I haven’t felt so connected to an internet family like this since I used to watch the shaytards when I was like 12. But with you guys it’s different, with the shaytards I was filling a void in my life because of family problems. Now I’m entering my 20’s and learning things about parenting and just life in general for my future, you guys are more real, less focused on being super funny and entertaining, just really authentic which is something that I think the shaytards lacked and why I ultimately lost interest. You guys are truly something special! I’m so excited for the new baby, no matter if it’s a boy or a girl I’m genuinely so excited for a new member of the family! Bless your family 💕

    3) no eating in the room - dishes n silverware lead to unwanted bugs/pests

I was halfway through talking about the rule that I have the hardest time getting the kids to follow before I realized that when I started typing I was answering your question, and at that point I was in the middle of my ten page essay discussing my children's seeming inability to follow it. Nobody needs that (except maybe the part of me that lives in whatever dimension of frustration it was that had unleashed several minutes of frenzied typing), so I deleted it. But I am here to say that the struggle is real, my friends. The struggle is real. Godspeed.

If you see something that needs to be done, do it (a full trash can, etc.). 4. No shoes past the mud area. Good luck with the rules, and again so happy for you guys.

    -No slamming doors

    -Show respect to others.

I loved this! My kids are basically grown now (21 and 19), but we had family meetings too and this brought back memories. Kids can get you off task so quickly! Our daughter was the great distractor LOL. Our biggest rule was we never fussed in the morning. We never yelled before they left for school because the world is hard enough to navigate and your last thoughts and feelings should be good ones while you were out there. Seems lofty now, but it worked. Because we knew there was a no morning fussing rule clothes were picked out the night before, bedtimes were carried out because sleepy children, who are moving slowly make adults cranky. Things were signed at night and lunches were made the night before. It helped keep the kids in good spirits and us too. Few people believed we pulled it off, but most of the time we succeeded.

This was adorable. In our house:
    1. No phone calls during dinner (the phone was on the wall and my Dad would answer- Embarrasin! Lol). Family discussion/meeting happened at the dinner table.
    2. No TV until after homework was done.
    3. Clean up your toys after playing with them or they will disappear (this includes when friends come over)
    4. Every Saturday clean your room and remove the sheets from your bed for washing.
There were more but those were the early rules.
May I suggest you come up with the best three rules that will help the Chocolate Babies help/contribute to the household. Add more as they mature, and give privileges to the older ones as they get it right. They are largely behavioral now so explanations don't have the impact you are probably expecting. This is where "because I said so" came from all those years ago. When they ask why, then they are ready for the explanation.

Pause...that's good Papa and Mama, to think about the ideas Uriah has. Mama good expressing your thoughts, Papa good saying we will discuss later and get back to the kids with an answer. That was a good moment of acknowledging and validating. I'll give that a gold star...that doesn't always happen. Okay back to the clip.

@ 12:12 see i'm naturally like that too (no rewards for things you should be doing) but that's the same thing god does for us...he rewards us for things we already should do. Idk I feel like it can be spread to kids too bc positive reinforcement can be encouraging in the future for anything but ultimately i'm not a parent. I just know how god treats us tho

One of the house rules I grew up with was to finish the food on your plate...the bad part was that my dad piled on a ton of food on the plate...an adult portion...uggh!

    Growing up was.
    1. No one is allowed in the bedrooms. All doors are shut when we have visitors except the bathroom.
    2. No t.v in the bedroom. No eating.
    3. Lots of chores! LOTS. We would rotate between. We get a free chore pass (meaning no chores) on our birthdays.

Yvette, I agree, you shouldn't be rewarded for things you should be doing like cleaning up after yourself. However, a gold star is more like acknowledgement that you're doing what you should be doing. When you're doing what you should be, you can enjoy privileges like the cell phone (this is my case, maybe watch tv for your case). A reward is more like ice cream. Yes? No?

Hi Daddy Beleaf, you and Mrs are doing a great job of the hardest job on earth, parenting. It’s great you’re teaching your children of the rule 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👌🏾. As a child i had difficulty understanding because no one explain rules or anything, my siblings and I were expected to know. Life was a guessing game😠. Keep teaching and being a great role model to your beautiful babies 👌🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾

The first rule that I thought of was "No eating in the rooms". 🤣 I guess all of the other ones were not as important since we needed to be reminded of this one so much.

I grew up in a house of 7 brothers. we all had chores and rules. setting, and clearing the tables, cooking dinners. cleaning the house, plus going to school, No allowance, so we had to find part time jobs after school if we wanted some spending money. I had paper route with 2 of my other brothers.

"This is a marital discussion that we need to discuss..." This is awesome. I am always in awe of couples who are married with children and keep the children aware that you all are on each other's team first.
"... but I understand that you want a golden star. I'm listening to you. You a heard." Wow! I love how clearly and intentionally you communicated that you value Uriah's input. That kind of affirmation, especially from a dad helps kids want to keep participating in family life. It's not always going to go Uriah's way, but he's going to see that his Dad consistently takes time to understand and value his thoughts. That was beautiful.
I'm praying for your family and your on-going rule discussion. May God bless your marriage, your parenting, and continue to be center of it all-- making the way you merge the two holy and seamless.

Our number one rule in our house is Andersens never quit! We also remind our kids to use kind hands, kind words, kind actions. We don’t use shut up or hate. We pray often. We love God and love people. ❤️
