Today we are melting down cans over a campfire! All you need is some aluminum cans, a steel soup can, tongs and a fire. Melting them down is super easy to do but be careful, they get super hot!
you can also use dried out wood as a mold, as the carbonized layer that forms the instant the molten aluminun hits the wood will act like a natural anti stick coating.
So if I had a wood carving of something, poured it over the wood and after it cools...have a aluminum shape of whatever it was just covering?! Was that too confusing, lol? I tried to make that make sense
I've seen people use steel cupcake/muffin tins to make uniform sized attractive ignots. I also think crushing the cans would allow more in the steel can. Thanks for the video. Going to try this ...
Right on man,I'm definitely goin to set something like Today!! I realized dig that idea. I'm a crafty guy, lol. I'll make a design in the mold, like a cross,or strange music logo?!?! Definitely appreciate the video man!!
Looking sweet, me and a friend melted down some old lead Warhammer models, we poured the led into a concrete mould and it spat out, my friend had splatters all over his glasses, very lucky What's sort of protective measures would you recommend? I wanna get smelting again lol I've seen people use salt as flux with this, have you had any experience with that?
That is very lucky of your friend! To be 100% safe I would not do this at home, but proper PPE like boots, face shield and gloves can help you get back to smelting! And I have not seen the salt flux thing, I will look into it! Happy New Year and safe smelting!
I use a small steel fire poker that fits into the steel cans to "scrape" it off the top of the liquid metal, it's not 100% perfect but it does a good enough job! I'm sure a spoon or something similar would work too just be careful and don't get burnt
Interesting melting aluminum cans. I British Columbia Canada we can get 10 cents for each pop can. Would melting them down and pouring an aluminum bar be worth more money?
I would say it is more worth it to turn in your cans for 10 cents a pop. Aluminum is trading at around 0.003 cents per gram right now and a soda can is right around 15 grams so if you were to pour bars out of them you would be looking at roughly 4.5 cents per can to sell to a scrap yard. But as a hobby and to have a small pile of aluminum bars it is well worth it to me!
Just a standard wood fire, I let a few logs burn all the way to get a bed of hot coals going and add a few fresh logs on top before I start melting cans!

very interesting, I will have to give that a try!
Awesome

top tier video dude
Hey! Thanks for nice tip! Was thinking it is much complex, you made my daY!
Thank you for watching! Please be super careful if you try this, have fun!
Interesting Thks for sharing

STRANGE.....music 💯
@@speedysodope86ss gave me a cpl ideas really, but I bet I'd need a shit ton of cans. I'll be one the ppl walking around collecting cans, lol.
Cool thanks

Concrete holds moisture. Adding molten metal rapidly turns said moisture into steam. Steam causes explosions. Don't use concrete molding
How’d you get your paint off the cans? They’re so clean :)
How would you recommend removing the slag when using a steel can crucible like you did?

bro man han solo in baby form
Why are my cans oxidizing instead of melting

Yes in Norway too, but I use other aluminum items, it has nothing to do with the thickness really, just heat all over the aluminum item
Great video, I’ve been crush cans and keeping them for doing this. Do you know if the crushed cans take longer to melt ?
Thanks putting this video up.
In my experience they do take longer to melt but they still will melt especially if you blow air on the coals! And thank you for watching!
I'm gonna melt my crush cans to I'd imagine a small cheap blow torch will help get em going
What do you do with the Slag?
I keep it in a bucket and when I have enough I plan on remelting it!
@@BBermsWorld okay I wasn't sure if you just take it to the scrap yard
Kewl Tutorial I went out and smelted got a nice bar like yours
Awesome! I'm glad you tried this out!
What was your method in removing the slag?
It’s definitely getting in the way for me and I can’t seem to find a safe efficient way to remove it.
Is this a regular charcoal fire?
Just a standard wood fire, I let a few logs burn all the way to get a bed of hot coals going and add a few fresh logs on top before I start melting cans!
Is coving really a Chinese thing with lovely neighbours smelting aluminium first thing upin the nacht
Gg
We’re not allowed to have a fire in our back yards.
Ok but why do this ? It's a serious question
