZcams content, Retroblasting is doing the best work, and we thank you for it.
Thanks for the kind words.
One of my very favorite Bond movies also! Timothy Dalton read the books and understood the character.
Great job on the car!
Cool to see you cover some James Bond merchandise. Never heard anyone talk about that chase in TLD or the car for that matter.
Fantastic attention to detail
Looking at this Lego Aston Martin made me smile.
The gentleman's GT. Gorgeous!
Great video and that movie does not get enough love
It's always a pleasure to see what wonders you can make with Lego. You've the right mind for it, Michael. Lovely work. 😁
'80s Bond is my favourite era of Bond, but good grief I was disappointed there wasn't more of Timothy Dalton. He sort walks that line of Connery's hard edge while still having that sense of humanity that Moore gave the character. Ideally, Dalton should have started in _A View To A Kill,_ but alas we can only dream.
Come to think of it, I've always been baffled why there hasn't been at least _a generic James Bond action figure line._ I've thought about this a bit, and imagine a G.I. Joe scale would be good to facilitate vehicles, but also I think there's a solid toyetic vibe with the characters. Ngl, I'd probably just use this to make a Jaws action figure for myself. 😆
Man, The Living Daylights is my favorite too. Exceptional and creative work!
Q would be proud of you, that looks amazing, pity Lego didn't make it in the first place!
My all-time favorite James Bond car. V8 Vantage over the DB5 any day. Most Bond fans are going to think we're crazy for prefering it, but hey, maybe we are. Crazy like a fox.
I just rewatched the movie since it's one of my favorite Bond movies as well.
Easily my favorite Bond actor and ‘Daylights’ is definitely in my top three favorite Bond films! Also, the DB5 is great but Dalton’s Vantage is primo! Another great video from RetroBlasting! I’m going to have to look into getting the plans for this myself!
That's really cool! I remember doing mocs when I was younger, like a moc of Jack being in jail from Pirates of the Caribbean and a moc battle of Hogwarts. Great vid.
This should be an official set imo
If Michael wants a toy he makes it happen. Amazing attention to detail and great job on the final build.
Hands down my favourite Bond movie. It’s even inspired the skydiving scene in my G.I. Joe animation 😅
You have taste, Michael.
Looks great! I remember seeing The Living Daylights with my mom and my friend from elementary school. The part where they quickly depressurized that one guy so his head exploded freaked me out.
That is Licence to Kill, not The Living Daylights.
This is what I loved about Lego when I was a kid! It’s an open ended play experience. The time I spent trying to build the last star fighter ship was crazy with some super glue I got it done. Sadly with my ever expanding 6” action force collection my wife would go out of her mind if I started down the Lego rabbit hole. But thank you sir for the feel good memories!
Always loved that film and the car of course with a great chase and gadget galore, really sensible choices for the minifigures though I’d give Dalton Black hair as it’s very dark brown or back, maybe a swept look but if course the result you’re happy with is the ideal one, thank you for making it in the correct dark grey, it’s a shame Lego discontinues their older grey as I think that could work possibly but yours looks fantastic!
Timothy Dalton is my favorite Bond after Connery.
But _License to Kill_ is my favorite Bond film, or at least the film I tend to revisit the most lately.
Those LEGO sets look good for the Aston Martin and the Vantage.
_The Living Daylights_ has one of my favorite bits:
Bond: We have nothing to declare!
Kara Milovy: Just the cello! ('cello' echoes)
Hi Michael it's me, this and license to kill are my two favourite Bond films. Thanks for your continued content. X
Matt leuty x
That is fucking fantastic!
Now you need the portable boathouse.😀
My daughter and I have & like to build those Speed Champions Lego. That is a great looking Aston, I think I will look into getting that for us. Living Daylights was the first movie I remember my mom letting me go to by myself. I was 13.
Love the bond content, not enough of it on CZcams
Michael, they now have an option at the lego store, or online where you can design all the printing on a minifig and they will do it and send it to you. I made a baseball player version of Charlie brown there
Excellent video Michael!
That is awesome I didn't know you were that deep into Lego. The only thing I'm mostly collect with Lego now is speed Champions and I do custom builds that I find right here on CZcams. That one looks awesome that you did. I might want to even do that
That’s very creative. It’s very cool.
Impressive!
I thought that was Michael on the dvd/blu ray cover at first.
"Oh man a custom dvd cover with him as 007, that's cool."
I agree that the V8 Vantage is one of The best Bond vehicles ever, I hope someone has made a MOC of the Lotus Esprit from “The Spy Who Loved Me” and have made it where you swap parts out to give it the submersible mode, now that is what I also think would be cool.
I have both the reghular Speed Champions and the big Goldfinger car and they are exquisite. I never really thought about MOCing cars, but now I'm thinking I want a speed champions scale Last of the V8 Interceptors from Mad Max.
The Living Daylights has got to be the best Bond movie. So under rated. I grew up on Roger Moore For your Eye's Only, The Man with the Golden Gun, Octopussy. But Timothy Dalton, spot on what I think Bond should be like.
SICK! Yessss
Of the two Timothy Dalton Bond movies, this one is my favorite too! Shame he didn't get the chance to do more films in the series. Great job on the car and the figures! The lighter shade of grey really pops with all the extra detail.
Awesome work Michael the Aston looks brilliant I like the living daylights so I made a character options home using an end of time narrator figure and a primeval captain Tom Ryan and just booked and popped the heads
All that's missing is a minifig scale cello case to go sledding on.
The case would be too big to look correct.
@@retroblastingthere is a minifigure stand up bass that came with the Jazz Club set. It looks more “cello” like. It’s only $3 on Bricklink
So cool! I would really love to see Bobby Vala, at least somebody (not Hasbro) do a three and three-quarter scale, or even the 6 inch scale 007 figures.
I wonder if down the line you will eventually have a fleet of Lego Bond cars. I think getting grey instead of black was a good choice as black would indeed make all the detail unnoticeable.
Well darn, I know what I'm doing this afternoon...
I also reccomend using bruce waynes torso, from set number 76252 for bond, it captures the leather jacket over grey sweater vest look perfectly, even down to the shirt collar sticking out from beneath!
That’s a great looking car.
Just looked and they have an Interceptor build!
…add to cart.
Honestly, it’s not “pure”, but sanding flat one side of the brown stick might make it read better as a bow.
Fine taste you have with the Timothy Dalton movies and the "Brute In a Suit" V8 Vantage, my favorite Bond and favorite car of all the movies. I know you are not into the very expensive partwork models based on your content but Agora models is releasing a good selection of the 007 fleet in 1/8 scale, I am already building the No Time To Die DB5 and The Spy Who Loved Me Lotus Esprit sub aka "Wet Nellie", the Vantage should be coming along in the future with all the gadgets and gimmicks.
The old bond movies are the best.
All right, hold on tight now
It's down, down to the wire
Set your hopes up way too high
The LEGOs in the waaaaaay weeeee diieeeeeeee.
You definitely need the Cello Case! Super important in the movie if memory serves!
Too bulky in Lego form to accomplish convincingly at mini-fig scale.
@@retroblasting yeah, unfortunately there are not a lot of great piece options for something like that. However lately Lego has been putting out more and more small parts that allow for greater small details so who knows maybe in a few more years there will be options. Those flat tiles with a thin raised edge come to mind... If they start making curved versions of these instead of just straight ones that option will get more likely especially if they start making those tiles with studs instead of anti-studs in rounded options.
Looks awesome Michael!
I also love The Living Daylights, i remember going to the Keswick car museum (in the Lake District) in around 2008 and seeing a movie accurate Aston Martin V8 from that film and i actually got to sit in it, the cars were all sold to private sellers in the US i beleive and the museum sadly long gone.
i really like your approach to lego. you stick to indy, james bond and deep vintage like the space explorer. this doesnt dilute the channel and is interesting here and there
Saw it in the theater. Grew up on Bond. But Mike I mean “Living Daylights” over “Skyfall” come on maaaaan. Good video👍
It looks very nice. Lego should redo the Delorean time machine for Speed Champions, they already done it under the Lego ideas line 11 years ago but it was very blocky and there is so many good designs of it on rebrickable now.
In the words of Auric Goldfinger, "You are a clever, resourceful man, perhaps too clever" ;)
The Living Daylights is a very strong film, I love the car chase, the Aston Martin V8 is a gorgeous machine. You did call it a Vantage at one point, which I've heard other people say too, but I don't think it is. In the film Bond starts of driving a V8 Volante (convertible) which I think was borrowed from Aston Martin chairman Victor Gauntlet (who was even offered a cameo in the film, although he declined). Presumably someone realised that driving round Czechoslovakia in the winter, in a convertible Aston Martin was a bit silly, so we get the scene where the car is "winterised" by fitting a metal roof and it is turned into a V8 Saloon (that's what Aston called the basic car).
Incidentally, the Aston Martin V8 Lego MOC looks a lot like it's built like the Speed Champions 1968 Ford Mustang. Which I think is kind-of appropriate as I think William Towns designed the Aston and admitted it was inspired by the Mustang.
Learn something: "James Bond's car in the 1987 film, The Living Daylights, was a V8 Volante (convertible), registration number B549 WUU, with a few optional extras installed. The car used was a Volante owned by Aston Martin Lagonda chairman Victor Gauntlett. Later, the car is fitted with a hardtop ("winterised") at Q Branch, and these scenes feature a pair of non-Vantage V8 saloons, fitted with the same number plate as the initial car, ***but with Vantage badges now fitted to match the previous Vantage.*** The number plate B549 WUU was painted on the upper portion of Pierre Gasly's Red Bull Racing RB15's rear wing for the 2019 British Grand Prix."
Beautiful build, but I think your head and hair pick for Dalton could use improving! For the head I would suggest maybe [Part 3626bpb0204] Minifigure, Head Male Brown Eyebrows, White Pupils, Vertical Cheek Lines, Chin Dimple Pattern - Blocked Open Stud in light nougat coloration to capture Dalton’s strong cheeks and chin and cocksure grin. Part 28621pb0178] Minifigure, Head Dark Brown Eyebrows, Medium Nougat Long Cheek Lines and Chin Dimple, Open Mouth Smile with Teeth Pattern - Vented Stud or [Part 3626cpb3242] Minifigure, Head Dual Sided Dark Brown Eyebrows, Medium Nougat Cheek Lines and Chin Dimple, Neutral / Smirk with Open Mouth Pattern - Hollow Stud would also be a good pick as well imo! For the hair, [Part 99930] Minifigure, Hair Short Combed Sideways Part Left in dark brown I think might work a bit better to represent Dalton’s left-brushed fringe, though I admit there really isn’t a perfect match for his hairstyle as Bond. Either way these are just my suggestions as a fan, the setup looks great either way :)
This is RetroBlasting -- We don't care about comments where people are trying to Monday Morning Quarterback our efforts. Seems like everybody has an opinion after the f**king work has already been done.
@@retroblasting understandable, I did not mean to offend, love you guys work all the same.
Cool video Mike .And these sets of Legos are cool
Lego is a good replacement for things we otherwise can't get. Thats why I got their AT-AT and Slave 1. Too young to have the originals and can't afford the remakes.
Even though Hasbro released a VC Slave 1 six months after my purchase for only $30 more, one is enough for me.
Awesome custom, I'm going to check out these lego custom sites and see what kind of customs they have for the Lotus Bond car.
Now I got the song by A-HA stuck in my head.
Once again, I'm gonna go listen to the THEME song by A-Ha to commemorate the occasion! (The EXTENDED version on CZcams.) My absolute favorite Bond Theme (along with the movie itself). Just those first 3 or 4 seconds of the theme alone basically...... pulls you INTO the movie.
You need to get yourself a Tag Heuer Night Diver, technically not merchandise but looks cracking in the dark!
Pretty good done Michael. Really top notch. I like your V8 Vantage. The DB5 is more difficult to accieve the certain look because of the car. With lego pieces not possible. The speedchampion DB5 is looking not acceptable.
Good morning Michael-sama!
One of my husband’s favorite Bond movies is Living daylights and this kit looks wonderful
ありがとうございます! I hope he enjoys the Lego version as much as I have, Mayumi-san!
@@retroblasting i would love to see lego do Robot Jox i know it’s quarky but i like it!
I saw it on pluto and my son was watching it
What about a PP?
Seriously though, it’s always cool seeing Lego on this channel. AND anything Timothy Dalton is cool given he was the first one to survive the Russian lady who led Mel to give us those insane tapes… Well done Michael!
John Barry's last Bond film score. Unfortunately he did not get on with A-Ha who collaborated with him and likened the 80s boy group to the Hitler Youth. In spite of all that "Inflight Fight" from the soundtrack is a very solid piece of Bond music.
Very nice MOC.
Btw I’m sure someone else must’ve mentioned this, but LEGO have made a specialised bass part which could work as a cello - Bricklink part number 80444pb01
👍👍!
Hey Michael! Did you have time to check the new version of the Indiana Jones Tank?
I haven't yet, but I plan to soon!
Cool. Maybe play mobile will make one.
Now we need a classic LEGO Lara Croft set.
I had no idea your middle initial was "Q". Well done.
The box art on that PPK is the saddest George Lazenby I think I’ve ever seen. Congrats on finally getting your V8, I know it’s been a long time coming!
I think a lot of Lego fans would be happy if they would add one darker shade of gray between the one you used and black. Especially if that gray has the same range of parts available that the other two shades of gray have.
Lego’s gunmetal gray would be a great in-between, but unfortunately it’s primarily relegated to accessories rather than bricks!
@@thespacecowboyyeet5956 true, I wish they would use that color in more pieces but still a color without that extra shiny finish would be great too.
Maybe someday, Playmates will expand their Bond line. And produce one.
He’s become the very thing he sought out to destroy a Lego fan.
Did Michael just admit to being Batman? He only builds in black or very dark grey…
Ummm.... No that's not what I said.
Lego. 007. The. Living daylights. Aston. Martin. V8. Street.

So you stole a bunch of money and then abandoned a kick starter huh? You will never have a career again
Wait, you think this is the youtube page of the person who ran the kickstarter? Are you some kind of simpleton?
