I've always thought the pier is meant to substitute for the land crossings permanently. The next step will be US-Israel announcing the permanent closure of the land crossings. The plan is to turn Gaza into Alcatraz where the only access is from the sea.

I think this "pier" has two purposes...
1. It's a way to drag the American military into actively participating in the genocide, I expect the Israelis to carry out some kind of false flag... maybe they'll attack the Americans and blame it on Hamas, it wouldn't be the first time they tried something like this (USS Liberty).
2. If it's really going to look like the ridiculous visualization posted online about a month ago, I wouldn't be surprised if they forced all of the Palestinians onto it and let it drift off to sea.
