    To whomever sees this post. I recently reached out to Eric for a mod on a SNK809 and it was the best investment I have made to date for my collection. It took some patience, on my part, to wait for the watch to come in, but it was well worth it. Eric provided a very well made piece and you only need to speak to him once to know that your timepiece is in great hands

    The fact that there's few mods for the 013 is mostly what's keeping me from picking one up... Although, I really would like a compatible handwinding movement in the same, modest sized case... I would be turned off by how thick it is, but if there a smooth angled bezel (might have to be custom machined), then that would work too get it under a cuff...

    Haven't seen you post in a while. Good to see you back. maybe too busy with mods and personal matters? anyways..
    Nice mods. I have toyed with the idea of modding an skx013 after doing a lot of the larger SKX007/009. Actually bought one to mod, but cancelled when I realized a number of parts I was planning to use won't really work.. at least 100% the way I'd like them to.
    Yes, I really hope aftermarket mod parts companies make more parts for the skx013. It's a pretty good platform to get a sub-40mm dive watch case to mod with.
    Definitely need more bezel insert options.. and more bezel rings themselves as well. I would take more bezel insert options first as there are currently just enough bezels I could use for the SKX013.
    Next, the dials is perhaps the next major issue.. well, it wouldn't be such a problem if it weren't for the chapter ring. You can use almost any dial to mod with provided you remove and replace the chapter ring with an aftermarket one that isn't so small to open up the dial so the edge and indices near the edges won't get cropped or otherwise too close to the chapter ring.. which would be the case with the stock chapter ring.
    BUT, the aftermarket rehaut/chapter rings are plain. They come in a variety of colors and finishes. BUT, they do not have any minute markings. That is a problem for me. It wouldn't be as big of deal if the dial has minute markings around the outer edge of the dial, which some do, but VERY FEW have them. They usually rely on the chapter ring to provide the minute markings. You could use any dial that doesn't have minute markings around the edges. BUT, would pretty much only be able to set the time at 5 minute intervals.
    Ok, I take that slightly back, you could use the dive time bezel's minute markings alternatively if the chapter ring does not have it. But, I personally don't like that. 1, the minute markings on the bezel are a bit too far out to set.. Close enough, but I don't like doing it that way. 2, imho, the dial should always have minute markings to set the time at any time and read the time more precisely at any moment. If the dial doesn't ,then the rehaut/chapter ring should provide it.
    I don't understand and don't know why aftermarket skx013 chapter ring/rehaut makers don't make some with minute markings? would be great to alleviate this problem.
    Other than the bezel, bezel insert, dial and rehaut/chapter ring, the rest is workable. Can easily swap to an upgraded movement. I think all hand sets should work in the SKX013 and not be too long. If switch movements, you'll probably need a new crown stem to match.
    I don't know for certain if any aftermarket crowns will work on the SKX013 case, though? 1) Are the treads the same? probably 2) Is the space between the crown guards smaller so you can't just use like an SKX007/009 crown? Must use the stock SKX013 crown or an aftermarket crown specifically designed (smaller?) to work with the SKX013 case? It might be ok with SKX007/009 crown parts.
    And, there may be a lack of aftermarket bracelet options as well... talking about bracelets with curved endlinks to fit the SKX013 case profile perfectly.

    • @LumeShot
      @LumeShot  Před 5 lety +1

      Hey Wing! Thanks for the continued support and for the thoughtful comment as always. I appreciate it! I'm trying to get back on the flow of things to create more content. I agree; the lack of options for the SKX013 is a huge turn off from modifying it. If there were more options available I would modify one for myself in a heartbeat. Recently lcbi has been putting out sapphire bezel inserts; I also believe there will be the SKX013 options too if there isn't already. Looking forward to trying some of those out soon. As for the dial, I also noticed that problem. I prefer to have my indices on the chapter ring if possible since it makes the dial appear a little bigger and cleaner; I would love to see crystaltimes create an etched chapter ring for the SKX013 (they only have one available for the SKX007/009 variants). As for the movement upgrade, the crown is definitely something different. The standard SKX crowns cant be used since it doesn't fit in between the crown guards on the 013. Luckily crystaltimes has crowns specifically for the SKX013. I can't say for sure about the threads since I never got the chance to even screw on a regular sized SKX crown due to the crown guard restriction. And the bracelet... yeah I would love to see uncle seiko make a steel Z199 bracelet for the SKX013.

    • @khronokraze
      @khronokraze Před 5 lety

      @@LumeShot Yeah, you get it. I must have a marked chapter ring and I do hope CT makes sapphire bezel inserts for the skx013. At least if those 2 are addressed, I think there will be enough for me to attempt an SKX013 mod myself some day. As it is and what I want to do, it's a bit limiting and not worth my time to get into it if I can't get it exactly (if not a lot closer) to the way I'd personally want an SKX013 modded. Hope to see more stuff from you soon.

    • @Milofchg
      @Milofchg Před 5 lety

      @@LumeShot My biggest wish for SKX mods would be a no-day date OEM dial or an aftermarket OEM style no-day date dial for both the SKX 007/009 & SKX013... This would be a sweet spot for many SKX fans. Many of us prefer no day date window dials. As for myself the only date complication watches I have is the SKX and a Date Just. Everything else my Seiko Tank, Cartier Tank, Speedy pro & reduced, Submariner, & Reverso are time only.

  • @d3xmeister
    @d3xmeister Před 5 lety +1

    I never ,,upgraded,, the movement since I have no use for hacking and handwinding besides that the 7S26 is pretty much identical and the ones I have work great, so why risk swapping with one that may not be as well adjusted or lubricated. So I would say think if you really really NEED the NH36 because there are risks involved with swapping it and with the luck of the draw (especially if you have a great 7S26)

    • @LumeShot
      @LumeShot  Před 5 lety +3

      Not necessarily! The NH36 movements are also calibrated before sold. I would be hard pressed if seiko didn't plan on doing some basic type of check to see that the movement is within specifications during the assembly process. The 7s26 and NH36 would then have the same chances of being looked at with the same amount of attention (A new movement off the seiko factory wouldn't be off lets say by 5 minutes unless its a faulty movement). Thus, the NH36 (4r36 equivalent) movements are oiled and adjusted probably to the same degree as the 7s26. But of course if you do end up with a nice 7s26, it may be a trade off to let that movement go for a new NH36 movement. They'll both be within movement specifications in terms of accuracy, but its all luck in the end. But if you look at it this way, the NH36 and 7s26 can both be regulated so they have the same potential to have identical accuracy. The only difference is that the NH36 would then be superior since it has hacking and hand winding.

    I have a modded SKX009 with a Murphy smooth bezel, and a StrapCode Oyster bracelet. Very cool mod but the watch is big for me. If I can find an SKX013. I would want a low profile, thin coin edge bezel, w/a ceramic bezel insert just like the second SKX013 you featured. If there was a Murphy smooth bezel for the SKX013 even better. I like the Kanji day date mod. Also I would like the lollipop seconds hand from the SKX009 on the SKX013. I don't care much for the hacking or movement swap if it's more expensive. The only issue I have with the SKX line is the double coin edge bezel. It's too big and give the watch an unneeded think profile. Can you suggest or mod my suggestion upon request and purchase?

    Currently in the process of modding my 013, I went with the top hat sapphire from crystal times. But sadly because of that I cant use ceramic bezels as they’re harder to trim down to the size I need to clear the crystal.
    One note that should be added is that if owners wish to do a dial change (especially ones with applied indices) they need to purchase a sterile chapter ring for the 013 with a wider inner diameter to clear the dial. The 013 has a smaller chapter ring than the 007.

    • @LumeShot
      @LumeShot  Před 5 lety +1

      The top hat does make it a little harder to fit some inserts but I found no problems fitting a top hat on a regular sized SKX with a ceramic bezel insert. I agree with the dial; I wish there were more chapter ring options available for the SKX013.

    • @iandocena4208

      @@iandocena4208 This is really funny because I ordered the same and everything is in the mail now lol. I even ordered some cheap calipers so I can get the diameter of the insert right when I sand it down (with 400 grit). I ordered that chapter ring from lucius atelier also.

    • @iandocena4208
      @iandocena4208 Před 5 lety

      The Remnant 1611 Nice! there’s only a few options for us 013 modders to go with haha. The instructions said it should only take about 5 minutes for sanding but I usually take about 15-20 just being really cautious. My advise is to make sure the insert can freely rotate around the base of the crystal before you install it. If you install the insert on the bezel first for sanding ease, just put it on the watch upside down to check! (With the crystal installed already of course)
      My end internal diameter came to about 27.975mm for a perfect fitment around the tophat crystal. Best of luck with your mod!
