That '70s Show: Cast Breaking Character (All Seasons)

- Hello Wisconsin! đ
I couldn't believe there wasn't any compilation of the cast breaking character so after many hours and many many circles... here it is!
Disclaimer: YES, I know some laughs are cleary scripted. However, that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't laughing for real (besides, it was a bit hard to tell).
Laura Prepon and Mila Kunis are breaking in almost every episode so I didn't include all of them.
Enjoy & have a good day. I SAID GOOD DAY! đđš

itâs the way that them breaking character works so well that i never knew that it was them breaking character. itâs too good.
I actually think a handful of these are scripted moments
What theyre calling breaking character is just well acted scenes of when ppl would actually laugh in the given situation in real life.
Iâm your 1k like đł
Really? Itâs obvious when they break character
It's really obvious be fucking for real
Their breaking character seems so natural it makes the show more realistic
I always said this. The fact that they are constantly laughing at each other is so real

It really does. You donât think of it but itâs actually kinda weird that funny things happen in other sitcoms and characters are telling jokes every 15 seconds and yet nobody laughs. The characters in That 70âs Show feel more real because those characters would react with laughter in a lot of those situations
@@colten53 yes! In real life if you were hanging with your friends and one of them does something funny or weird, you would definitely look at one of your friends and laugh lol just about every episode they leave in moments where a actor is "breaking character" but all it does is make it feel more real. Its genuine laughter. I think its just another big reason the show was a hit. By far the best chemistry a sitcom cast has ever had.
Well, a lot of these were actually bloopers
Love how they always break character yet it always works
Definitely one of my favorite things of the show
Yea cause they're a bunch of giggling stoners so it makes sense they'd smile and chuckle at everything.đ
Like a funny SNL lol
@@kobybarnes3035 It's NOT just that reason. A D.A.R.E. member here? LOL. Remember JUST SAY.......n.....OKAY! đ đ đ đ đ€Ł đ đ
Seriously though all of these actors have such a great time with each other and it truly shows. Not many shows had this type of experience, or a great working environment/relationship. When the characters on screen are having a great time it helps or makes the scene that much funnier. But yes the "circle" was funny, but honestly NOT always my favorite scenes.
@@EdsterIII damn sounds like you need a joint.
Mila breaks character so much đ
Oh yeah!! There's an interview where David Trainer (the director) asks Mila "Mila do you laugh during the scenes?" and she jokingly says "No David, I'm a professional" lmao
To be fair she was only 15 when the show started so she wasn't very mature yet đ€Ł
And it's mostly because of Ashton Kutcher he make her laugh how cute was that and now there married and has Kids
It honestly makes Jackie feel a lot less uptight. That she can feel comfy around the gang

Ashtons ability to stay in character after bashing his shins off the table is incredible
or vault jumping over the couch to (try to) catch that fudgesicle
Ik that made me flinch đ I've done that before and it hurts
Broke character into a rapist
@@penguin44ca awe, snowflake
@@penguin44ca That would be Danny (Hyde) not Ashton (Kelso)
The chemistry of this whole cast is crazy good.
That's what has me worried about that 90s show, I'm scared the relationships are going to feel forced, hopefully it turns out well
@@bonelessbaby6908 i understand that. I think what a lot of people are going to do is set their expectations way too high from the jump. These are very young actors that will probably need a season or 2 to gel. If people are willing to be patient with that then it has a chance.
Yep, and that chemistry was there right from episode one.
@@charleshamilton635 Iâm currently on my first viewing of the show and as a whole and I love it so far. The casting was spot on and I think when I finish the show Iâll give That â90s Show a chance. The OG cast was lightning in a bottle!
@@nickbarrera This is your first time watching That '70s Show? Holy crap I'm jealous. Just a word of advice, this isn't one of those shows where you should throw it on for background noise and not pay attention to it. Watch the whole show, don't fall asleep during episodes. There isn't a single episode where you'll say "Wow, I could've guessed that would happen," or "Wow, I feel like I just watched 30 minutes of time filler." And if you're a smoker, keep your pipe nearby. Blazing with the crew is required.
I haven't seen That '90s Show yet. I'll admit I'm very nervous that they're going to mess up the writing, but to be honest? I just want to catch up with the gang and see how they're all doing.
Kurtwood Smith breaking about being a cat murderer and laughing and then say but try to say with a straight face knowing he broke is pure improvisational genius.
That was the only one that I wondered, "Is that in the show that way?" B/c that's gold.
A LOT of these are them just acting tho'.
@@keithpl5438 It is indeed in the show that way.
I love that they could get away with keeping it in almost every time because it's a group of kids that get stoned in a basement, they're going to have the giggles sometimes. it'd be weird if they didn't haha. thx for compiling !
Ur welcome!!
Wow really Ms Laura that's just a little creepy & sneaky.
I think the basement scenes were too hard to keep refilming so they had to keep in whatever seemed natural.
Oh my God. That makes so much senseđ It's like the show is such a fever dream because they are all high all the time and the all the "breakin characters" and "bloopers" confirmed that. So in the bloopers and mistakes, the writers used them like they were actually acting, like it was part of the show? Man, this show was incredibly well-written lol.
4:06 No one else could have played the Laurie Forman character like Lisa Robin Kelly. She was perfect.
Right? And Hydeâs reaction seemed genuine there
Really sad that she couldn't tame her demons and they eventually took her life. But I can see where the drinking and drugs could help her cope with her reality. If I woke up one day after miscarrying thinking "All I'm known for is being the slutty sister of Eric Forman," I'd probably drink away the pain too.
true. rip.
Countless actresses could. Countless. Stop trying to sound smart.
@@longtallshorty5791You know, thereâs no reason to an asshole.
I think 5:44 might be my favorite. Kurtwood Smith recovers so well and plays it off like it was scripted.
It was scripted, Danny Masterson is the one breaking character
@@thedylannorwood I think they were both breaking character a little
@@VolumousSyrup Red was supposed to laugh in that scene
@@andrewrchooven1996 proof?
@@kittenperson6289 it's obvious. He even says say it with a straight face. He's laughing because he hates cats. It is 100% in character
Fun fact, all the food that Kitty was pretending to make was actual food and after the scenes actors and directors actually ate it.
Stupid fact.
@@jouflow stupid reply
Wow. Food is real. So cool man.
The internet is so dumb with itâs useless ass information.
Idk why everyone is so bitter in these comments. Stage food definitely usually is not real, or if it is, itâs only a slice of pie thatâs being eaten in scene or the bite itself, because the food could go bad during filming and constantly remaking it would be expensive and time consuming and get in the way of recording. Them always using real food and even having Kitty cook the food in set during recording is a really cool fact if it is true. I donât know any other show where thatâs been done. It could be because they didnât cut as much during filming because they kept many of the bloopers in. Cool đ
@@assrammington7961urn your device off and go outside then. Weird youâd walk into a movie theater and complain about movies lol
The fact that they left all these in, instead of reshooting them, shows the showâs soul. It wasnât about things being perfect, it was about doing what felt natural.
The way they break character is how real people would be and itâs why this show stands out so well.
I will say this, Mila Kunis ALWAYS seems to be on the edge of losing it. You can see her smile, laugh off to the side. Or she'd put her head into her hands to hide her laughter. Yet you'd still see her giggling. She was and IS such a great actress. It's mind-blowing that she got the Jackie role at age 15? Also the other mind-blowing thing is she again wore a picture of her face on her own t-shirt....lol. That still kills me!
*14
Actually funny story she got the role at 14, but she had to lie about her age to get the role and so she said she was 16 xD
@@wonderland4515 The casting agency asked her "when's your birthday?" and she said "next year", she was 14 at the time!
â@@lucyprevo Oops. So sorry, off by a year. I didn't mean to trigger anyone. Sorry.
This is why that 90âs show isnât as good they willingly hired ppl that would have to lie ab theyâre age if it was back then:(
The best blooper they used was at the strip club. You can clearly see them all break and they kept it in. Debra made that scene!
If you watch the blooper reel on it. They did so many takes, mila couldnât hold it together. I loved that they kept it in.
Thatâs the most funniest ever đ€Ł
She had so many great scenes but that one and the one where she goes nuclear on Red and ends with calling him a dumbass, those are her two crowning moments.
I also love her contagious laughter
Iâve never seen a show where they were able to incorporate the breaking character moments into the scene so seamlessly
It worked so well cause every time they broke it just looked natural. If one of your friends was being an idiot, you'd laugh at them. If they got made fun of, you'd laugh at them. Basically unless they doubled over laughing it all just came across as a the natural reaction to whatever was happening and just made it all feel more genuine.
Kelso slamming into the table for Eric's sister always floors me.
4:58 Kitty breaking at Bob's toupee gets me every time
You can tell immediately Bob wanted to laugh right after he took his toupee off.đđđ
I love how Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis genuinely look like they're in love and falling in love in these scenes
She had her first kiss with him. She was 16. She lied about her age.
I'd hope not considering she was 14 when she started the show and he was already an adult. lol Plus he married Demi Moore before the show ever ended. She claims their romantic feelings formed years later.
@@Wheatbread93 who knows whatâs true, there definitely was something there between them two. I wonder what season the bit at 13:11 was from.
@@Wheatbread93 Ashton literally avoided her like the plague and refused to kiss her till she was older lol
@@jakerazmataz852 lied??? They shouldâve asked her damn parents about her age⊠not her . Infact ask for the birth certificate
This is why the show worked so well! They're actually having fun and all of them had incredible chemistry.
8:03 this was always my favorite scene cause how funny it was. Had no idea they just ad libed it. I actually never realized how much of it was. It's like they said to them "just be kids and have fun." And I now appreciate this show a whole lot more.
wait what, are you saying "Eric, you are a god!" is totally unscripted?
@@rayvega3163 It's not, a lot of these are not actually unscripted
I always noticed that Laura Prepon did this constantly. Seemed to genuinely love working on the show.
I gotta give props to the director, writers, and producers. They left this stuff in, let the actors roll with it, and it felt genuine. Not many shows can pull that off.
Dude, how could they not break character? The writing was hilarious.
14:19 This whole scene is my absolute favorite moment. I don't know if they're laughing at the joke or if they got some inside joke going on but either way - it's hilarious to watch.
I watched an interview with Ashton where he said if he messed up, he went along with it like it was part of the show. He never broke his character, and if they wanted him to do it over, he would refuse. He did such a good job with keeping character, and I'm so glad they let him go with it. He broke character so many times that the couch was always breakin đ€Ł
I love that they broke character so often it made the show feel so much more fun and that they were having fun
21:01 They saved the best for last! This one is by far the funniest blooper that they let slide into the Final Cut.
the scene where donna's mom claims the panties will always be one of my favorite scenes ever from the show
I'm only 5 minutes in and I noticed something. Most of these are of Ashton making Mila break character and I love that so much. It makes me think of the best piece of romantic advice I've ever received. It was from an older coworker of mine who had been married for about 15 years at this point. She said: find you someone that no matter what, they always find a way to make you laugh.
17:47 is always going to be my favorite. You can immediately tell that it was unscripted but fit so damn well with Kelsoâs character.
The chemistry this cast has is too good
I never really thought about the energy Ashton put into playing Kelso so well, cause holy cow
At 2:47 she looked like she had no clue fez was going to do that đđ Lauraâs reaction was priceless
According to IMDB she didn't!
I always thought Wilmer Valderrama had improvised that. In fact, so many times you see Laura Prepone break a little, it's because of something he is doing.
5:44 is the best one đ Red breaking character is always funny laughing at the dead cat
Best character break of all time
Was that an actual break? If so, thatâs even better if so.
I still think of Red as Clarence from RoboCop... Where he was a cop killer đ
dude its so fucking funny LMAO
1:41 Apparently, Kelso hitting the small table isn't even scripted or rehearsed at all. I guess Ashton doesn't want to ruin another take so he decided to go with it.
It worked though lmao
Shit was hilarious đ
@@sierrabro7400 Agree. Gotta give Ashton a hell of credit for that.
You could tell that Lisa Robin surely thought they were gonna yell cut.
Someone in the audience ROARED
I wouldâve lost it too, ainât no way Iâd stay composed if my shins hit the table like that
I do think some of these probably weren't the cast really "breaking character" per se, but the fact that it's hard to tell is definitely part of the charm of the show. There's no doubt in my mind a lot of the scripts included acting directions like "x and y look to each other and laugh." And I think they encouraged their characters to kind of laugh whenever to keep that fun teenagers hanging-out vibe. It worked great for the show. You can absolutely tell the actors were genuinely enjoying themselves
Yes, exactly! It was a bit hard to tell, specially with Laura Prepon since she's laughing in literally every scene lol
Yeah they're also supposed to always be high so... They can basically act as goofy as they want đ
Kitty in the strip club is just one of the funniest moments on the show imo.. Sad to see you cut it short, the longer the scene goes the funnier it gets
This is hands down one of the funniest shows I have ever seen! The cast is incredible and when they break character, it just makes the scene more realistic
It's so adorable that Debra's real laugh sounds like Kitty's laugh.
The most wonderful thing about this show is that everyone is already laughing at each other anyway so when the break, it just works
All of them breaking character all the time and letting them keep it in the show was so brilliant! đ€Ł
I always like that you could see these moments throughout the series. It made it feel just a little bit less Hollywood and more relatable.
It's so cute to see Mila and Ashton relationship evolve. You can tell that they have really liked each other from the beginning.
You mean when she was 14?
@@djp411 I mean while Iâm no advocate for minors dating people who arenât minors, considering in their case it worked out itâs really not a big deal lol, especially now like 19/20 and 14/15 is weird in the sense at that point theyâre quite different age groups but now at 40 and 45 itâs not.
You're not an advocate for ADULTS dating minors, but it's okay if the adult eventually marries the "of age" girl? So then, what is the limit to how young the girl can be? If the guy is 50 and the girl is 39, that's no big deal either, but same guy at 20 and the girl at 9?? Is that okay? I mean as long as in nine years he marries her? Nothing happened between them when they were on the show. They were just co-workers.@@djp411
@@djp411well for starters she lied to everyone that she was 18 to get in the show so not sure why Kutcher would have to run a background check on her before deciding to be her friend. Then you can make all the insinuations you want fine okay, but they didnât start dating until 2012 when Kunis was like 30 years old, so what is the acceptable age when someone is allowed to date? I noticed you donât have any issues with any of the men she dated before Kutcher?
It's so cute how ashton always looks so mischievous

The 17:44 segment and see Kelso's face when Donna push him is priceless đ
Red breaking character when he says "I'm a cat killer" always gets me
What makes this show good is the on-screen chemistry of the actors, you can clearly see that they had a lot of fun making the show and that they were also friends behind the scenes. Also the level of charisma of these young actors and actresses, most of whom donât have much experience yet is even more amazing. And donât even get me started on Red and Kitty
"Oral test on the penal code!"
I think my favorite line in the entire series.
the scenes with Mila and Ashton are too wholesome
Rewatching this just shows why That â90s Show needs to have impeccable cast chemistry or else the show will never work. The original cast had so much on set chemistry and it showed. Topher Grace with his perfect comedic timing and Kutcher with his brazen physical comedy made this cast perfect. The editors leaving in the break in characters made it feel all the more real. You really felt like this WAS the â70s and what a perfect time period to make a comedy like this.
11:16 I KNEW IT
That moment is so real, and it kills me every time. Even better... that was the entire circle scene, just that xD
Ahhh what a good show I didnât even realize they broke character itâs just so natural and flows perfectly I love this show soooo much ughhh I canât
The fact these laughs are real makes this show so great!
I really hope it was Topher breaking character at 7:26 since that would mean Kurtwood ad-libbed the âYou wipe that damn smirk off your faceâ đ
If that was "breaking character" that was perfect timing if I've ever seen it. Eric laughing at Red of all people saying that is exactly what he would do
It mustâve been so much fun to work on this show
08:10 never gets old!
The cast of That '70s Show never failed to crack me up.
I love how Mia is just constantly breaking character and we're okay with it xD specially if she's in a scene with Ashton or Laura
5:57 The way he got back into character, gahdamn so perfect
9:56 I like to imagine Fes was scripted to have a whole conversation with her but just chose to skip over it after falling over. XD
Bob taking off the toupee was gold.
The UFO scene was so good and it works perfectly when they break character when Leo tells his story. Easily one of my favorites.
Kurtwood breaking character is the funniest đ that and Debra laughing at "Bobs," toupee lol
5:46 this is the best one
This is exactly why I love this show so much! It was brilliant to let it be so natural. The characters feel real.
that little tongue play when they were on the couch really shows how they felt lol.
All these wonderful moments are what made this show so genuine.
I was a page on this lot in 98 and I filled in for a bit after my show wrapped. It was the last episode of the first season. I got to meet Kirkwood Smith and Wilmer Valderrama. The 90s were good times
That's awesome!!
4:58 was one of my favorite scenes. Kitty trying hard to hold in her laugh killed me đđđ.
You know how hard it would be for me to hold in my laughter seeing that? Iâd hold it in for a second then cry of laughter
It kinda looks like bobs actor is holding back a smile too lmao
â@@swinaecologist9610 yep he definitely is right after Kitty says "sinuses"
I think this level of candid acting is whatâs missing from that 90a show.
To add my favourite breaking character moment was when fez told donna and Eric he had a intimate sexy dream about about Kalso and Eric goad âwoowwâŠwoowwwâ and Eric is laughing continuously and donna laughs even harder when Fez says his line âyou undressed me first you son of bitch!!!â
iâve never seen a blooper that wasnât used lmaoo i love this show
bruh Mila Kunis was just Ashton's ragdoll đđ and now they're married lol
Hyde breaking character as he says "No its a car... Only you put water in the gas tank instead of gas" will forever be my favorite scene where somebody breaks character on T70S
I donât care what they say Mila and Ashton had chemistry. 13:11
Wait do people say Mila and Ashton donât have chemistry? They freaking got married and had 2 kids..
@@charlottevanlangevelde1114 I think itâs more of they said that during the show there was nothing between them, if Iâm remembering correctly. But they connected later on.
Kucher was 20 when the show started, she was 15. In these clips, he is way too fucking grabby for a little girl and a grown man. They didnt hook up OFFICIALY until years later, but look at him in these early clips. Fucking gross as fuck!
Ashton not even acting in that scene anymore he tried to French kiss her loool
She was 14 years old.
1:40 can we all take a moment to appreciate Ashton Kutcher somehow keeping it together after this lmao
If I had to put my finger on the one thing that 90s show is missing to make it feel EXACTLY like the original itâs this. The characters laughing at themselves and each other made it really feel like a bunch of friends goofing around. While 90s show is all âprofessionalâ but it misses a little something in that itâs too perfect
Imagine all the bloopers they have but haven't released
I WOULD PAY FOR MORE BLOOPERS. I don't know why they only released the ones from season 6. Time to write some emails...
Now you see why Ashton and Mila are together...it's like watching a cool love story in real life â€ïž
I mean she was literally a child in a lot of these clips so that would be illegal but ok
I had no idea they broke character⊠havenât watched it since I was a teen. One of the best shows.

Amazing casting. Best sitcom ever.
you can tell the many moments that they all wanted to bust out laughing, makes the show sm more genuine tbh
I have always had a hard time believing that Mila and Ashton didn't like each other during this show. Their chemsitry together was great and they always looked like they were laughing and having fun.
its crazy how ashton and mila were so close i'm happy for them
Laughter is contagious, it makes sense that a comedy would use it to its advantage... A lot of SNL skits do better for that same reason. It makes a scene so much more organic!
