I have come to terms with the fact that at least half of the hugs and kisses I get from my toddler are an attempt to distract me from his plotting and shenanigans. I'm cool with it though :-)

I would like to teach my children how to wind down. When I was a kid, I remember sleeping but not being rested, because my thoughts raced. I want to teach them how to be still and at peace at the end of the day. I’m not sure how feasible that is with small children though.
There are specific practices you can do with any child in any age that will calm them down.. Bed routine can be a form of meditation with letting them speak whats on therr mind, while lisening to calm music, let them lay flat on there back , facing up and project some stars on your ceiling. Also candle light is really calming and a natural way to calm our eyes and get ready to sleep :).
You could teach them to pray at bedtime. Prayer is our most powerful weapon. Think of the prayer warriors they will be if you start now. Like Glen said though, "consistency is the key" no matter what you choose to do as your routine.

We sing too! I have a bedtime song for each kid and then a special song for my two girls. sometimes they sing along and other times they listen and smile. My songs focus on how much they loved by their family and the great qualities they posses ( my 4yo smile is bright as the sun, my 2yo has a small voice but a lot to say, my 1yo is very proud like the leo he is). I picked easy and familiar tunes as the melody for the songs such as twinkle twinkle little star, jesus loves me and rock a bye baby. My goal was create a happy and comforting memory whenever they would hear the tune no matter how old they would get.
I would put my feet on top of dad's shoes and he would walk and sign just before bed. His way of getting us kids closer to our room. We always remembered the traditions. This is wonderful you are giving these memories to your kids
