  • In 2005, John Chatterton and Richie Kohler were invited to join an expedition to the Titanic.
    I wish I could claim credit for the production of this video, but the all the credit goes to Chatterton and Jed Rauscher. I am still proud to host this video for John Chatterton.
    Note - the original video had a wonderful soundtrack. However, CZcams wouldn't allow the video to be played on mobile devices, so we decided to remove the original music. Now more people can watch the video. Enjoy...

    All videos do not require horrible music as accompaniment. Sometimes silence speaks volumes.

    Some of the clearest video of the Titanic that I've ever seen--very neat considering it was shot at the dawn of the HD era.
    Only downside is the music. Not just the type of music, but any music ruins these types of videos.

    the last bits of the titanic will be the anchors, anchor chains and propellers as they are cast of solid metal and will take centuries to completely disappear. It's quite amazing the forecastle hasn't collapsed under the weight of 65 ton the anchor in the center.

    its unreal how much the rusticals have grown fast in the past 15 years . People think that its becasue of human presence that the deterioration has speed up but obviously they know nothing about how a degrading process work on metals . it takes decades for sea water to chew thru the paint and they used aquatic paints like today back then . When they dismentales the Olympic she did even have a trace of rust on her hall only lagues and she had spent over 20 years on the sea .
    The way that rust baterias work is that when they finally get an opening thru the paint they start the rust process on the metal but you dont see rusticles growing fast . it take years to make a rusticle at th start . it when the rust is gone deep into the metal that rusticles start to pick up the paste and the more rusticles you ahve the faster they will chew thru the metal adn the faster they will grow.

    • @twstf8905
      @twstf8905 Před 4 lety +2

      The Titanic didn't have Anti-fouling paint above the water line.
      The rusticles are FAR more out-of-control in those areas. And, there have been Russian, Ukrainian, Danish and Norwegian tours taking people down in submersibles to the wreck since the early 90's, landing on increasingly fragile sections, adding to the destruction and speed of deterioration on an INDUSTRIAL scale, even littering the surrounding sea bed with every kind of garbage used as a ballast that you can think of, from massive chains to just straight up pieces of useless steel and iron.
      It's CRIMINAL what some completely unregulated companies have been doing in their efforts to turn a profit, at the expense of the vessel's longevity in an already hostile environment.
      Comparing the Titanic to the Olympic is also ridiculous because they are in NO WAY exposed to the same contexts. The Titanic sits at a depth of 12,500 feet (3.8 km; 2.37 mi) below the surface, while the Olympic was continuously maintained over its seaworthy life, until her retirement in 1935. (On my birthday lol April 5th. apparently. 😇👍)
      To say that humans haven't contributed to the Titanic's degradation just demonstrates your SHEER lack of understanding of the reality of the situation.

    • @twstf8905
      @twstf8905 Před 4 lety +5

      The Red is the Anti-fouling paint, still working to this day, testifying to its effectiveness.
      The reason you ca still see it, and there's a distinctive absence of rusticles in that area, is because that's precisely what it was made to do, being applied to most seagoing vessels below the water line, and most cargo and container ships are coated completely because of their inability to dry dock.
      Most ports around the world won't allow vessels to clean barnacles from their hulls because of the potential risk of non-native organisms being introduced into their areas, so vessels larger than a certain size have been required to use Anti-fouling paint at and below the water line.
      (The red color is so prevalent because of nautical tradition.)
      Anti-fouling (or "Biofouling,) paint is in a specialized category of coatings applied as the outer (outboard) layer to the hull of a ship or boat, to slow the growth and/or facilitate detachment of subaquatic organisms that attach to the hull and can affect a vessel's performance and durability.
      Anti-fouling paints are often applied as one component of multi-layer coating systems which may have other functions in addition to their Anti-fouling properties, such as acting as a barrier against corrosion on metal hulls that will degrade and weaken the metal, or improving the flow of water past the hull of a fishing vessel or high-performance racing Yachts.

      @baileyfox2546 Před 2 lety

      Well for one you aren't allowed to disturb the wreck in anyway, and after all the time on the seafloor I very much dought the name would be readable anyway, all the evidence for conspiracy nuts who think this is Olympic are wrong, if you bothered to look at the evidence there's plenty proving this is the titanic.

God Bless, and hey man, you be careful out there diving these dangerous places like the Doria, we want you around to continue to add to your video collection so we can watch all this interesting footage! "Mr. Chatterton" is the underwater archaeologist/explorer/salvager lol he's actually quite famous not only for his discoveries but for his help in documenting most of the world's most recent long lost shipwrecks, from being part of the team that initially located the Titanic after 75 years and her sister ship the Olympic, and the Lusitania, etc. etc. etc.
      Whether it actually was him who uploaded this video to CZcams or not, that's a separate matter, but he is definitely the person responsible for gathering this footage, along with being part of the team that found the Titanic after so many years at the bottom of the North Atlantic, amongst many other career achievements.

      They're in a submarine at 12,000+ ft. They're not scuba-diving and feeling the pressure on their bodies. They're sealed inside the diving sphere of a minisub. The strength of the diving compartment/sphere (made out of a titanium alloy) of the minisub keeps all the pressure out. It may be 6000psi outside the minisub but it's still 1 atmosphere (14.7 psi) inside the minisub. Their bodies are not outside dealing with 6000psi+ of pressure. The pressure of the water keeps the hatch down on the diving sphere. They can still make an emergency escape -- ditch the rest of sub except the sphere and its hatch but the hatch will not come off until the break the surface at sea level.
      When you're in sub, decompression/bends isn't the issue.
      The problem is if the hull of the sub fails at that depth. You'll be dead literally within a millisecond. The air inside a sub would get heated up so quickly it would flash-fry you like being at ground zero of a nuclear bomb and there would be nothing left of you to bring up. There's no time to pressure-compensate with an implosion so you're vaporized, you're not "squished" by the pressure.
      Contrary to popular belief, the bodies of victims that settled on the bottom in 1912 after they were likely blow out of the hull wreck (lower part of the stern most likely), were not reduced to jelly. There was probably still enough time for them to pressure-compensate and there were human remains on-site until maybe the late 1930s/early 1940s but the bodies are long gone -- no flesh or bone is there. They were consumed by the life and chemistry down there.
