    I worked for Carnival Cruise Lines in the casino dept. for 3 years and sleeping with guests definitely went on regularly! My friend got busted by security once so the head of security called my casino manager and asked him if he wanted him fired! Luckily for him, the casino manager liked him enough to keep him on board!

      This is the question in the back of my mind. Why is it against two mature adults to see each other, no matter if they work or a guest?
      If I found a woman on a cruise and things got to that point. If she gets fired. I'll walk off the cruise with her and write a bad report.
      I'm a rebel. To me rules are meant to be broken. I don't believe in casual sex, or love. But I do believe in commitment.

You know the "dos" and "don'ts" of your status aboard and never tip your hand as to your personal opinion or behavior. It's all good information and shows that if you want to cruise on the "Love Boat", you'd best buy a ticket and be a guest. Love your videos!

    Hey Michelle!
    I've been thinking about applying as a cruise photographer/videographer and I was already getting super excited at the prospect, but now that I've watched through your videos I'm sure I've found my calling. I love that you haven't glamorized the life and made it look fancier than it is and that you're being honest with us about expectations and rules. It's real and that is what I needed to see. So, it's perfect, and you've convinced me to nail this job application no matter what! So Thank You for putting these out there.
    And hey, if I do get a gig and we happen to be on the same ship, we should collaborate on a video. Video is one of my main specialties and I can do some really good looking stuff with it. (PS: Considering some of the comments on here, I should clarify that I'm not hitting on you.... I actually kiss boys... but you seem cool, so we should collab).

Photo department is a lot of fancy formal/dining room photos and waking up early to take pics of families in new ports. If you want to be more creative- go broadcast. :)

    Cruise lines are subject to the laws of the country they are registered too while in international waters. So being on the ship, is like being in that country. Carnival Cruise ships are registered in Panama. In Panama, prostitution is legal, therefore while in international waters, it is legal onboard ship. It would be up to the cruise line to say if it's ok or not.

      Haha, thanks Bill! I am not a spokesperson, I merely speak my experiences. Some people ask for the 'truth' despite what I say, but this all is MY truth.
      We've been together since 2010 where we met, of course, working on a ship. In 2011, I quit working on ships (while he still did) for 5 years. I then went back in 2016 and we worked one contract together on the same ship. He has now made the switch to a new cruise line and whether I will follow and return again with another company remains to be seen ;) To quote Avril, "why ya gotta go and make things so complicated?" Hang out with the officers! Not where I worked. A few girls become the officers mistresses and disappear for a bit then the officers wives come on board. That's one way to move up the ladder when you're on board.

  • @ericjx
    @ericjx Před 7 lety +45

    Hmm, likewise in the military. Small percentage being female it was not uncommon for the new girl to be very popular. You could always tell when a new girl started because there would be a circle of guys around her. Especially on deployments. Problem is sometimes girls who weren't used to something like this would become incredibly big headed.. and when they'd get back stateside would be rudely awakened when all of those guys disappeared. Sounds mean.. but that's just how life is.

    • @wolfpackflt670
      @wolfpackflt670 Před 5 lety +2

      Yeah I second that, but from my experience women on deployments go pretty much insane. They are fine for the first month or so but then they tend to crack and the guys have to deal with them everyday.

    • @davidarango4679
      @davidarango4679 Před 5 lety +1

      I couldn't agree more with that. During my deployments the motto going around was, "what happens on deployment stays on deployment." The females were just eating it all up. It got to the point where even a few were prostituting themselves just to cash in it. Until the MP's found out.

    Questions:
    Best cruise line to work for?
    Do they pay for your travel to board?
    Crew bar, how cheap and how can you drink when you're working 12-15 hours a day?
    When is your down time? For how long? Days off?
    What are you able to do for fun? Especially when docking.
    Best positions(no pun intended)?
    What is the food like?

    Just happened to bump into your channel and loving these videos haha. I just did a contract on a P&O ship for 6 months and I feel like I could write a book based on that experience alone. A ton of drama - alcohol, friendships, arguments, sleeping around, very long working hours, mental breakdowns, you name it - it's like big brother only WORSE! I've made some life long friends that's for sure and it's been amazing for my social life; but I don't know if I can say the same for my mental health in some situations. The amount of breakdowns I had during that 6 months was very unhealthy but I managed to power through. In my personal experience, I definitely don't trust anybody in a relationship on ships and I wouldn't be involved in one myself after witnessing certain things. Thanks for the video! If anyone reading this wants to shoot me a message or ask any questions feel free; more than happy to tell some stories! :D

      AlexRider hey.... I recently got offered a job as a chef at carnival cruises... I read your comment and it said that the breakdowns are not worth it... I do suffer from anxiety sometimes and that’s the one of the main things stopping me from accepting the offer and other variables as well like being away from my family and friends. Besides my anxiety I am surprisingly very social and love to travel... is all the mental breakdowns worth it? Should I take a chance?

    • @lala-bt3nc
      @lala-bt3nc Před 6 lety +2

      Eric yes me and my wife are on the same ship but at first it was very difficult to get a cabin together as the number of male and female employees was the exact same and if we took a cabin together it meant that there had to be another couple who wanted to share and there wasn't however they fixed it after a month. They even encourage people to get their significant other on board because it means that the crew won't be as homesick and will be in better mood and therefore be better at their job.

    Hi Michelle. I did 4 contracts working, and working up, in the casino starting as a dealer. That was a long time ago and looking back I say "Wow, was that me1". It was something out of Animal Planet, especially for the people like me who couldn't work while the ships were in port. I had 4 cabin mates and it was strange. I thought the first one was slutty, then the next 2 were normal, and then it went full circle and I thought my last one was a prude. Did you have any "Officer Mistresses" on your ship(s)?

      @ekim andersom That is a highly uneducated response.
      Eve was tempted by Lucifer to partake of the forbidden fruit and did so, as well as her tempting Adam to do it as well. That is the original sin. Without that life would just be plain, no one would exist and nothing would have happened. There was no exchange of goods or exchange of anything. You should really read up your sources before saying something so off based like that. I am not even religious and I know this story.

      @jakkiahmaand married couples can stay together. couples can stay together if one of the 'partners' is of a rank where they have their own room anyway- basically they are then just inviting that person in. As for sleeping with people and having a roommate- you just have to get that done when you're roommate (or theirs) is working. In a twin bed. Sometimes on the top bunk. Good luck! haha

If he goes just stay present- have him Skype you, call you, stay interested. A lot of the breakups happen because the people at home are jealous their bf/gf is off jetsetting and so what should be a nice check in turns catty out of jealousy. They happen as well because unless you're in it with him (is that an option for you?), you really feel like people at home don't understand your life on board and gravitate towards the people who do (the other people onboard). So maybe just stay interested and loving, I guess!

      I trust him, and I know that he is an amazing guy I'm just scared of all the temptation you talked about. I am very happy that he gets the chance to experience working on a ship and I support him, but after hearing what you said, made me worried ( I've been cheated on before), I just need to be more positive, I guess.. I can't do the same, because I am in college, but after that who knows? Ahahah. Thank you for answering my questions, it's our firts time being this much time away from each other, that is also one of the reasons I am little apprehensive. But yeah, I need to be more positive! Have a lovely day.

    All the application websites say you have to be 21 to apply but I've found LOADS of sources (of varying reliability) that say they''d consider an 18+ year old depending on the position, maturity and their capability. Have you ever seen anyone under 21 working on a ship and if so what position? :)

      Some for sure try/do. But yeah. They basically are supposed to wait until their contract ends period. It's more for the cruise line/crew member's protection. A guest can turn around and say they didn't consent and then it opens all sorts of lawsuits against the company etc. Most crew don't want to get into that so they just sleep with other crew.

  • @burningblue1254
    @burningblue1254 Před 3 lety

    A few comments. First, 70 % of the crew is from Asia so they tend to stick together. So for that reason the 70/30 thing isn't really accurate. I would say its more 60/40 or even 50/50.

    Hi Michelle! I discovered your videos today and I'm thoroughly enjoying every one of them. Thank you ! ! !
    I've always wondered about the process of rehiring with a new contract after a contract is over.
    Does the former employee sit and wait to hear from the line or are they perhaps notified before the end
    of a current contract that they will begin a new one on a specific date?
    I know that many employees aren't faced with these issues very often but I'm sure that many many more are.
    What's the 411 ??

    • @MichelleTimrox
      @MichelleTimrox  Před 7 lety +2

      It IS possible...but if you do a second contract there's a chance you could be separated. You kinda go with the needs of the business. If you're MARRIED however, they tend to help that arrangement out a lot more than just couples. The exception to this is if you're looking at a job that must always be together for the job to work (musician duo/adage duo etc..these guys can be boyfriend/girlfriend and get on together no problem)

    Hey! I just started watching your videos so I apologize if i ask a question you have previously answered. I'm Canadian and looking to start working on a cruise before i attend college in September. 1) How much money would you say a Server would make each month, how much previous experience do they look for? are you allowed to accept tips? 2) are there any other employment services you use and are there better times through the year to apply? I'm not currently seeing a lot of availability for work with the Canadian Employment office you recommended in one of your previous videos :( and 3) i'm only looking to work until September, so should i apply as youth? Thanks for reading! I'm continuing to watch your videos to gather more Intel as you have been very informative so far

    • @MichelleTimrox
      @MichelleTimrox  Před 7 lety

      I wouldn't go in as a server. I'd always recommend going in as something in revenue or entertainment- and yes, most contracts are 6 months but you can get away with less if you are 'seasonal youth staff' whereby you're called on during busy periods for 4 week- 2 month stints (march break, christmas, etc). Technically I think you're *supposed* to pool physical tips- but if an envelope comes with your name on it, most people just keep it. You get tipped as a youthie too!
      Still apply even if they don't have anything up. Get a Life at Sea can also help! czcams.com/channels/4_evAY55BzOe1wdZSSdzmA.html . There may not be anything right this second as most lines (especially for youth staff) probably would have already hired for march break/spring break high season and they'd all be aboard right now- or about to board.

    I think it is pretty naive to believe the do not fraternise with the guests rule is about protecting the workers from any malice. It is mostly about classicism and the more well off guests not wanting to socialise with the help. It is also about the company not wanting their employees to forget their place by being allowed to freely socialise with the guests. An employee allowed to believe he or she is of equal social standing to a paying guest, which is the likely outcome of being allowed to freely socialise with paying guests, is much more likely to be an unruly and demanding employee. So the do not fraternise with guests rule is clearly not about protecting the employees, but about good ol' capitalism and the interests of the wealthy controlling it.

    • @lolwut6635

      Sorry but you are wrong. The policy is to protect the company and the crew member from liability. A spurned lover on the cruise ship has claimed rape theft assault etc. against crew members. It protects the company from bad publicity and litigation. As well as it is completely unprofessional. The leering crew members from the Love Boat is pure fiction. Crew are not to enter passenger cabins unless it is part of their duty i.e. cabin steward, room service, mechanical .....

      It's frowned upon only if you report to the officer directly. You can still date, but you have to make this known with onboard HR incase people start talking/ thinking your schedule is better and you're favoured etc etc.

      Sorry! I'm a bit unskilled here as while I knew the personal trainers from going to the gym, I was never super close with them to know their routine. Seems pretty OK though at first glance- looks like there's time off but some pressure as well as there's targets to hit- you need to get people into the classes/talks on weight loss etc and/or sessions to hit targets. It's a hard one to know a lot about as there are only ever really 2 people onboard doing the job- so I can understand why you can't find a lot of info! Maybe someone that has done the job will see your post here and can weigh in!

    Not related to this video, but what departments are allowed to be in the guest areas? I know that hosts are, but what about the performers for the night shows and for those guys, do you know what the performers do during the day since really they work at night?
    And how many times can you change ships in a contract? Do married couples get the option of working on the same ship if they're married at the beginning of their contract (like if they signed at the same time)
    Thank you!

    • @MichelleTimrox
      @MichelleTimrox  Před 7 lety +2

      The quick answer is all entertainment staff (hosts, production crew, youth etc), officers and those in revenue (spa, casino, shops, etc). If you know the difference between crew, staff and officers, staff and officers are allowed in guest areas. During the day performers sometimes rehearse in the main theatre (especially the day-of the shows, there's always a run through- even though they've done the show countless times), they also help with things around the ship where needed and some will do classes (dance classes by the dancers and choir by the singers) for the guests. At night, sometimes there are theme parties they perform in as well! You usually stay on the same ship for your entire contract. The only way you'll usually move is if something happens to someone and they need to send a replacement asap. Married couples can stay together, yes :) Unmarried, not so much- you can try, but they make more of an effort for married couples.

Thx

    • @MichelleTimrox
      @MichelleTimrox  Před 7 lety

      I didn't need a visa ever as I worked for an American cruise line- if you are going to a country where you need to get a visa prior to your contract starting, the company will advise you. If you are already on the ship and a visa winds up being needed, the company will help you get it (most likely EVERYONE onboard needs it and you all 'immigrate' in this instance).
