Some of these show will show some nice furniture etc. and then offer to leave it if you pay them for it. I can only imagine the cost. I had a co-worker who had a local contractor re-do their kitchen/family room then offered to do other renovations for a TV show. They only wanted to spend $100,000 but the show wouldn't consider it unless they signed up to do $200,000. That was a big nope. I also used to walk my dog past The Property Brother's first build here in my hometown. It was actually a bit of a hot mess even from outside. I could see a potential major leak waiting to happen in the roof from out on the sidewalk.
We know that if we're looking for "reality TV", HGTV is not always the best place to look. Some couples on House Hunters have already bought their new place. Some of the renovation stars get videoed with a hammer in their hands, and then the crew moves in off-camera to finish the project. Things aren't always what they seem. Kinda like the Internet.
Great video! Thank you for putting into words the similar energy these kind of shows had with Mr Beast-like videos, I can see now why they kinda ring a nostalgia bell in my head somehow.

YOU KNOW THEY DO NTO EVEN TELL THEM HOW MUCH LAND AND HOUSE TAX,S IS GOING TO BE ALSO... AFTER THE COUNTY AUDITER CAMESN AND INSPECTS IT .... AND THEN WE GOT INS . OF HOW MUCH IT WILL BE COVERED FOR..... AND IF IT IS IN THE CITY THAT IS ALSO CITY TAX AND EVERY THING..... THIS LEADS UP TO 1000 DOLLARS FOR EVERY 6 MONTHS...
Many of the houses are both badly designed and impossible to maintain. McMansions on steroids owned by people of modest means does not a happy mix make. Plus, every one of the kids' bedrooms was a gimmick, and that is never going to age well. There was never a long term sustainable factor built in. On top of that, one time taxes would be levied followed by permanent increases in home insurance, property taxes, utility costs, and the list goes on.
