Live Action Remakes Need To Stop

  • A young boy known as the Avatar must master the four elemental powers to save a world at war and fight a ruthless enemy bent on stopping him.
And that’s how Netflix adapted thought to summarize Avatar the Last Airbender, a complex show about personal responsibility, destiny, balance, and so much more.
And there are plenty of other awful live-action adaptions of some of the best anime’s, like the Deathnote and Dragon Ball movies. But why are some adaptions bad and others just straight up incredible?

I have to give you props. The topic of live action remakes is such a vast puzzle, and this video is a very in depth analysis of one piece.

I was pretty skeptical about the live action series but I'm honestly just sad about it. I feel bad for the actors because they're doing a pretty good job but the actual script they're going off of just doesn't have any life to it. Katara has absolutely NO character whatsoever and on top of that she magically is a master of water bending.. This takes away from her original character where she had to work twice as hard compared to Aang which made her more motivated. They also took out the part where they buy the water bending scroll from the merchant, which was replaced by her grandmother giving it to her right away. This removed half of a good episode that explored Katara's character quite a bit. It showed how dedicated she was to actually learning by stealing the scroll and sneaking away in the middle of the night to try and work on her form. They made Sokka completely "normal" and "unsexist" which removed the entire point of meeting the kyoshi warriors and having them humble him. He doesn't make the same jokes or almost any at all. He seems like a more "matured" version of Sokka that isn't even him with how much they changed. I've copied this word for word just to show how much they've removed the character depth of Aang. "To make ‘AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER’ a serialized drama, Aang will not go on many detours looking for adventures like riding the elephant koi." Now some people may say this is good as it removes "filler" from the series. I see this as a bad attempt to change the story that ultimately takes away from the character growth of Aang as a whole. In the first series his whole mindset is goofing off without thinking about his real responsibilities. later down the line in the next two seasons is where he actually starts to change his mindset to training his powers.
In conclusion, this live action series is an attempt to make a kids cartoon more serious and tailored toward a "mature' by removing all character growth and depth as a whole. They do this by making the characters more "acceptable" to todays culture as to not offend anybody.
Ok I'm done ranting, time to watch through the animated series again.
Also we don't talk about the fact I literally made this entire thing in like ten minutes just from the pile of anger stored in my head from the plot points they missed and screwed up with the changed characters.

I am here because Drew algorithm.
Also can adults respect animation already? Animation is a perfect medium to tell stories like Guillermo says.

US market finally caught up w/ Japan's numerous live action adaptation. The best we do don't get emotional and make fuzz about it. Like treat these like supplementary rather a main course.

Would you say that the Avatar adaptation was so infuriating, that it made you… Aangry?
Leave the live-action adaptations to Disney, thank you very much. /s

One Piece blended the ridiculous energy of the original and added a mature vibe. Deserves the praise. Avatar simple failed to bring any feeling. It was like a firework show, then poof it was over, but the problem was the audience ate it up!

It's pronounced Loo-fee. Not Laffi. Great video btw 👍🏻 Also if you haven't watched one piece, you definitely should. It's peak.

maybe skip the avatar addaptation, that's fair, but don't sleep on the One Piece addaptation, that thing was great. from what I've heard, they had the original author basically breathing down their necks while making the show, if he didn't agree with something, they'd redo everything.
then again, considering how popular and valueable the One Piece name is (about $20 billion, according to google) , they quite litterally could now afford to fuck it up. If they'd made the One Piece addaptation into another death note, that could have spelled the end for Netflix.
    So at least watch that.

They really gotta stop trying to cater to ppl who refuse to watch animation. If they can't suck up their misplaced pride and watch "a kid's show" then they don't deserve to know these stories.
    However....we live in a capitalist society. 🥲
