- Wanted to make a cedar strip canoe so gave it a whirl. 13' solo canoe. Turned out ok but I did make a few mistakes. I think it will suffice for my first canoe. And for those who don't like the music, push the mute button. Thanks for watching.

Well done, I especially like the fact you made the paddle as well. A simple thing comparatively speaking, but to me it speaks to your attention to detail.

I'm just an 18 year old boy with a dream, also who is so inspired by this... It's my dream to craft a nice cedar strip canoe. This is very inspirational and a crucial first step in forming a cedar strip canoe. What an art it is... I can't wait.
Cedar is such a beautiful wood. It can sit there for years, and I mean years, and can still be used as it was new. Good luck to you.

Great job! It looks very sharp. I'm just about to start making my second cedar stripper and to anyone thinking of doing this I say go for it. I'm a geologist, not a builder. I'm the least handyman man around but I did it! It was fun, and like I said, I'm doing another one. Jump into it- it's a blast!

"Building a Strip Canoe" Second Edition written by Gil Gilpatrick. The book comes with full size plans for eight different canoes.

Give yourself plenty time.
take advantage of ready made boat plans.

Yes I'm still interested in the 16'er but maybe in a few years. I haven't weighed it but I would say about 50 lbs or so. It's not too bad for me.

I think it's perfect. The music was apropos. I always wanted a cedar canoe. I would want a flat back. That trolling motor, for fishing, don't ya know. LOL!!! Great build.

Nice job! I built a 14 1/2' solo canoe about 20 yrs. ago. Brought back some memories. A friend already had the forms made so that saved me a lot of extra work. He also basically walked me through the whole building process.. Cool that you made your own paddle too.
