    Kai's destruction, explained:
The more Chi you give willingly, the more Chi you have.
The more Chi you take forcibly, the less Chi you have.
Po was being given Chi willingly by an entire village of people. Making him infinitely full of Chi. Then he gave it all to Kai, willingly, becoming an endless Chi font for Kai to take from that would never run dry.
Kai, at the same time, was forcibly taking Po's Chi, even while it was being given to him. He was forcibly taking infinite Chi. Which caused him... to have none.
And nothing can exist without Chi.
So Kai became nothing. He ceased to exist.

He seemingly goes for that cliche grandiose speech and then and then just breaks down into laughter and messes around with his giant dragon.
The training montage is also genius for this reason, with Po weaponising all the bizarre quirks and eccentricities of the goofy pandas, while the ever serious Tigress is reduced to the background comic relief just from how bewildered and lost she looks throughout it all.

Probably my favorite thing about this entire trilogy is how comprehensive it is. Tai Lung represents the power of the body. Lord Shen represents the power of the mind. And Kai represents the power of the spirit. Tai Lung comes first because training the body is the easiest. Kai is last because the spirit is abstract, even more so than the mind, and so is the final level for Po. At the end of the trilogy, he’s completed a full character arc.

Kai threatens Oogway by showing off all the warriors he's stolen the life/chi, and that he's next, and Oogway's reaction is seemingly of pure concern for HIM rather than himself. Such an excellent moment of characterization.

The 3 movies are actually representative of "body" "mind" and "spirit" respectively, the three pillars of Kung Fu. In each movie Po learns one.
E.g, in the first movie (body) he learns Kung Fu and realises you have to be yourself.
In the second movie (mind) he came to terms with his past and learned to let go of hate
And in the third movie (spirit) he learns chi and visits the spirit world
I just think it's very cool that the writers thought about that, especially since its not shoved in your face and not something the average viewer would pick up on.

In the first film - Kung Fu is really only the province of the few. We only see the main cast do it, and Po is repeatedly told that he can't do it. There's a clear distinction between can's and can't's.
The last scene of this film is massively different. Everyone is doing Kung Fu. It's not a display, it's become a group celebration. Anyone - panda or not - can be the best they can be. Kung Fu is open to anyone now.

And only now, as an old man, do I realize I can only change myself. But, if I had changed myself, I could've changed my friends, changed my neighborhood, changed my city, changed my state, changed my country, changed my continent, and ultimately, I would've changed the world."
Po didn't change, per se, but he became more confident in who he is and what he can do. He bettered himself. In doing so, he bettered those around him, and those around those who he bettered, all the way up. He bettered the world.

Kai's Theme is a cover of I'm So Sorry by Imagine Dragons, which is incredibly poetic since the lyrics of the song are sort of reflecting the overarching lesson of this movie, which is about giving. Rather, in the song's case, how the singer is sorry he can't give more than he is.
The story is also about giving.
Po needs to GIVE what he learned and his experience to others by being a teacher, as well as GIVE others the skills they need to realize their potential.
Li Shan needs to learn to GIVE his son independence, respect, AND truth, despite just getting him back.
Mr. Ping needs to learn to GIVE Li Shan the chance to be a good father, so they can both GIVE more to Po.
Kai is THE ONLY ONE taking in this film. So this song reflects EXACTLY what he needs to do to redeem himself. Meanwhile he is doing the exact opposite. In fact, while he is being introduced to each of the characters, the song plays, as if it is a warning to Kai. "you still have a chance to give back what you have taken! it isn't too late!" But every time, as he is taking chi, the music changes to something sad, and the notes go deeper, as if part of himself is being suppressed deeper inside of him, and replaced by something else.

Beyond the whole sticking it to "Family Values" Christians that shriek at the notion of two parents being the same gender regardless of context, it's a small moment that shows by Ping was wrong to be hesitant about Po's biological dad being in his life. Because in the end, family isn't about whose blood you share, it's about who loves you, cares about you, and wants to be in your life.
To me, Po saying "Dads!" is more than just a situational gag related to the two teaming up, it's Po proving Ping's fears, that Po would see him differently now that his biological father is back in the picture, wrong. That even if his "real" dad is back, that doesn't change who Ping is to Po.

Truly. Snow leopards are very offensive in combat, impossible to evade with a head on attack. They have claws and a muscular body to leap forward and strike opponents with precision, exactly what Tai Lung does. Peacocks are much more defensive, using their tails to intimidate enemies and using talons to kick, deflect and absorb impact, like Shen. Bulls are hard to evade defense or offense, like Kai. It's hard to overcome the sheer power of a charging bull head on and even with an ambush, their hooves, weight, horns and surprising agility for their size sells it.

So they actually *did* know that this movie was going to happen when they wrote the first film. Apparently when they came up with this franchise, they wrote it to be somewhere around six films long. I don't know how much of that is true between the Legends of Awesomeness series and the Paws of Destiny series (both of which seem to be somewhat canon, since PoD references events from LoA in the first season, but LoA is clearly set between KFP 2 and 3), but I'm pretty sure the mainline series films were definitely planned to be that way, and that's why their writing holds up so well. between the films. They went in with a plan, and executed it flawlessly.

Actually, DreamWorks did something similar with "How to Train Your Dragon". the first between-movie TV series, Riders/Defenders of Berk, has some plot points and characters (like Heather, Johann, Dagger, etc.) who carry over and have their stories expanded in the Netflix series, Race to The Edge, which came out after the second film.
Maybe DreamWorks just puts that much attention to detail in their movies?

One thing I kinda appreciate about the film series is that, despite them practically making it a running gag that Po surpasses everyone in an absurdly quick fashion, it never really comes off like that. Po never really comes off as someone who's 'better' than his peers in everything that makes them talented, and I think it's because well, not only does he remain an adorably clumsy fanboy, but the way Po learns is through the influence of everyone around him. Po learns quick because he is humble and willing to learn and take notes from just about anybody and anything around him, he is not inherently talented. Sure pandas are chi masters in the blood, but it still takes experience and all his friends' contributions to make him one. Guys like Shifu and Tigress meanwhile are immensely talented in their field, but spent years hindered by extreme flaws or stubborn self esteem issues, the belief there was only one convoluted way to become a master, one 'secret ingredient'. When Po returned the favour and enlightened them, they proved as fast learners as him.
