Great video. I drove Crown Vics for years as a cab driver. Some with over 600,000 miles on the odometer. I'll say, with basic maintenance performed regularly, these damn things are tanks that run forever. Dollar for dollar, you really can't go wrong buying one. If you find one with around 100,000 miles, you can run the shit out them for years and years.

All of these parts are widely available at very affordable prices. This motor was run in multiple Ford vehicles and millions were sold. Used online, junkyards and new are all options. These motors and the chassis will need the occasional repair but they can run for hundreds of thousands of miles.

Don’t know if I agree about Idle hours. 75% of engine wear occurs on a cold start. Also the engines will wear much less at idle than at higher engine speeds as long as the carbon that builds up at idle is burned out by the occasional full throttle acceleration. Back in the old days of carbs they called it blowing the soot out but it still is a sound practice.

There is one major flaw with all this. At most auctions, you're lucky if you get to hear it run in advance, and I've never seen them allow test drives, it's usually only when they drive up to the block you get to hear them at all. In the hubbub of the auction, you may not hear things you would otherwise. They're certainly not going to be turning it off and on for you. Mostly, you bid and take your chances. trouble is, so many like these things, the prices seem to get out of hand most of the time. Yeah, I like them too, but not enough to pay too much for an old 100K plus car. So maybe they will go 200k or more, but that's always only a maybe when you can't do a thorough check first.

But this car is the most awesome car I have ever owned. When it was delivered I put $4,000 more into it with all new tires, brakes (including rotors), tires, exhaust system & misc items. SO far it is the best investment ever. Plus it effing kicks a$$ it hauls a$$ when I step on it & my guns fit perfectly in the trunk.

If it's coming out the vents only look under down where the gas pedal is. There will be a black and white tube. They can end up being pulled out. Look in the engine bay under right behind the engine on driver side. You will see where each line needs to be connected.

A huge reason, the biggest reason and you want Tops on your different fluids is because you do not want water getting in there. Especially brake fluid! Brake fluid is hydro scopic and will draw water out of the air if the top is left off and if you've ever had a spongy pedal feel imagine having that and never being able to get it to go away. And just a little tip for people in emergencies, if you absolutely have to you can put transmission fluid in your power steering lines but not the other way around.

The 03 and 04 Crown Vics, Mercury Marquis, and Marauders often have headlight issues after they run for a bit. Buy the repair kit by Dorman on Amazon for about $80-$90. Easy fix and takes care of it.

They will also have a continuous blinking overdrive light if the transmission is fixing to go out! Or atleast I learned that the hard way and $1700 later after a rebuild!

I haven't heard much of anything about specifically where to get one (or even start looking). Most I am looking at are 4-6k (at around 100k miles) which is still reasonable but I've heard all of the stories about people getting them for around a 1000 with like 60-80k miles. I know that the PD's auction them off but I'm not sure where to look. Any info will help. Thanks :)

I want a ford crown so bad, but here in germany they are pretty expensive and rare. I really like them with this massive bullbar and some extra lights on the bar. (Look at Alaska State Trooper, they have these round shaped lights on the bar) Also the spotlights are a must have on this car😍 Is there anyone, who wanna give me one for free? Absolute dreamcar!!!

Really informative and really helpful. How would you check these things if it's in a police auction since they usually don't let you test drive the car.

GiantsRTheBest1 thats the problem...my department would auction off our cars all the time and you were only allowed to turn it on and off...and many of our cars uad transmission problems but we mainly used DODGE CHARGERS...our crown vics were always solid👍

Avoid auctions at all costs on any kind of vechile regardless of what it is unless you have inside information on it it's a HUGE gamble and usually NOT 🚫 in your favor!!! They send vechiles too auctions for a reason and auctioneer's sell vechiles with NUMEROUS mechanical issues!!! YES everything issue you can think of!!!

I wanted your expertise on this. I bought a 2006 CVPI for $2500 in good condition, with 104,334 miles w/o hours (hours below 1000). What a steal? I checked everything when I test drove it. Only problem it had was a misfire, bad plugs, the dealer fixed it, then I bought it. But after using it and driving on the highway for over 200 miles. The serpentine belt started slipping when the car was started cold, and then it would stop and not make noise again. I felt a rough idle and slight vibration in the cabin, and the suspension squeaks. I can hear the rotation of the drive shaft, and when I needed the windshield defrost it didn't work. I would put the defrost on and cold air would come out. Now after investigation, the belt problem is obvious, it needs replacing. The rough idle and slight vibration in the cabin was also caused by the slipping belt. I noticed the vibration and sound would happen when the belt would move side to side slightly on the tensioner, and the tensioner would compensate causing rough idle and vibration in the car. The belt will be raplaced, and I'll check the rest of the drive belt system. The other issues like the squeaks on the suspension. Mechanics have told me to grease the joints. Now I know only some CVPI model years have the joints that can be greased. Do you Know if my 06 CVPI is one of them or do I have to replace the joints? They told me the defrost problem could be the core, and that cold air comes out because it was bypassed. Now the last issue. The driveshaft noise I hear when accelerating. I can hear the shaft's rotation, but it stops when I reach my desired speed and hold the gas pedal. Now the CVPI manual states that it's a high performance aluminum shaft, and some noise is normal. Is this true? Mechanics have told me it needs grease. Great video and thanks for the help.

It's important to get a rust free vehicle krowned or sprayed with oil annually if you want it to last. They rust in cold climates where salt is used.

darkstar9008 a good price range for that crown vic you just described is around $3500 ...the only time i would pay $4-5k if if the mileage would have been between 50-75k miles..thats why i dont buy from dealers because they have to make it more expensive so they can make a proffit out of it...hope that helps man

darkstar9008 it depends how bad you want it bro...i would take it for $3700 and no higher...but to be honest on craigslist you can find a decent one with a bit more miles for around $2500 and it will still last just as long

In one video you say under 120k in another you say under 150k in another you say under 170k and yes if the problem with the hvac controls is a vacuum hose sure it’s an easy fix but if it’s the blend door actuator it’s either you take out the dash yourself or you pay for a 6 hour job your also all over the place about idle hours in the end I’ve learned a lot for your videos and I thank you for that

My 07 with 150k had a knock on startup, and even worse after oil change. Found out it was the timing chain tensioner was weak. New timing components and runs like new, lol. Looks like just the clutch pulley went on your alternator.
