She’s absolutely my favorite tv mom ever, she was hilarious, understanding, lovely and helpful, she didn’t look like one of those fake tv mothers, she looked like a real mother in the real world and I think that’s what makes her special. The way she played her role was stunning!

I didn’t really pay much attention to her at first, focused on the kids, but in the episode where Donna kept beating Eric at HORSE, and Red was “fixing” her refrigerator, so she took a sledgehammer to the garage door opener, then told him to never mind the refrigerator, there was something wrong with the garage door opener. LOL, that was the moment I realized she was the funniest one on the show 😁🤣 Loved her ever since 😊

I love that she saw Laurie for who she really was and wasn’t oblivious like Red.
Red wasn't obvious to her, he was an enabler. One of his biggest running jokes was that the worse you treated Eric, the more he liked you. When was he nice to Kelso? When Kelso was openly scamming and abusing Eric. When was he nice to Donna? When she was being abusive and vindictive to Eric. Why did he like Hyde so much? Because Hyde's friendship with Eric was almost cartoonishly one-sided, and Hyde mistreated Eric like it was part of his religion. And he didn't even hide that a major factor in why he liked Jackie so much was that she was meaner to Eric than the rest of them combined. So on, so forth... You could be a serial killer, Red would help you hide the bodies if you were abusive to Eric.
That's part of why Red's turn on her was so out of character- He always knew, he just made excuses about it, or intimidated everyone else into not saying a word. She didn't do anything new, or even take what she had always been doing to a new level, and she was just as mean and ugly to Eric around it, so why the paradigm shift?
akiameko1984 dude, that isn't really a running joke. In fact, he defended his son a lot, but did also let the Eric's friends mess with him because that's how teenagers are. And he's harsh with Eric, because he grew up in the 40s and 50s, and that was a common way to treat your sons to "toughen" them up. It's toxic, yes, but he was also called out for it by Kitty. Which is why it worked. Kitty let him be hard to Eric and stepped in when it was too much.
And to say that Eric's friendships was abusive it stupid. Even nowadays, best friends tease the shit outta each other.
And Donna did take advantage of him, but he did it to her too.
Mothers always know their daughters.
But it was said with love too. Tough love and laurie needed it Red was to easygoing with her.
Laurie the actress went downhill really fast to her drug filled grave, she was a train wreck and her co stars watched helplessly not surprised when heard she died so young,meth is the worst.

Eric's friends didn't only like hanging out in his basement just because it was a nice basement. His house felt more "at home" and "welcoming". Red may be a hard ass but means well. And Kitty was more of a mother to everyone in the group. Plus, there's always food at his house

That 70's Show was good for ratings, but not taken very seriously by critics because I think it was one of the last overtly "traditionalist" type sitcoms the network had

Unlike so many other TV moms, she wasn't basically the equivalent of a prop, she had actual character. Other moms basically are jsut there to serve the other characters, but Kitty was as much a part of the show as anyone else. She's my favorite.

And hyde was the son she deserved. Despite being doted on by his mom, Eric never really did a lot of things to appreciate her. It mattered to him more when his dad showed just a tiny bit of affection towards him.

I loved this show. Every character was fleshed out, had personality and the whole group just worked well together (except Randy, he was unnecessary). You can even see that they clearly had fun with the show. Truly a masterpiece.
This show wouldn't have been nearly as great if different actors were casted to play Kitty and Red. L I T E R A L L Y no one can pull off the chemistry they have along with the wicked sick deliveries of their lines, mostly in Kitty's case.

Debra Jo Rupp is THE most underrated American TV comedienne. I've never seen her being anything less than brilliant.
This is the best family comedy ever in my opinion. It is real life like we lived in the 70s-which I did. We had the basement with old furniture to hang out in, friends dropping by-always at my mom and dad's house. My mom was kinda an early Kitty Forman. I tape this show a lot.

Kitty was such a well-written, well rounded character who was intelligent with a lot of depth and warmth and kindness, but who also didn't put up with any crap. Plus she was hysterical. One of my favorite episodes is when Eric shadows her at the hospital and realizes how hard her job is as a nurse and he appreciates her a lot more.
