The thing about Pat is, yes he's a goof ball and has a ton of fun, but he also genuinely asks more compelling than most journalist. He always asks the things I actually wanna know. Also AJ is the best "straight man" in the history of comedy
Except when Dana White is a guest... then it becomes a verbal BJ
.... meh... god forbid he talks about what is going on with Vince McMahon right now... easy on the "compelling" term... he asks good questions, but lets not label him a hard-hitting journalist that presses his guests. That would be false.
@@derrektrematore5631 what do u want him to ask about Vince McMahon when talking about nfl cap tf
@@derrektrematore5631 Hahah fully agree with you. I would NOT consider him a hard hitting journalist. But as for casual conversations and asking interesting questions about less severe topics, I do think he is good.
I'll fire a question back at you bud... when your girl looks at you, does it seem like an Antiques Roadshow appraiser looking at a bowling pin that was once apart of Earl Anthony's 7th 300 game?
Ever since Pat heard the term “cash over cap” he fell in love with it lol.
Call my man Magic Mike the way he be manipulating the cap
Magic mikes a stripper my guy
If they win
@@DH-yd6gs They've already won a ring recently using this system 😂😂
Ayo??????
Lame
Convo with "Big Brain Mike" was Emmy worthy. Brilliant work boys.
Lol, he was basically saying no,no,no. Tom doesn't do our ENTIRE recruiting for us. We still do our job. LMFAO 🤣.
Brady's cap hit of 12 million might play a role. Rodgers cap hit is 28 million, Mahomes 35. They're now without star recievers Tyreek Hill and Devonte Adams. The difference Brady's pay cuts make doesn't get enough attention.
even Big Ben’s cap hit rarely hit above 15m from rookie year til 2016. as a result they had two hall game caliber wide receivers during that period in Antonio Brown and Hines Ward among many other valuable weapons. Gotta pay the quarterback but also have to make it flexible so a team doesn’t have to bank on constantly hitting in the draft for offensive weapons on rookie deals
@@tylerperry2195 It's the same with people boohooing over Wilson's terrible o line in Seattle, when he signed a contract hogging 14 percent of Seattle's cap, there's less financial flexibility to surround him with talent. I don't blame him, but don't cry about the front office not doing enough. They can't.
Hard to win when one person takes up close to 15% of the teams salary cap.
He’s done that his entire career with the Patriots.. It’s a massive part of why they were so successful for so many years
well his wife is a billionaire so it makes sense
@9:30 I really wanted him to say "well actually, my contract mandates 4 hours of film study a week."
Pat with anotha one. Game changing interview one after another watching a legend.
Really it is up to owners want to actually pay. So if they have a real chance to compete, they take the cash & do it. The might hold onto cash for future deal vs. just spending for sake of spending
This is so educational! Great idea to bring him on
My Saints have been doing this for a decade. Some are smarter then others!!!
PMS show is the best very informative and a lot of laughs
Respect to the spreadsheet nerds.
I've been a Colts fan since the day they came in with the Mayflower trucks in '84. The best thing about the show is how accessible owners, GMs, and VPs have been to answer questions about the inner workings of teams. They would always have that stigma of not wanting to speak about football operations. Pat you have opened up the conversation and have been able to cross that boundry for your peeps. Great job man.
These aren't hard hitting questions... knock it off
@@derrektrematore5631 they didn't say it was? Team execs being more open on this show is a thing answering questions that they wouldnt even just 5 years ago.
Great interview!
That was fun. Who would have thought that someone could make salary capology entertaining.
Manchester United fans crying listening to this
These types pf interviews are golden
Good point about the rookies. Those are some solid young players on cheap rookie deals.
The way he smiles when saying it’ll catch up makes me feel like it won’t ever catch up
LMAO. Pat sounds so DRUNK at the beginning of this and then I realized I was somehow at 75% speed. I am a doofus - my bad!
😏
Probably won't see this Pat but just wanted to say that I love listening to your shows and have done so for a long time. I think you are really good at bringing out the best in people you interview. I'd like to add that one thing you could improve on in your interviews is not asking so many questions at once like you did at the start of this one.
The legend
Tampa is beautiful 🤩 🌴
Saints GM Mickey Loomis and assistant GM Kai Harley are the godfathers of salary cap mastery.
Yeah thats where the bucs got it from.
How can you beat something that isn't real?
So tired of this story line. You can't beat the salary cap, but you can use its rules to move money forward and bank on the ever expanding salary cap to cover you. But all the dollars have to count against the cap eventually. Cash over cap isn't cheating, it's just accounting. The bill comes due, and if there's a team with very little money pushed forward into future contract years and then the cap does have a big expansion one year those teams will have a huge windfall to snap up top free agents while other teams are still paying off the credit card. It's a win now vs win later move.
Giving up all the trade secrets
Greenberg and Licht are wizards and what they've been able to accomplish year after year is truly remarkable 🫡 Raise the flag 🏴☠️
Mike is one of the best.
Basically, it sounds like you just keep deferring the money down the road, but the deferred money is actually less of a hit bc it's a smaller % of that future year's cap bc the cap generally goes up...
Any madden franchise player could have told you how it’s done Pat.
I only play Madden for the franchise mode and I can't believe the lack of knowledge regarding the salary cap.
Will y’all please do a 1 mill to 2 mill best moment video ?
Makes me wonder what big corporations are doing lol. 🤔
Whatever they want it’s their money and they don’t have a salary cap
Robbing Peter to pay Paul.
It helps when the qb isn't taking half the cap as well.
First you have to attract the players and being in sunny Florida its not really hard. And when the best QB in NFL history Lives near your organization and is your recruiter its even easier. The cap stuff is easy after that.
No state taxes help a bit...
Oh is that all ...just draft well...what a concept
Les Snead is who they really wanted to talk to
nobody EVER talks about the rising ticket prices - what about the fans?
Ticket prices do not rise in order to pay higher player salaries. The teams set their ticket prices based on demand (and how much they want to avoid being seen as price gouging).
Should have asked about the Watson contract
Love to her the spreadsheet guys get a shout out
The NHL is the only major league in the US with a hard cap. The LTIR is the only "loophole", and if it spans multiple years, you're screwed in the offseason during free agency. It's insane how NFL teams can just drop players on multi-million dollar contracts too.
The cheat code is Tom Brady taking $15 to 25 million less then the other great QBs in the league.
the reason why people like big brain arent the ones talking about learning anything from madden when compared to players is because there is no export to csv
EA needs to pay money magic Mike for consultation on NFL finances so Madden franchise players can have fun
The idea of a salary cap,is,to keep the league competitive so people will watch. If one team dominates and wins all the time, how will nfl keep an audience if everyone knows who will win because of money?
Which is basically why it's almost always the same winning schools in college all the time.
2x covid survivor here.... 1st id like to say great show today boys. Keep it moving. Secondly, as a bucs fan im glad we have Mr. Big 🧠.
You want a covid combat patch ?
@@CampingINurMOM yes plz 🙏

Big Brain Berg is better
Basically the super, rich owners are bending the rules because they can, and telling everyone else to get over it
More risk more reward. They taking more risks and reaping the benefits
Where was "Big Brain Mike", before Tom Brady got there? 🤔
It's hilarious watching these coaches and GMs being talked about like they are Savoirs when in reality we all know it's the QB who saves these franchises
The glazers take money from one sport and put it into another. Seems wrong to me
Well, they are beating the cap until they turn into the Saints lol
You mean, a team with a loaded roster on both sides of the ball that's projected by Vegas to have their sixth straight winning season?
Oh, the indignity.
@@eugenesutherland7185 With who at QB? A guy that isnt very good ?
Time to either get rid of the cap or get rid of the loopholes becuase by keeping a loophole that rich owners can take advantage of defeats the purpose of a salary cap. He gave enough hints that now that this has become a normal process to circumvent the salary cap these so-called Gurus are definitely looking at ways to keep kicking it down the road long enough that it will be the next GM's problem after the winning stops. They are paying now and hoping that future salary cap increases cover the eventual cost. People interviewing for coach and GM spots have to now ask how much damage has been done in previous years will be coming my way if they take the job. They all went to the ENRON school of accounting.
It’s time to get rid of the void years element, that’s artificially lowering cap hits, that or use aav for the cap hits applied to the cap
But then again, You couldnt keep AB Happy.
Who can?
The cap is cap
Bucs wasted a 2nd round pick on a third string QB, and are now missing two of their three best offensive lineman lol
Trask is going to surprise you
Can't wait to see how he'll manage his way out of the most negative cap space for next year in the NFL (-163m). Oh wait, he'll do what every manager is starting to do, and just backload the money into ghost years. The CBA needs to patch this loophole, and I'm an Eagles fan. Howie Roseman has been doing this for years. It's the only reason he's still our GM; he'll stay in power to move money around, but keep whiffing on first round picks.
Are you an eagles fan complaining about the eagles??? Wow talk about spoiled. Try being a lions, browns, bears or texans fan
@@donkeydick5481 It's called being objective. Im a Phillies fan, and I think not having a salary cap is stupid; buying a championship is unfair, even though the Phillies are doing it. Sorry I'm not a selfish homer who roots from a glass house. Try being a Flyers' fan. Every team has dogshit streaks. But how bad a team is, is irrelevant. Like you. 7 month old comment lmfao

@@milesb2111 r/whoosh
I was always under the impression that the Dallas Cowboys did this during their Super Bowl runs in the 90s.
Salary cap started in 1994. Cowboys won in 1992, 1993, and 1995. They didn’t have to deal with the salary cap.
There has been one dynasty in the history of sports with a true salary cap. The Patriots from 2000-2019.
Every other dynasty was “Hey, we have more money than you lol. We pay our team $100 million while your team is worth $30 million. Omg we won 3 superbowls with like a 3x more expensive roster than everyone else. Holy Toledo!”
That’s like winning your fantasy football tournament but having like 2x more draft picks than everyone else. You *should* win that.
@@tommunist101992 Dallas was middle of the pack in team salary spending. Troy aikman was their highest paid player at 1.5 million which ranked #22 in the nfl
@@tommunist101993 they were 19th
@@tommunist101995 the cowboys led the nfl at 34million. 5 million more than the last place bengals.
Go Bucs
You don’t get credit for luck. Bucs fan since forever. If we don’t get Brady we are a sub .500 or 9-7 team habitually. Players taking paycuts for a ring isn’t a gm’s genius.
He had to draft well or we wouldn’t ever have gotten Brady. So give that man credit.
It’s not magic. They are spending tomorrow’s money today. Brady isn’t going to be there forever. Once he leaves the teams after him will suffer from a lot of dead cap.
Same thing theyve been saying about LA. Still waiting 🙄
Yeah, but look what happens when teams go all in. The Rams did it twice and they have 2 NFC championships and a Superbowl to show for it. Tampa did it and has a SB to show for it. Saints rolled the dice and lost but I think its better to try at that and fail then not try at all. Its such a huge payoff even if you're gonna be mediocre for a few years later. Not to mention how often are you going to have the GOAT playing for you or a top 3 QB playing for you? If I had a top 3 QB playing for me and I'm the owner I'm saying go all in for as long as he is Elite. Who cares if that money gets kicked down the road.
@@shawnsanders9450 Im not saying their dumb. It makes perfect sense for them to do so. I’d do the same thing. It’s not ideal for every team tho. It be stupid for teams like the Bengals or Chargers to do the same thing because of their qb situation. You wouldn’t want a lul in talent in the middle of their primes. I don’t really think it should be a thing. But since it is you’d be dumb not to go for it with a Brady.
@@1standTunaPodcast Big brain Mike just said they can push it 5 years. Rams have only been doing it for a couple years. Saints have been doing it forever. They are pushing their current player contracts out just so they can afford their player contracts from 5 years ago.
They are just bending the rules and telling everyone else to get over it.
The league is run by owners. The richer you are the more say you have.
cash over cap
Love pat but he always asks 3 thousand questions in one sentence and the interviewer has no idea where to start
Can the NBA or are NBA teams doing the same thing. Players in the NBA are already getting paid too dam much for a no-touch sport.
Uh. They don’t obey the cap rules, and the league allows it because they have protected the mediocre Tom****** since 2001 on and off the field.
Saints are the best at the cap
SUPERBOWL 2023🏴☠
They should make qb pay 50% exempt from cap
Why?
glazers milking that man u money 🙄
Waste millions of dollars to still be bottom in the division. Browns football
Pat is drawing interest to the otherside of football people in main media don't do. It's genuine interest in football not views
Mike "The Football Jew"
This guy acts like he is a math genius:
You are getting a half off discount on the largest contract of everyone's roster. And THEN getting a discount from others who are furthering discounting their worth.
Cash over cap is just kicking the can down the road.
It is fine if you win a super bowel, that is the plan. But don't expect the Rams or Saints to be competitive in 2-3 years, they are dicked.
Both Rams and Saints been competitive for the last 5 years and will be for next few years to come😂
Big assumption that Tom Brady will actually retire
