An easy way to make a boat using meranti wood. Boat size: 6.5 meters long 1 meter wide Height 50.5 cm #creating a boat #how to make a boat #how to make a boat from wood #wooden boat #boat #canoe
Many could use your techniques to build simple, capable boats...only we have no ability to obtain these beautiful clear wood planks in ( my) our countries. Anything like this wood will be extremely expensive, before you begin anything!!!
Just curious what the caulk was on the bottom and side plank seams, beautifully done with simple tools, real craftsmanship . When people build stuff like this they also look after it. Also noted that despite been made of solid timber, looks like Philippine mahogany, they still fulled framed it out, that way it can take serious abuse and hard work.

Greetings everyone viewing, with a wooden boat like this one, after building it you can just fibreglass it both in and out, and paint it and trust me that lasting years with proper maintenance, that's how we do it in my country,if one can afford it, because fibreglass is very expensive,i don't know the length of the boat, but if is my boat,i would put a twenty Yamaha outboard motor behind it and make some fish pot and life is a dream, brilliant work,so gave you a like and subscribe, viewing from Dominica the nature island of the Caribbean,
I don't know for sure but I think the traditional boat making wood would have been Teak which is weather and rot resistant, but no longer plentiful. Meranti is plentiful and more sustainable but is not rot or insect resistant and will water log if left in the water. Using wire nails and steel screws means these boats will only last a few years at best. But, they do with what they have available and the traditional skills and craftsmanship is beyond reproach.
Traditional design, held together with modern fixings and shaped with modern labour-saving tools, but still totally authentic and sustainable. Beautiful efficiency and a perfect marriage of skills, knowledge and materials.

Great!!! I watched without stopping ... I would still like to see her on the water ..
I would love to see a follow up of this boat performing in the water to see how it handles and the speed that this motor would provide...great job guys!!
I just love this. It makes me proud to be human. Such a proudly utilitarian craft with basic equipment and I bet he didn’t get his stern passage widened at the local chandlery.
Nice build. I'm in the process of designing a wooden boat for myself. Main difference will be, I will have straight (up and down) sides, hence it will be a bit wider.
A cada parafuso q você colocou há um detalhe especial..cada canto um desenho bem feito parabéns...pode me tirar uma dúvida? Qual madeira usou pra fazer o barco?
I've watched building videos of people fabricating all kinds of wood projects with thousands of dollars of materials and hundreds of thousands of dollars in tools. All for a pretty table, bed cabinet, etc etc. You guys built a fully functioning tool / boat that people will depend on to keep them alive and working and or just daily business. All with maybe 100 dollars in tools and hardware. Looks like native mahogany. You men are absolutely the real deal.
In the USA at least, that amount of that quality hardwood would set you back a pretty penny. Go and price a 1”x12” piece of oak at Lowe’s… and then realize they usually make boats like this from much less common species of iron wood
Fantastic! I, did see a tape measure laying around somewhere but these skilled men do all this from memory! Long, flat bottomed these boats whip along at great speed, these boats are great, their daily driver transport.
Yeah, measures do come in handy but these guys probably max out the size to the available wood for the project. I build simple tables and normally just need to mark with pencil against whatever your doing rather than measuring, measuring seems to add an extra element for me to become inaccurate 😂 These guys know their stuff and if I ever had the money I'd find people like this to build one. I live near Lake Toba so could be fun and useful. Wood is reasonably priced here to say the least too

Very nice and skilled, what wood is used? Really good. Anyway in my opinion and following tradizional handcraft in wood boats in Italy metal screws with water will ruin the wood in medium long period resulting in holes and loosing structure. Better wooden thorns. Thanks.

That wood would cost a fortune in the U.S.

Correct spelling is "malleable", not "mailable", which means to post.

Don't do that it will be unstable no reserve, flared sides best, more than this boat in the vid

raise the position of the engine mount wood... so you don't throw too much wood at the back of the ship which can cause water to enter.
