I remember operating the Beastie solo when it was raining so no one in the park. Got in and took a ride. Glad no one found out. Had to hop out of the train to bring it back into the station once it returned to the station

Honestly Motocoaster would be cool if it was like a big F1 track with no bumps and being more comfortable and better theming it would be sick if it went really fast for the entire ride, not just the start of it

The transitions on orphan rocker would have been GREAT with when you consider the ROCKING trains. YOU aren't going that sideways, YOU are being rocked.

    • @MaloneysCoasters
      @MaloneysCoasters  Před měsícem

It’s not about the rocking, it’s about the sudden jolts because of how the track is profiled. It was built by an amateur who knew nothing about coasters and it shows

@@manbearpig900 If you just Google Orphan Rocker, you'll see plenty of photos of the forest section that look downright dangerous as well. Orphan Rocker was essentially a backyard coaster built by a man with a lot of ambition, who bit off more than he could chew. It never opened to the public for good reason, no matter how much there might have been other financial motivations for leaving it abandoned, the owners knew it was dangerous. If it didn't hurt or kill someone by some miracle, it would have been a nightmare to insure.

I rode Turbo Mountain countless times in the 90s when I used to go to Adventure World at least once a year. It was the first coaster I ever rode and I was not ready for the laterals on that first helix. My friend and I bashed heads hard. After that I knew to brace myself and it was fine from then on. I STILL haven't ridden on its replacement, The Abyss.

I got one ride on the Thredbo Alpine Coaster on day 2 (40 minute wait). It’s very smooth, especially compared to the charming janky bobsled. The helixes (especially the first and third) and various turns give some decent to good lateral Gs, and there is a triple down and one or two other dips that give a slight bit of airtime, but nothing like DC Rivals. The magnetic brakes that limit the ride to 40km/h do come as a little disappointing after some of the larger drops and it is a bit intimidating on the ski slope, but it’s a very nice ride, and a nice payoff after following its construction for months. But if you want a completely wild downhill ride, I’d recommend the bobsled at Corin Forest, which still has the classic jank as well as plenty of forceful fast-paced turns.
On the rest, I actually enjoyed the laterals in the back row of Road Runner and my 8 year old self still has a positive memory of Escape From Madagascar.

I do remember seeing the Dragoncoaster at the shopping centre in Brisbane in up there from Victoria in 1988. It wasn't actually running at the time, but we went up for a closer look and found that it was actually open. Just that there were no riders waiting. My mum thought it would be a sedate kids ride, so we got tickets to go on it. Let's just say it went quite a bit faster than we were all expecting. A bit of a thrill looking down to ground level as the cars tilted into the curves too. No doubt it being indoors and several floors up made it appear faster than it actually was, but it was great fun. Such that we all went for a second ride. Glad we did now as it had gone the next time I got up that way.

Turbo Mountain was forceful but smooth. My only gripe was its harsh brake at the end. Otherwise its one of my most memorable credits (so take that!! 😅)

The first time I rode the mine ride at Dreamworld, it was so rough and janky. It was actually dangerous as most the ride was pitch black and you couldn't prepare for the turns. My girlfriend and I got off and just shock our heads, WTF was that??? Well a few years later we went back and of course had to ride it again, and they had installed flashing lights inside so you could kind of see whats coming up, but it was still very rough. Still great memories....

Im one of those Thunderbolt Dads and yes you are correct, although the first drop into the loops was pretty awesome. The rest of the layout was just boring. At the time, Corkscrew at Sea World was short but exciting the whole ride time.

I can tell you what rail chase was like. Both versions. There was a significant update.
VERSION 1. This one was more based on the game of the same name. It had guns installed for each rider, who would use them in in the second half of the ride.
The ride left the station to a lift hill into a fairly good first drop into some wild mouse elements. It was shrouded in darkness so hard to tell what was going on. You would hit a turn table, which would send you backwards into the "temple" which was a more "indoor" area of the ride hidden from view from the outside. In here, you'd go backwards through a small wild mouse style turns, decorated as a temple, attempting to put out fires that were in the scenery. Shooting your gun at a target near the fire would SUPPOSEDLY put it out however at the end of the backwards section, you'd hit another turn table where a voice would tell you "what a pitty, what a shame, to leave the temple, still a-flame." basically telling you, you'd lost and to try and come back again. Thing is, you could hear this little speech at the end, from the ride line. I never. ONCE. EVER. heard any other dialogue from this voice. And as a kid who would marathon this ride, it began to seem like the game wasn't actually a game but just looked like one.
VERSION 2. They got rid of the guns, gave it more theming in the "outside" are and added a story about an explorer who had gone missing that you were looking for. There were pictures and documents on the wall in the que that you could read to clue you in to the story, and a phone that would ring, and if you picked it up, I think the lost explorer was on the other end and gave you a little speech. Cute stuff.
The ride was mostly the same apart from some bizarre additions. Going up the lift hill were a bunch of TV screens pointed at you that now showed Rocky Horror Style red lipstick lips saying something to you. All synced to the same video of the lips. Weird. Then going down the hill, they added some light rings around the track, which didn't ad or take away much.
The inside area was much the same, but the guns were removed so no target shooting in this version. At the end though, the final turn table would give you the SAME SPEECH about the temple still being on fire and that you didn't put it out. Further leading me to think it was never hooked up to any game mechanic in the first place.
Was fun. But Gimmicky as hell. If it is still running in Indonesia, i very much doubt it is the same experience.

iirc from my experience with Sea Viper, it was one of the first coasters to give me headbangs and made me think that good coasters need to include headbangs. (Akham Asylum isn't actually that bad and could go above Sea Viper imo)
It was kind of the reason why Jet Rescue essentially made me a Coaster Enthusiast today.
Also Fun Fact, Motocoaster was Intamin's first / prototype straddle coaster, their second being Jet Rescue. (Yes, if Motocoaster was not made, Hagrids would have never been made by Intamin but instead Vekoma.)
