Well, Welcome to Thailand! You probably won't get to hear "Oh Mcdonald had a farm" anymore, but the Thai national anthem will serve you at 8.00 am and at 6.00 pm daily. I'm a citizen of Thailand who had lived in the US for 24 years. Funny thing the first item I owned in the US is a Glock 23. One day I thought I had seen enough of the US so I returned home. Many of my American friends have moved to Thailand for their retirement, and most of them now reside in Pattaya and Phuket. They all said they wanted to have a peaceful life. Well I think they've got it.

Sawatdee krub Rojer 🙏 I would love some advice from someone like you.
Just a quick background I'm from California, hold a Bachelor's Degree, in my late 30s, and am interested in teaching English in Thailand. I visited the Land of Smiles back in 2006 and I miss it. My plan is to stay long term or even permanently. I can't afford an elite visa, and marriage is not on the horizon.
Do you suppose it's possible to arrive in BKK with just a few thousand and securing a cheap apartment (~$300) and surviving off $1k USD teaching English? I don't drink alcohol or party, but I know much of my spending would be cheap street foods and coffee.
Is it commonplace to begin teaching English initially but then move onto other ventures like business or E-commerce later on? I just like the idea of long term because coming back what be daunting considering the rising costs. California in my opinion is becoming uninhabitable for everyday earners.
      Thank you 🙏

Your decision to include your lovely wife, your parents and your nephew really adds a nice personal touch. All as good as, but most better than the others out there in Thai blogger land. THIS one, however I believe is the clip I appreciate the most. It's hearing the truth spoken by a man who took that leap, and who was kind enough to sit and tell us his experiences, practically laying out a road map that leads us to the paradise that is Thailand. You Sir, are on to something bigger than all the rest, those tourist bloggers wo hit and run, and the other ones who have seemed to run out of any new material to share, who are now blogging from other Asian countries. Not actually sure what the 2nd passport has got to do with moving Thailand, unless I’m missing something. The US passport gives more benefits than other countries (e.g. business formation). Would have been better off using the money for a 20 year elite visa

    • @antcap66
      @antcap66 Před rokem

A visa does not over ride your governments passport. If your government wants you to return to your country he will force you to return by cancelling your passport. He is concerned the US government will cancel passports in the event of the ensuing destabilization and wars happening around the world. Holding different passports and aligning with more peaceful nations won't affect any restrictions to future movement out of the US....very smart move if you ask me but if you trust what your government is doing to you then go ahead and only hold one passport

There’s a lot of benefits, that’s why I got saint lucia citizenship as well, but in his case an elite visa would have been better.
If you aren’t renouncing and plan to live in one country primarily like he seems to want to then it’s not really a must to pay for citizenship. But I mean it sounds like money isn’t a big issue for him, so if it makes him feel safer and more secure then I’m sure it was worth it…but he shoulda got an elite as well.

He can still travel there because he as citizens ship with a Caribbean country too so he would use that passport he doesn't actually have thai passport.

Hi 👋 You seem to have experience living in Thailand and I'd like to know your thoughts if possible.
      Thank you 🙏

Sometimes its hard to accept criticism. In USA, patriotism used to traditionally come from the right, but I see it from the left now too which is weird. You live in California for instance, but as someone that grew up there, it might have some nice things, but you're still paying a fortune for healthcare, and still part of the same sprawling empire that the rest of USA is a part of. Same government that saw fit to invade and bomb Iraq, Libya, or steal Syria's oil right now (not sure how that is even legal). For me personally, I want to live in a neutral country not involved in so many negative things.

A lot of what the right consider patriotism is actually old confederate ideas from the post civil war era, a bunch of sore losers. Patriotism in America has been hijacked by the maga movement. @@breezyrelaxation I'm not trying to offend you, but you have no idea. This guy is talking about financial freedom. More likely he's talking about taxes and as we all know, USA is one of the very few countries that taxes your worldwide income, even when living abroad. I know there's an exemption limit and you only need to tax the difference, but the difference between territorial taxes in Thailand on worldwide income (= 0) and the USA is pretty much the normal tax rate. And US has a lot of limits when it comes to banking worldwide. Pretty much every bank asks if you're an US resident which mostly results in not receiving the bank account. European passports in general are far more powerful than than an US one. And Japan, Singapore, South Korea etc. have much better passports. But it all depends. US gives you a lot of opportunities but not really abroad.

@@multa7053 The idea also of giving up citizenship and you talking about the other ones that are better, sure..But the process to get legal residence or citizenship to those is almost null if not years.
Taiwan offers a 5 year program which is one of the few in Asia, Here in Thailand there is a long term buy in resident program, Japan is STARTING to offer more than marriage.
Ether way, I really think you miss understand the power of a passport, it's not about how many countries it allows you. To renounce a citizenship from a nation that controls the global dollar and trade also having large impact globally is no good
And for tax reasons makes no sense, you are STILL taxed 5 to 7 years after you renounce and that tax per Obama admin ONLY affects those 124k + a year meaning if you are an English teacher in Thailand you are NOT paying US Tax....
I get this guy's logic sure and he sounds like he has a lot more than the adverage do but to dump the US passport is stupid
and what are you going to change it to? EU? That'd dumb, seriously it is
To an Asian Nation, even dumber as most run under the umbrella of communism.
There is a HUGE difference between running and improving, I see what this guy did and good for him but I also see the flaws in the logic.
This comments are talking about dropping US Citizenship, he kept his and has a plan B, this is logically way smarter.
Per example and I also gloat it when it comes up because its funny, as a US Citizen that I am, I have a Switzerland bank account.
It isn't loaded with millions but I have it, and it's fun. It's also under my St. Knitts passport/residence
When I travel SE Asia I use my Thailand residence, when I go about South America I use my American passport as we get 6 month visa stamps for free.
ether way dropping the US Citizenship is stupid, even the rich of the rich do NOT do this, they plan B it but never DROP plan A...
Ether way not offended at all, I just find that most lack education of this process, it's purpose, and the values of it.
This guy in Thailand seems to have figured it out for the most part, but the idea of "Running" never solves problems ether
I got my Plan B back in the Obama Era after getting out of the Military, Obama was a Trash president focusing on global problems and how many bathrooms we can put in a Target, so I got a back up...
