Now, I hear a lot from people who falsely believe that living in Thailand is difficult OR that they have to horde extraordinary sums of money in order to do it...
Moving to Thailand is not a difficult as everybody tries to make out.
The advice that Iâm giving you in this video is not for everyone, of course, every individual has different circumstances and different requirements in life.
My goal is NOT to encourage you to be irresponsible, but rather, to point out that there are two extremes to this argument and on top of that there's an army of people out there who DON'T want you to succeed and who HATE that you have the courage that THEY lack.
If you are planning on moving to Thailand then you should have some savings in the bank.
You should have enough to get you home.
And you should have enough to pay for medical insurance, etc.
ButâŠ
You donât have to wait until you are as minted as Warren Buffet BEFORE you move to a country where the cost of living is a THIRD of the country that you ALREADY live in.

My wife who is originally from Thailand built our home in Northeast part and in that region it doesnât take much to have a less stressful life compared to the states
Would be interested in a humble home.
Hi, if you're on a spouse visa, do you need to leave the country after certain time?
Reasonable budget for Chiang Mai and most parts of Thailand except Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya and touristic areas. It is not budget prevents people from moving, it is the fear.
And my dogs đ
Bangkok a 1 bed apartment is ÂŁ200 a month still very affordable
@@Alex-ez6zk seriously?
No it's the budget
Me is the FEAR đ”âđ« i hate it
I'm 24, Scottish, I speak Thai fluently, have a Thai fiance and we travelled around Thailand around 4 months ago, but I can see why it's hard to move to Thailand. It's so money orientated, Thailand wants your money but they don't want you is what I take from their visas and restrictions on foreigners buying property.
How did you learn Thai? Workbooks or did you go to a tutor?
$1000 is actually too much, I struggled to blow more than $700 When I lived for a month in Chiang Mai. I finally decided to relocated to Thailand on the second of April. Thank you Brett
My rent was about $300 for 30 days. they usually give you a discount for long stays
What visa are you getting? I know the STV visa is 9 months but you are required to leave. I truly want to live in thailand for at least a few years but there are no visas that last that long and don't have strict requirements. I'd like to move around but having an education visa requires you to go to class in one city.

Excellent advice. I kept myself from moving there in 2007 cause kids back home. Later remarried someone who holding back my freedom...we all have choices even with covid, rest is just excuses. Point is its possible if you really want it. Like me, just have to do it. CHANGE is scarry yes. Work from home? That can be anywhere. Lower cost to live allows to save for travel and retire earlier. Thanks for video, cheers!
Beautiful natural sounds. Can't believe it bothers you. Would love to wake up to that.
Well escaping Australia may be the most complicated part
We have a very small window of opportunity now. I donât think people realise where this country is heading.

I am a single man who lives in a major city in the southwest part of the USA. It is very difficult for me to spend over $1500 per month. My car is paid for and l have a 1 bedroom apartment, thats not in the slums. Don't eat out much and l have a few women who spend a little time with me every month. I barely drink any alcohol and l will attend live events that I like. If I can spend less than $1500 in the USA, should easily be able to live off that amount or less in Thailand.
@Kam Y the shirt on your profile pic is already a multifold of 20 bucks. What are you trying to say? That you would move to Thailand to beg and steal?
Been watching your videos on and off for the past 2 years. I love the way you explain things. Very thorough and realistic. Funny at times, but in a good way!
Looking forward to more of your videos. Great informative content!
Thanks Brett for the free class. Iâm a new subscriber, absolutely love your content.
Great advice . Chiang Mai is one of the areas that I'm interested in once this virus crap is over. Stay safe man.
You think this virus crap is going to be "over" never my man..it is too politically useful
What a fantastic motivator, you are.. all off your vids are so so.. motivating, thanks a million..
Great advice,thank you!
This is probably single handedly, the video that made me make up my mind ! Thank you I needed to hear this !!!
Brett thanks for another useful video.
Great advice Brett, thanks for that mate.
Thanks. Planning to roll the dice once the boarders open. About to start a second website to diversify from the technical issues that pop up from time to time. Cant wait.
Great stuff, encouraging , honest , no bull . Thanks
excellent video buddy - thanks
Good on ya mate, you have it sorted.đđ»
Hi Bruv, a good informative video hopefully it will take away some fears for people. Take care GOD Bless you and yours. M
An absolute great inspiring video!!!
Good to see you back Brett! I think you're absolutely right. Some people want to bubblewrap themselves and try to think of every possible disaster that could befall them (thought the 3 motorbikes at once never crossed my mind! đ€Ł). But the end result of all that over thinking is paralysis; they end up doing nothing. I moved here July 2019, and I've not looked back. I sold or donated all my stuff and came here with three suitcases and a backpack at 57 yo. Divorce was my motivator for the changer of pace. I read a couple of comments about visas, and it might be good for you to revisit that issue some time. It is a pretty fluid situation on that front here in Thailand. I'm on a retirement visa, and so far so good. Cheers!
Nice one Bret. Positivity is key...
Just came across you, video just what I needed, Iâve decided to move to Thailand and your info has really helped , straight to the point lol , thank you x

Planning on moving to Thailand aft the end of March! This was comforting, because I've always been worried I wasn't saving enough.
Thanks Brett for the advice đđ
Great informative and very inspirational vlog, thank you very much.
But what about your visa? Are you on student visa ? ( learning thai language)
Or is it another kind of visa?
Great inspiration! What visa should one apply for? Thank you, Brett.
Very good video thanks
very encouraging Bret thank you
Great video Brett ,just a quick question, how much is your health insurance and does it cover covid
Thank you for this video... I am fearful of things not working out especially with visas etc but this video gives me more hope it will work out.
When the average Thai earns less than ÂŁ5 a day it begs the question why people think they need so much money to come and live here.
Usually someone from the past in their family has a property or two, of which they live in (usually several related family members)...but they're cash poor working people. I've seen it all the time, all over Asia.
ÂŁ5 a day? So why is everybody have an iPhone in Bangkok?
@@dfilion3 1.Works in the capital tends to pay more. If we're talking about average Thai, there're people outside of Bangkok in the equation. 2.Other cost of living is also low. 3.Every place that sell phone let you pay in installment 4.A lot of people prioritize getting a new iPhone over better apartment, food, etc. It's very common for someone to always have the latest iPhone who lives in a cheap box rented room and eating a 7 baths instant noodles for 70-80% of their meals.
You can eat for ÂŁ5 a day nothing else
Cuz they donât want to live like the âaverage Thaiâ.
Planning a move... love your vids!
When Brett talks about how easy it is to just move and get a client then move to Thailand, and I am just watching from my country with tears in my eyes because our economy is literally fucked and monthly salaries are almost around $300 right now, it helps makes me dream and have hopes. I wish I can do this today, I'll probably try my best soon to start planning it... first step, get a job online.
Wow brother thanks huge inspiration
Forever inspiring me to live in Thailand, living my dream! Thanks for the great video again mate
Great video mate, what are you main sources of attracting clients?
Excellent. I really thank you.
Watch out for that dengue! Great video man! Got me thinking again.
lol, I love it. I agree 100%. Keep up the great work.
This is great Brett. So I could come if I quarantine in some hotel for two weeks? I have been vaccinated with the Pfizer Covid series. Do they take that into account?
Love the birds sound, it does not bother me rather creates a natural vibe
Thank you for sharing, I found your information very informative. I am an American laying the ground work for making that move to Thailand and bringing my consulting business with me. Currently gathering all the information that I can.
You should do a video on what visas nomads are using at the moment (especially during covid) as I know border runs are off limits right now. I myself have a long term Thai partner and a stable income, but many people may struggle to work out logistically how its possible, visa-wise, to stay put. Decent vids!
Exactly. Living on 1000$/month is the easy part. Finding a visa that will allow you to do so.... Good luck!
This is exactly what I just commented about.
â€ïž that bird is in all over in Thailand đ you can hear everywhere its voice. Its a cuckoo family đ
It's a c***
I got a noisy bird too. Freakin PITA. I'm told Thais call it a "Nok Ka Wow". See my channel on YT at (t5taxi) for a 06:30am film I did about it recently.
Whatever that bird is... We have it here in Australia, the exact same bird... I hear them all the time.
@@DoubtingThomas333 The one in the video is an Asian Koel. In Australia we have the Eastern Koel. Closely related.
I love the bird's call, as it reminds me I moved my life to somewhere amazing with a warm climate, and am no longer stuck in a cold and miserable country.
Currently in the process, and my biggest hurdle is getting rid of all my stuff.

Brett, Iâd love to hear about your sales funnel since you live in another then where your clients live.
How do you service your clients with your current time zone and how do you consistently get business?
Simply forget about normal bed times and regular 8 hour days with commutes.
I would love to learn more about how you did it. I can only seam to watch 1 of the other videos
This is so helpful. Thank you so much. Iâm so fed up being so tired after working 40+ plus hours a week and never having time to do things I love. Iâm going to make the move! I love Scotland but until I earn a higher salary life just isnât happy. But even when I picture myself earning more that still come with working more so the cycle doesnât end.
I'm from the UK also and planning to move to Bangkok this October but my main concern and stress is over what visa to get. Just seems like a money trap or complete stress that's always going to tie me down somewhere also with the risk of not getting renewed
Which visa did you get then mate?
Thanks for your common sense approach to solving problems.
Hi Brett. Good inspiration and you're absolutely right because I have been dreaming about moving to Thailand for a couple of years but have exactly been thinking off what you're describing about having a good job and being affraid about the income if I'm moviving out.
I'm a Network Enginer for a living but are also doing som hobby website with that purpose to be good enough to live of it when I retire late next year and need some extra to my pension.
Do you have a good idé where to look for jobs, is it on FIVRR or similairy sites I find it?
Planning the same mate. Although retirement is a few years off.
I was thinking of moving over there teaching english and then applying to jobs online once im over there. I'm a business analyst. Not sure if there are a lot of remote BA jobs. Any thoughts on teaching english in Chiang Mai?
Good points. As someone who has worked as an ex-pat full-time freelancer for 13 years now, you can definitely make an average of 1K per month if you stay focused, but the problem with Thailand is not just the rent and living expenses; it's the damn VISA. If you're on an ED visa, you're gonna spend about 50K baht per year. Another potential dealbreaker for many (myself included) is the fact that it seems you now need insurance just to get an extension (you need to extend your ED visa every three months even if you make a 1-year deal with a school), frequent policy changes and new restrictions notwithstanding. Would be nice if someone has found a solution to this for Chiangmai (or other areas). Thai laws literally change on a weekly basis and are often confusing and disjointed. Basically, if you're from a western country, probably not a good idea to set your mind on staying there for the next 20 years, unless you've found some kind of visa deal I haven't heard of (unlikely), or are willing to spend 30K USD on the Thail Elite visa (20 years) or 18K for 5 years (going up to 20K next year). Then of course there's marriage, but that comes with it's own risks I guess.
Basically, China is gaining a stronger and stronger foothold in the Thai gov, and they clearly DO NOT want westerner's there anymore. So unless you have a minimum of 16K to stay there for 5 years, or are married, visa is going to be a headache. Btw, even the O-type (retirement) visa has just become a LOT more restrictive and many retirees are leaving for the Phillipines due to the new financial and insurance restrictions.
Good luck guys.
Iâm glad you added this vital information. I was on the verge of packing a bag and booking a flight. Youâve probably just saved a few people from getting themselves into trouble.
I remember living in Thailand and hearing that bird at 0:17 every morning and sometimes during the day too lol
I plan on moving an hour away from Chiang Mai, no clue about this client stuff but would love to come visit you and learn! I would most likely just outsource the jobs lol
Hi thanks so much your right Iâve been using excuses and over thinking this for years now you broke it down you given me the confidence to go for it
Booking our one way tickets for end of March
I can do this after 50 years of overthinking
May be able to thank you when I get there
If you fly in and stay at a quarantine hotel, then after 90 days do a visa run, when you come back, do you have to do the quarantine hotel again?
Whatâs the visa situation in Thailand? Come in on a special tourist visa for 60 days, renew for another 30 days ...then what????
I'm ready to move over as soon as the pandemic is over. Is it hard to come over on a tourist visa and then just stay for good and go through the application process while on tourist visa?
What kind of travel/medical insurance do you have?
I don't know why, but this is probably my favorite video you ever made.
Id lovve tto ask u more, about yoir work. Great vid mate.thinking ofmoving therewith the fam
Bro, thank you so much
you are the man and you are so right
I thought it's hard to find a job online but I never did what you are saying reaching out to 100-200 employers and actually trying
Fuck knows how did I convince myself with the idea of being so hard
thank you dude
I'm sure $1000 per month will serve you well but it's also true (and you do mention it) that one needs to live a sensible life also. For my part, I lived in Spain for 3.5 years with about âŹ1500 each month. That's fine but it did spiral quickly out of control at times. And you have to take into account non-daily expenses. Insurance. Health. Things going wrong. Stuff you have to buy. Buffer. Visa runs.
If you DO plan on living on $1000 per month in Thailand then make very sure that you've got the basics covered and make sure that you've got a buffer that you don't touch at all unless you really need it one day. If something happens and/or you suddenly need a good chunk of cash and you don't have it then you can find yourself in real trouble very fast.
Best of luck to all adventurers out there.
Thanks very helpful. How do you get a visa to live there long term? And how does healthcare work, do you pay private?
Hi Bret, just watched this. If I were to work remote for the same company as I do now in the uk, what if any are tax implications HR issues etc? They seem to be open to the possibility
If you stay working for the UK company, you should ask them to keep paying your UK national insurance. That covers you for the UK pension. But you can register as non-UK resident if you follow the time out of the UK rules and then you will get a NT (No Tax) tax code. All your employer then does is to comply with that tax code. Been working around the world since 1980 so I speak from experience.
Ive been to thailand 7 times now. I kived in chiang mai for a year in 2015 after being let go from teaching position i never obtained. Im definitely working on getting back but still stumbling around on a few things

Great video ! What if i am not familiar with making money online ? I never had a job online and dont know how and where to start. Lol
The monthly expenditure isn't my concern. It's having enough money in the bank for a long term visa. My monthly income satisfies the requirement. Don't they want you to be able to show $10,000 in a bank account? Or do you just have to prove income? Thx

So do you have to pay any taxes in Thailand?
No matter what your slice of the pie in the sky is, there will always be a "Chicken Little" complaining about its falling around him. Do what you do and as long as youre comfortable with it and it pays the bills, keep on doing it, nice vlog.
What does it cost for a night of going out drinking for 3-4 hours with friends? I may want to do that more than once a week.
It's hard to imagine how much I could earn online. Now I am working 40 hours a week, working online besides. But I am tired after a day's work. Could I work for 20 hours online? We will never know till I do it. Inspirational video Brett. Cheers.
