Ship Life: Dating

  • When working onboard a cruise ship, you will most likely get very close to many people. However, when it comes to relationships, there are completely different challenges than on land.
    Crew members may date other crew members, but fraternizing with passengers is prohibited. If your significant other or family are onboard your ship, as long as you get special permission from the higher-ups, you may be allowed to go into their passenger cabins, or even bring them into crew areas. Just make sure you know your allowances before doing something that could get you fired.

    My boyfriend and I are engaged before he went to work on a cruise ship with the goal of earning money for our wedding... We were together for 6years. 6 long years...but just 4months on board, he simply broke up with me through chat saying he doesnt know himself anymore and that he banged a coworker. This is probably the most painful year of my life. All my efforts of supporting him emotionally and financially were forgotten in an instant. Now I conclude, ship life is cruel. Even married men and women do casual sex on board with coworkers. I had so much faith on our love. But shiplife won. The pain is just too much. 😢 I am literally in tears while writing this comment. Its been a month since he broke up with me like I was nothing to him. It hurts so fucking bad. 😔😢

      oh girl, I feel you. I am sorry for you. I can imagine how hard it must be. But I wish you all the luck, all the love and happiness to pursuit a new love and to move on with your life. I have someone for 8 years now and I’m going to work on a cruise ship in three months and I am aware ship’s life is tough and unpredictable but regardless what I do or what I feel I intend to come back on land and proceed with my life and my babe because the support I’m receiving is huge and I will not disappoint or abandon my babe like this because I know how painful is gonna be... you will be fine. It hurts like hell but you will get over it. God bless you and help you on it. Focus on yourself!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

      My gf is getting involved with someone on the ship just 1 week after the contract and she is changed.

      Brother you say exacly what it is.
      I brought my gf to italy after my 1 contract with carnival cause that was not an healty life and environment.
      Spent thousand and thousand for this relatioship and now that she just started her contract i noticed that something is happening cause i clearly know how it works in there and i told her to refuse fuckers on board to protect our story but ive been accused of insicurity and jealousy
      Few days ago she was missing me saying come here to work and now magically she say 'you don't own me '
      I was really fighting for this relationship to take care of my gf,but as i knew before even telling her to don't fall in traps onboard,she just trow our story away for somebody that just met her trying to get some sex in the dirty cabins of that ship.
      I knew all this would happen and your words confirm all i always tought and told to everybody.
      Thank u brother

      I feel so miserable even until now 😢 its like I was just a piece of garbage to him. We had so many plans for our future 😢 I am a filipina, I may not be as pretty as anybody else but I respect my body so well that I need not to have my nose done just to be beautiful.. my fiance slept with a Thai waitres, single mom, with a fake nose and is outrageously aggresive (would go to his cabin uninvited, drunk just to flirt and convince him to have sex). He himself told me about how completely opposite she was from me and how dirty the woman was and that he will never sleep with her.. but he failed. He slept with her. He gave himself up to her. They even dated 😢 One day I woke up and I received a chat from him saying he’s done with me and that they are together already.. with photos of them eating and sleeping together 😔😢
      Yes, I admit. I wasnt a perfect fiance to him. We sometimes fight over the phone because I was also in the adjustment stage of the LDR thing. Both of us.. but I guess sleeping with other girl just to hurt me back isnt right 😔 its just not so right. We were so inlove.. but shiplife and sex won 😢

    Dating on the cruise ship is easyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Why? Because most of the women are single, and if they are attached, they are thousands of miles away and have no idea what is going on. The ship is got say 1200 crew. About 400 will be women but, 70 % of the crew is Asian and tend to stick by themselves. So the ratio is 60/40 even 50/50. The women are gorgeous. I have met so many nice women on the ship as friends even. It doesn't mean you are having sex with them, its just nice to socialize with them.

    Great insight mate and a great video. Of course you're a videographer! I've worked on ships on and off for five years and my biggest issue is how rife infidelity is on ships. You touched on it briefly but what is hardest for me is trust. I dated a girl for two months and then she dropped me for her 'boyfriend' who I knew nothing about. Turns out, the boyfriend also had a wife and two kids at home and she was his side hustle which she was perfectly fine to be.

    About privacy: I took a cruise that had a stop in Mare, New Caledonia. About the only thing to do in Mare is go to Yejele Beach (which is beautiful BTW). So while I was there--along with most of the other passengers from the ship--I saw that one of the entertainment staff (a man) was there with a woman who worked in one of the shops. ALL DAY passengers were coming up to them to say hello and chat for a few minutes. I felt so badly for them. I'm sure they just wanted to enjoy the beach together, but passengers would not leave them alone.

    My wifes Aunt does arts and crafts and her and her husband have been doing it for a few years now. They really enjoy the Ship life. Being they are well into retirement age, her job is more of a perk than an actual job. Her contract is pretty custom made and considered a specialty job. Much like booking a band or something.
    Its a specific cruise liner and probably arranged through a friend. I worked in a hotel and to me working a cruise line would be pretty much like working at a hotel. A high end hotel no doubt, but yeah. Lots of college age kids for sure work those jobs. I started as a dish washer at a hotel and worked my way into a maintenance person after going into a bus person job, then moving into a Top tier bus person job, then because I got to know the staff and during the winter slower months was offered a maintenance position when it became available. I knew hotel work pretty much from all aspects by the time I got out of the business of working at hotels. Dating was difficult in a hotel environment too. Most were college age kids, working their way through, then leaving. I met my wife while working the Hotel.

    I thought about working on a cruise ship until I saw an undercover documentary about how these ships with flags of convenience (eg:Malta) can end up paying you LESS THAN minimum wage and get away with it. Sounds like it really isn't worth all the hard work and long hours if the pay is so bad.

      @mseanprice Před 6 lety +4

      Anna Lohr hey. I think you should look into workin at summer camps. I worked At summer camps every summer during college. It gives you experience with activities and with kids. And a good second choice could be working on ships ad youth staff. If it’s hard to find an activities job. And then once you have ship experience you can move into activities staff.

    How do people get caught? I mean, is there someone constantly lookint at cameras looking for the crew going in the guests' rooms?

    • @CoffeeWithSean
      @CoffeeWithSean  Před 5 lety +2

      Luciano Classical Guitar yes. There is a department called Surveillance and it’s their job to monitor all the cameras. They work sort of in tandem with security

      I have another question, my buddy is working as a musician on a cruise ship right now and met a cute girl. He's docking on a port for 2 days or something, and the girl wants to get a room for them at night IN the city. Is this still illegal? Or once they are not on the ship these rules don't apply?

    • @CoffeeWithSean
      @CoffeeWithSean  Před 5 lety

      Luciano Classical Guitar tell him not to tell anyone and he should be fine. It is still against the rules. But in that situation he is much less likely to be caught.

    LOL! worked on ships for years. Yep, it's a fishbowl. And crew really loves to gossip. I apparently was have sex on the couch in crew bar with someone when acutally We were sitting on separate couches separated by couch ends just having a talk and finishing our drinks after the afternoon open bar hours. Not even nighttime! That was horrible to have walk that gauntlet.
    But I made great friends and had some great romance too. Great adventures. Cruise ships really make or break you. ON a lot of levels.
    But rule one was know what you want. Do you want surface level? Then I looked for someone that was ending contract soon. You don't want someone hanging around in puppy love with you and you can't get away. There was always another relationship trainwreck happening that would serve as cautionary tale for other crew.
    But fun topic and video. Very insightful.

      Papaya Papatya yes. But depending on the job and depending on where exactly that tattoo is. If it’s on your face. No. But I have one on my forearm and I was just fine. The Crew who worked in the Spa were not allowed to have visible tattoos. What job were You thinking?

      Bryce Wootton You would have to ask for special permission by the spa company. Unfortunately; the spa companies aren’t looking for cool hip stylists and fun interesting employees. They are looking to fill a mold so that guest service is the number one priority, not their employees.

    When it comes to crew dating, what are most companies policies on an Officer or Supervisor dating crew? Is it permitted so long as they are not in your department or directly under your supervision? Or are Officers forbidden from fraternizing with crew? Would suck if your an officer rank and only choice is other officers.

    • @CoffeeWithSean

      ThGreatFandango good question. I never really heard any rules about it. For me it seemed anyone could date anyone. But the direct supervisor thing sounds right. If I had to guess I would say that’s the big rule. Can’t date your direct subordinance
