Not just a great build but a really well put together video that must have easily taken as long to plan, record and make as actually building the speaker. Well done.
Thanks so much, Jon!
me too, my channel for diy
Greetings and salutations! Just a quick thanks, I am in the process of building a small FM/XM Satellite receiver to put in our motor home, for use when we are camping, and during our winter trek to Arizona, where we go to avoid the wicked snows of a Dakota winter. The process of building the case looked like the way to go for my unit, I have studied woodworking for several years, and purchased the tools to begin, but a back injury put me, on the bench, so to speak. I am just getting back into shape enough so I can once again get back to my shop and do some work. A touch of old timers disease has effected my memory so I need to review the steps to use my equipment safely, and I find videos such as your bring back memories of the right way to use the tools.
Your woodworking skill is impressive. For the screw, if you do a countersunk and flush with the surface it will be perfect. Really enjoy watching this video.
I normally can't stand video without commentary but the way you make your vids with the backing track and the text on screen done right really helps. I think you are an amazing at what you do so keep it up
Thanks so much, Winston!
And listen to one channel of your stereo source material. Brilliant!
I'm kind of a new to all of this, how do you get mono sound from a stereo amp or Is one channel connected to the woofer and the other on the tweeter? Btw Awesome Video!
It's impossible to not appreciate your attention for detail. Great stuff man :)
What we gonna do in a world without woods... such a beautiful thing
So true!
Hey kirby what did u add at back the black pvc type what was that? I just know it's for bass out from back of speaker but what is it called
I like that you used and have all the correct tools for the job!
I like the style...simple...but elegant. Reminds me of the Tivoli table radio...or the Boston Acoustics Receptor...great...simple radios with sound quality (from a single speaker) that will blow your mind.
Thank you! What a compliment!
I admire people who do things like this..is so amazing.
I have watched all of your episodes and I am very impressed.
Would love to see you do an add on video about making the speaker portable with a battery pack! Great stuff. Thanks for posting!
I def want to do that. Great idea! Thanks for watching!
Kirby Meets Audio рспот
Hey Kirby. did you ever make that video or would you have any ideas as to how we could make this system portable. I would def build it if I could make it portable power
Awesome videos, I have definitely lost a little sleep watching you make works of art.
Your videos make me feel peaceful.
Very nice. Wish you had some how to videos for when you don't have a machine shop. Not just theory, but actual builds like this one
A portable battery powered speaker would be a cool build. Like a minirig , high and low 3.5mm inputs and a dc barrel input for usb charging.
Hey, Nice work and real classy speakers. What kind of resistor / capacitor did you use for the tweeter? I can't find it in the "used items" list. (Link please)
those are some awesome looking speakers
Good call on the foam and the port. One question though, why not use a passive crossover on that tweeter?
As always, a pleasure to watch! Would you mind sharing a tip: how do you connect a tweeter and a full range driver on your amp without crossover?
Thanks for taking the time on this vid, and build. really impressed bro.
Thanks for watching, Walker!
Countersinking the screws would have made it a even nicer, but great stuff!!!
nice work. everything was very well made.
I would have countersunk the screws in the feet.
but other than that awesome build
Hey! Thanks! I actually use the screw heads as a level adjustment. Then add little felt cutouts to the heads to finish off the feet.
Love the design and finish of the speaker, I agree that screws on feet shout have been countersunk. I would love to build something like this but with bluetooth
I thought the same about the bluetooth. Luckily it's fairly easy to get a small bluetooth transmitter embedded into this system, if you're a bit handy.
spancer87 or you could buy an amp with bluetooth built in, worked fine for me 😋
Always wanted to make a stereo version of this. Looks great.
If I had all that equipment I would be making shit like crazy!! Awesome speaker and video!!!
I made my first speakers with only a drill, a circular saw, and a straight edge. Don't let equipment limit you!
Kirby Meets Audio I have a screw driver and some nails lol.
Hi Kirby! First of all let me tell you what a great job! Really I like to watch your videos. But the question is, how does the speaker is powered? I mean do you plug the speaker to the AC or use batteries? Thanks in advance. Regards ✌🏻️
all your builds are nice n clean. these are seriously quality stuff. i like all your videos
Thank you, Jerome!
You make it look easy, very well done, having the right tools always helps but you have skill and know how, great video
Thanks so much!
Hey Kirby, your videos are awesome. They reminded me why I became an engineer and you have inspired my senior design project. If you could do a video mainly based around the soldering/circuits that goes into speaker building?
Hello, I am a fan of their work, they are wonderful. What kind of wood you Usso this work? Thank you very much.
Dam Daniel!!
the tape shortcut just knocked me back into elementary.
Hi, I think you should have countersunk deeze screws in dem feet ;]. Nice speaker though ;]
They actually are countersunk! (didn't get into the edit) and those bits you're seeing on the bottom of the feet are felt circles. Thanks for watching!
this is amazing, the design is fascinating
im truly inspired by that, keep up the good work
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
Is nobody going to say anything about the great Sims music?
Beautiful video by the way :)
What is it the music
great idea, beutiful
Nice Kirby! I'm good with the wires and massive sound, but my wood works suck. All I have is a circular saw. What tools and wood lessons would you suggest for me if I were to attempt a piano black speaker box build?
Man!You have speakers hangin'from your ears :)
Great looking design, especially the Fawn in Heirloom & Redwood with Blue Pattern Cloth on your website. It inspired me to build something similar. I have an old radio with no real use anymore since the tubes died. Might make it look something like this.
This is my favorite kind of comment. Good luck! Thanks for watching!
Brilliant camera work! And excellent speaker build too. Love the speaker designs on your website (getting a privacy error on chrome, you might want to get that checked out?). Subscribed and following on Insta, looking forward to your future designs!
That's so much Barry! I'll look into that error for my website on Chrome, so strange.
thumbs up and sub just for the fact that this guy put in a lot of time and effort to create this video as well as all the items ( with links!) in the description.
Thanks so much!
He makes money of off the amazon links, he is an affiliate. That is why he posts them.
+HYPBRL Videography if you were his employer you would applaud the work that he is presenting
He seems to be a very good craftsman, I never doubted that. And he too has to earn money for buying all the stuff he presents. My statement wasn't judgmental.
Use a large drillbit to countersink your pilot holes so the screws are flush with the surface.
I made a few speaker boxes, and got a hold of some guitar amps to re-vamp them, the first ones I made, were with 100% solid wood like yours, but I always felt there was always something missing with sound quality, my solution was to make a sandwich from 1/4 inch hardwoods glues to 1/4 HDF board(MDF works to) . the hdf serves to help produce a richer sound from the speaker box, while adding stability to prevent, extreme wood movement, shrinkage and expansion with changing seasons. Im not saying what your doing is wrong by any means, i'm just sharing experience.
I agree. I've done the same thing in the past, mostly on softer woods like redwood, rigidity does make a difference in the sound. And THANK YOU for saying what I do isn't wrong although you do or think differently. Man I wish more people commented in this way.
that speaker is gorgeous great work
Very well built, good attention to detail with the timber work, but I also agree with a240386, I'm not a fan of the plain timber feet and the exposed countersink screws are an eye sore. Personally some nice round feet at each corner plus a nice round potentiometer knob would make it look amazing. Still, great video :)
Thanks so much! I appreciate the feedback. I agree, four round feet looks great too!
Great work brother, thank you for sharing and works like this help show others how they can use their creativity & imagination to make opportunities for themselves. Thanks again Kirby , Keep up the great work, blessing from Jamaica.
I don't know why I watch your videos. I'm not an "diy audio guy" but your videos are nice to watch. I think I want to try building my own speakers then.
Nice build. I used almost that exact set up installed in an antique radio. Love what you're doing on your channel so far. Not enough QUALITY audio/DIY channels. You should be very successful. Make sure you do more unique but simple builds that the average enthusiast can do with basic tools and materials. Maybe throw in some complex longer project videos once in a while. Great job and good luck bro.
Thanks so much for your kind words!
How do you run the single speaker off of a stereo signal? Do you just run both signals through the one set of wires? Love the videos!!!
Super awesome. Any simple yet awesome projects that one might be able to do well with just a circular saw and drill?
Thanks! Yep! I have a video on just that coming soon.
Thanks for another great looking video and speaker. Just curious about what type of woods you used in this video for both the box and front baffle? Also in general what type of wood you like to use. It may be answered somewhere else on one of your videos so feel free to point me in the right direction. Cheers!
I love these DIY items!
And your's are awesome, do what you do, coz you do it right.
Can you do a video-tour from your workshop, what setups you use, etc?
It pleasure to see wood cutting
Thanks!
beautiful job!
Nicely done! I liked the pacing of this video very much as well.
Great craftsmanship, you make it look effortless! The first video of yours I have watched, but clicked subscribe without even checking any others - can't wait to trawl through the rest for inspiration and ideas. Great work!
Thank you, Stephen! Welcome!
Great tip with miters and tape.
thanks for all the great videos i have been looking on how to build my own speaker and you have inspired me to do it.
I'm constantly amazed by you
Hey, I know someone named Jennifer! Is that you!?
+Kirby Meets Audio why yes, yes it is!
About the mono/stereo: If you only have the one channel (say Right) from the t-amp coming out from the "main" speaker, wouldn't that mean that you only get one part of the stereo sound when you just use the main speaker? like when you only wear one earbud when listening to music. This will give an incomplete sound. Or am I missing something?
Hey wanted to start by saying I love the videos they have been super helpful as i am trying to build a BT speaker and I have no experience in this. I bought the 50W Dayton KAB board (the 50W version of the one you linked in this video.) I noticed though that in this video you used a different amp. Using the board I have how do I get the 2.5mm plug to power the board or charge the battery extension board i bought. Thanks in advance for the help
Nice work! Can we hear it in action?
I love your videos, working on building a simple music player for my 6 year old son. I'm putting a Raspberry Pi Zero inside hooked up to a couple of buttons that trigger a python script that changes the song and outputs the audio via a little DAC.
These videos have been great inspiration for the box building. Unfortunately I only have a shitty IKEA jigsaw to work with so I'm not quite sure I'll manage to build something quite up to your quality. Looking forward to more build videos in the future!
Thanks, Andy! That sounds like an awesome project. I would love to hear how it turns out! You might want to think about investing in a cheaper circular saw to get nice strait cuts for the glue up. Heres an inexpensive one here: amzn.to/2aIZvar Good luck Andy!
wouldnt adding wave guides effect the way those drivers sound? also, I think for a BT speaker, having the speakers flush with the baffle would be better since youll get better dispression. The wave guides make them more directional.
Beautiful woods. Cut them. Shows nice finish.
then he painted the thing black DOH!
Excelente trabajo, es un maestro trabajando con madera y buen producto terminado los parlantes, si los vende estaría interesado en saber el precio. Saludos
so much fun watching your chanel.. mate... i have no idea about speaker at all .. you just make me wow
It would be awesome to hear how it sounds. Could you please make sound test videos?
Love your skills!
what did you connect between the tweeter and the woofer to filter the audio signal?
Hey Kirby, I was toying with the thought of making my own 3-way speakers both for the home entertainment system and as PC speakers. However I know that shape, volume and size are things that have a direct impact on sound quality.
Do oyu know of any resources that would give me enough info to make above el-cheapo quality speakers without getting a masters degree on the subject first? :)
Thanks
Very well done!
+uwannafighttttt Thank you!
Dave Picciuto sent me here. Subbed. Great work Kirby
Love your videos, only thing I would suggest is using a countersink to keep those screw heads below the wood level. Keep it up though man, great work.
hold up, just read the other comments... sorry bro
Nice work.
Awsome man ! like a pro.good job
Thank you, Cesar!
very nice build - I'm just looking to build a 2-speaker bluetooth box, how important is the rear bass port tube? 12V bluetooth audio amp powering 25 w speakers
Al Heeley putting in a port improves frequency response which is why woofers use it all the time and probably helps the speaker not sound shitty with all the sound bouncing around in the sealed box. Also helps with cooling i would imagine
Great to see someone make a video this informative. Wish I had these videos when I started tinkering around with speakers a couple of years ago. If you wanted to to simplify the wiring even more you might be interested in trying the TSA2110A. Haven't had one go wrong yet.
Is that just masking tape you're using when linking the cut pieces together?
Thanks, Pat! Sure makes some pretty great components. Yep! Blue painters tape works great as well, I just had this stuff on hand. It just needs to be able to hold the pieces together under a bit of tension.
Hello Kirby! Do i have to match the impedance of the woofer and tweeter? Or it doesn't matter?
All i know is that Capacitor Values change with impedance of the tweeter. Is impedance matching compulsory?
nice build and excellent video
thanks for the quick reply.
the prices are a bit too expensive for me though. since i am from Australia!
sophisticated crossover network you've got there :D
Haha The most sophisticated!
Loving the videos. My only subjection, not criticism, is the shallow DOF. Is a bit tiresome. Sometimes is way too shallow and it makes you want to focus with your eyes...
Brilliant channel.. hope to have my little shop to do my own DIY one day.. its so relaxing and love to work with my hands.
You should make your brand label and put it on the product... "Kirby Audio" or "KAE" (kirby audio electronics)
great project, next time seal the speaker with that foam to the walls but other than that its just an awesome build congrats:)
Thats a great idea. Thanks for watching!
I like the way you are making the boxes than the quality of the sound...
Bruh! I loved it!!! I want these skills!!!
Aside from building the box, did you put the components together as well, as in the circuit? If so, what components did you use and can you provide the circuit diagram?
Great aesthetics.
Thank you!
Hello, great video and good looking speaker, but the link for the crossover only shows a capacitor
Thank you! Yep, a capacitor is all thats needed to filer the tweeter.
very nice work man! thanks for the video!
Hey, nice job. After watching a couple of your vids i got inspired and im planning to do something like this (maybe with a full range speaker and one passive radiator, idk) BUT i want to make them portable (with bateries), do you think its going to be much harder??? any 3v battery would do the job or it needs to be 12v???
Hey man, this one's look sick! One small feedback from me - try something else instead of these black screws, they looks somehow "cheap" or "crappy", maybe something with hexagon heads will look more professional or at least try to make some countersinking before putting them in place. Cheers and good luck with your projects!
Do you have any videos on how to make studio-like active monitors? I need some good monitors with enough low end. Would it just be easier to buy an amp instead?
Make counter sink in the legs the Phillips head screws make 1/8inside the wood for prevent scratch the furniture
cool speaker! I was wondering what kind of watch you have? The watch band is cool too!
It's a super cheap guy made by Armitron, so I don't have to worry about getting paint and glue all over it. Heres the band: amzn.to/2aDixf2 Thanks for watching!
Yep, wondering that too. What watch is that. Casio G-Shock? Looks cool. ;)
Got it. It's Armitron 40/8247BLK. I thought it was the brand of the band.
I see others have asked but I can't find an answer: how did you get a mono output from the stereo bluetooth amp? If you simply only connected one output to the speaker you'd be missing half the sound. This would be especially apparent with old recordings like The Beatles where some instruments are almost entirely in one channel.
Love your work so much!! Brilliant! 🙂
Really liked the vid very nice finish to the work just 1 question though why leave the screws proud of the surface why not countersink the screws?
Thanks, Richard! No practical reason.
I have a Bluetooth speaker right now that I connected a bunch of other speakers to replace the audio from my TV.I want to make a better powers base for the speakers.any information on how to do this as a nice day..thank you..and your videos are good keep them coming
diy* not day
Hey Kirby, great build!! My passion about music meets the passion about woodworking so your videos are a great source of knowledge and inspiration.
As I'm not so good at electronics, I wanted to ask: how did you solve the problem of having just one speaker? Sacrifice one channel or merged the 2 after amp out?
Thank you, man!! :)
